My mother trained and worked in the Lancashire cotton industry after the Second World War when the industry in the home county was still a force to be reckoned with. We recently rediscovered some cotton fabrics that she designed, made the silk screens for and printed as part of her student work. Mother is still with us, aged 87, and I wish she'd design some more!

This beautiful Schirnding Bavarian porcelain coffee set has back stamps that were used from 1946 to about 1956.

Geometric trees rise towards a bright yellow sky, where swallows fly beneath a glowing sun. The composition combines abstract shapes and vibrant colours to create a dynamic natural scene.

367 Oxford Street is a new office block by Future Systems architects. It features pre-fabricated bay windows which allow views up and down Oxford Street. This photo shows how the angle of the different planes of glass alternately capture the reflection of the sky or the brick and stone building opposite. The bay windows are particularly effective in capturing these reflections as the façade faces almost due north and consequently receives very little direct sun light.

Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) was a Dutch abstract painter, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He was one of the founders of the journal and art movement De Stijl. Through this publication Mondrian pioneered the term Neoplasticism, an artform using only vertical and horizontal lines with primary colors: "art in the most purest and fundamental form". His abstract primary colored paintings have influenced the Bauhaus and recently come back into trend in interior decor and graphic design.

Kings Canyon is a unique and spectacular collection of landforms located midway between Alice Springs and Uluru (Ayers Rock) in central Australia. Areas of ripple rock like this are fingerprints left from a time some 300 to 400 million years ago when large ephemeral lakes and rivers were a feature of central Australia. The ripple beds were laid down in Mereenie Sandstone that was subsequently covered by other material which has since been worn away. The area photographed here was part of a larger specimen. Each of the ripples is roughly 10-20 mm wide and the area covered by the photograph is about 300mm on the long side.

A red and white digital art geometric pattern I created in Photoshop. I love the red white color contrast, and particularly love this pattern on a Throw Pillow and some of our other products.

This pattern could also be multiplied to make a large bright wall mural.

THE PIER.

" late afternoon is

wet with light

Two fishermen stroll

the brawling surf

A lizard

decorates a sun-boiled stump

Time has settled on the pier’s

dentistry of rotted timber

its bicycles

fishing pots and

Stinking bait

In the idle swell

Sunburnt men

dangle rods

Two mating dragonflies hover

Prehistorical as the

horned monsters

anglers pull in

Reefed up below

Are boats under black canvas

and gulls lashed

to the rocking water

At the curve of the world

Sun is a spitting apocalypse

Stood close to pier’s end

A man scans the horizon

for a morsel of sail

and tosses a hissing butt

in the heartbroken ocean

Listening to the

Slosh and

amen of the sea. "
