A mesmerizing dance of light and texture, where abstract shapes flow like ripples in a liquid mirror. The interplay of tones creates a visual symphony of movement and depth. This was created using one of my digital photos and Filter Forge, and Lightroom. Rotate it around and find the flow that works for you, Wayne.

Ground art comprising two 240ft.-long sections in the center of 'B' Street in downtown San Mateo, California. These newly painted murals, entitled "Cultural Pattern" were designed by Rafael Lopez de San Roman Blanco (1981- ), a professional muralist born in Spain and based in the United States. Blanco has been a studio artist since 2004 and has an extensive exhibition record both nationally and internationally. More recently, he has been transforming his studio background in order to create large-scale public mural paintings in the United States.

'B' Street, once an active downtown thoroughfare, is today a permanent pedestrian mall along between First and Third avenues. Segments of the street were closed temporarily during the 2020-23 pandemic. The San Mateo City Council later moved to permanently close the street to traffic.

The founding entry in a "what am I looking at?" album, to be developed. This is a close-up of the base of a large granite boulder, also shown in another shot. The rock is gradually being eroded by wind and wind-blown gravel. Anyone have an idea what the dark gray inclusions might be?

The abstracting of visual elements in order to recognize their particularity has become automatic, but seeing, combining, and creating them as integrated 'wholes' will remain a lifelong challenge.

Glorious islamic designs and patterns at the Blue Mosque in Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh Province in Afghanistan.

The mosque's attendants, have raised the doves since the mosque was built in the 12th century. Since then, the birds have become one of its famous symbols.

The shrine, located in a flower-filled park in the centre of the city, is believed by some to hold the remains of Imam Ali - the Prophet Muhammad's son-in-law.

Legend has it that the doves are pure white because of the sanctity of the mosque, and that if a dove with a speck of colour flies in and stays, it too will turn white as snow.

About 10,000 white doves are said to roost atop the Blue Mosque's spiral minarets and arches.

The rapidly flowing waters of McCoy Creek reflect the sky above and overhaning tree branches in interesting abstract patterns. Meanwhile, a red leaf caught on a submerged tree limb adds a bright touch of color.

I arrived early for a Doctor's appointment and so I walked around Kensington Market. I loved these bricks and the pattern painted around them.

130 Montgomery Street, a striking example of Art Deco architecture in San Francisco’s Financial District, stands out for its elegant yet understated design. Built in 1930, this 15-story building boasts a slender, vertically emphasized façade, with sharp, geometric lines that exemplify the Art Deco movement. The exterior is adorned with intricate bas-reliefs near the entrance, showcasing motifs typical of the era, such as stylized wings and abstract patterns.

Designed by the architecture firm Miller and Pflueger, known for their work on prominent structures like the Pacific Telephone Building, 130 Montgomery is a gem tucked amidst modern high-rises. Its height is accentuated by vertical piers and recessed windows that create a rhythmic progression upward, drawing the eye toward the sky. The ornate detailing around the entrance is particularly notable, featuring angular patterns and sculpted designs that evoke the machine age while giving a nod to the city's pre-war architectural ambition.

Located in the heart of the Financial District, the building is surrounded by skyscrapers and bustling streets, yet it manages to retain a sense of quiet elegance. For architecture buffs, this hidden gem offers a glimpse into the city's past and a rare chance to admire the fusion of form and function typical of early 20th-century office buildings.

Whether you’re passing by for business or pleasure, 130 Montgomery Street’s timeless Art Deco design is sure to catch your attention and transport you to an era when architecture was as much about craftsmanship as it was about utility.

Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) was a Dutch abstract painter, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He was one of the founders of the journal and art movement De Stijl. Through this publication Mondrian pioneered the term Neoplasticism, an artform using only vertical and horizontal lines with primary colors: "art in the most purest and fundamental form". His abstract primary colored paintings have influenced the Bauhaus and recently come back into trend in interior decor and graphic design.

My mother trained and worked in the Lancashire cotton industry after the Second World War when the industry in the home county was still a force to be reckoned with. We recently rediscovered some cotton fabrics that she designed, made the silk screens for and printed as part of her student work. Mother is still with us, aged 87, and I wish she'd design some more!
