Had a stop at this well known waterfall on my way back home from Jotunheimen a couple of weeks back, and pulled out my wide angle lense for the first time in a long time! Had hoped for some more autumn colors, but apart from that the conditions were nice! Hope you like it and wish you a nice sunday evening!

Week 49/52

04-May-2022: about turism: my perplexities towards a future with more and more bans and more and more over-taxes.

Lake Bohinj and the much more famous Lake Bled are close (less than 20 km) but the second has a mass tourism now rooted, while the first is expanding its tourist reception in recent years, coming out (unfortunately) from the shadow of Bled, that was a lightning rod for peaceful and symbiotic nature lovers.

I am totally against mass tourism because it transforms a relaxing resort into an area where it is difficult even to access it.

Around Lake Bled, even at a certain distance, there are only paid parking lots, which come to cost 6 euros per hour (about the most decentralized and in May...) that, certainly, leave perplexed about the "tourist selection" that "they" would like to implement (high-end tourism) and, in general, certainly drive away the tourist in search of nature and not restaurants, bars, concrete lake-front and crowd baths.

The naturalist tourist should not feel like a tourist in Nature, which is a single great asset of humanity and that only administratively is divided between various Countries, while in Bled, as in Rimini or Cortina d'Ampezzo, they make you feel not only tourist, but also guest, sometimes unwanted if you spend little.

As tourism increases, so do the bans, because unfortunately mass tourism includes many people who don't know anything about Nature and generally only go to very touristy places to make themselves of...people, sowing dirt and ignorance wherever they move.

The imposition of prohibitions/bans to limit the "damage from mass tourism" affects everyone indiscriminately, including locals and naturalists who have always had a symbiotic relationship with these places, thus making them become inhospitable, at least to those seeking pure contact with nature itself.

Of course this happens all over the world, but it should be condemned.

We already pay State taxes for the maintenance of the slice of Nature that falls within our administration, tourist surcharges, exploiting market laws that should be verified and contained, are for the most part unconstitutional, as well as several prohibitions that deprive access and use of public property.

With the money that the tourist municipalities pocket they could very well implement a targeted prevention (controls by foresters, cameras, ad hoc fences for areas subject to micro-pollution...) rather than closing everything and then de-empowering themself on the maintenance of roads and areas (more and more numerous), thus going to save further, starting from the basic taxes that we pay to also have access to given areas.

I can understand that you tax parking at high altitude to maintain the roads, but the amount of the payment should be directly proportional to the expenses that must be incurred to ensure accessibility, not by putting prices at random and with increases of 200% from one year to the next.

I have always appreciated the fact that Slovenia, thanks also that it is not densely inhabited and has a modest tourism (except precisely Bled, Postojna Caves and the Coast), guarantees a wide accessibility and use of its territories and I hope it can continue, limiting the prohibitions and parking lots everywhere.

Sankt Englmar (English: Saint Englmar) is a municipality in the district of Straubing-Bogen. The name of the place comes from a hermit named Engelmarus, who was born in 1060 in Lüftlhof, Passau. after he was taught by a bishop, he decided to make a colony near the river in Donau. Engelmarus was a popular guy and was thought to be an animal healer. He was killed in the winter of 1100, when some of his "followers" beat him to death, probably because of jealousy. His body was found during Pentecost by a priest named Ruodbertus, who brought his body to the valley, where he was buried. In the year 1131, they built a church over his burial spot. Later the place was colonized and the place was dubbed "Sankt Englmar". This is one of our favorite places in autumn and winter, because, do to its elevation, it often sunny, whereas the Danube valley is full of fog, as you can see in some of my prior images shown in my Photostream.

A quick stitch from three camera jpegs taken an hour ago. I'm regretting not taking another triplet of shots to get the top of the Church in too. Happy Bench Monday!

A macro shot; I don't know what kind of tree this came from, but with a little imagination; it might look like some sort of nature "hit squad", flying high; off on a mission! :)

A relatively new building in a style that I'd call Soviet-inspired prefab.

But I like the shapes and the way the light plays around with them.

Could the shapes be inspired by tyres?

“The moon is a loyal companion. It never leaves. It’s always there, watching, steadfast, knowing us in our light and dark moments, changing forever just as we do. Every day it’s a different version of itself. Sometimes weak and wan, sometimes strong and full of light. The moon understands what it means to be human.

Uncertain. Alone. Cratered by imperfections.”

Took a trip out to Prospect last night. The aim of the mission was to practice my low light, long exposure photography. So here's the thing...It was very cold, my night shots were terrible, my low light shots were okay....BUT what I just couldn't get to grips with was the fact this...ONE of the TWO fishing shacks I love the most in the Province has been re-shingled and NOT been re-painted RED. I am beyond upset about this! This cove was SO picture perfect before. Please if the owners are reading this...You have done a lovely job with the shingles, but please for the love of art, paint it red again.

A huge ego is your worst enemy. An inflated ego can lead you astray and ruin your life. It can destroy your relationships, prevent you from recognizing opportunities, and inhibit true success. Granted, we all need self-esteem and confidence to win in this world. But when confidence becomes arrogance, you risk ruining everything you’ve worked hard to build.

A teneral Damselfly I found today at Wollaton Park, not sure on species, thinking Ischnura elegans. This one was a great subject, almost looks like it was posing for a portrait.

This was a 13 image focus stack, I used my Canon 1000D and shot using JPEGS, ISO 200, aperture F/5.6 and a 1/160 shutter speed. I used a diffused flash in ETTL mode.

My friends,

I created my little (really small) business last Wednesday. In fact, I am the boss and employee. :)

I must say I do not know if I will succeed to earn some money, but one thing is certain, in a week (or two) my website will be there. It is already online but empty now...

I'm scared, really do not know how things will happen...

Have a lovely new weekend...

A moody morning at Gray Lodge Wildlife Preserve in the Sacramento Valley. This is major migration destination for thousands of birds. On this day many of the birds had yet to arrive, but by months end the area was blanketed by birds of many feathers.

Bunschoten-Spakenburg is a medieval town first named in 1294 and received it's city rights by the Bishop of Utrecht in 1383. Because of these rights the citizens were allowed to build an earthen wall around the town. The fortifications didn't last long however because a part of the town was destroyed in 1427 in a war between two rival Bishops and the wall was never rebuilt. It was originally a very important fishing villiage since it was part of a wide, open valley of the river Eem. Their main catch was paling, which is still a favorite of the Dutch today.

A century after Bunschoten was first mentioned, the settlement of Spakenburg developed. Originally the two towns were separated by a river inlet but much has happened in their history to change the lay of the land. Because of the location on the coast of what was then the Zuiderzee (a shallow bay on the Northsea), many floods inundated the area which caused the towns to become isolated.

So dikes were built to hold back the sea and stay the floods, this also caused new land to be created behind the dikes, this land (polder in Dutch) was often below sealevel and needed drainage and pumps to remain dry even if the dikes held, a big disadvantage of the dikes was that it limited access to the sea.

In the early 1900's the prosperous fishing harbor boasted over 200 ships but the closing of the "Zuiderzee" after the floods 1916 and further reclaiming of land after that period brought an end to that. No commercial fishing is now done from this area but heritage wooden vessels are still being built and repaired here.

...was the Zoo visit for Buddylein :)

A normal nightly walk in the park. Good music coming threw my earbuds. Enjoying the simple peace at Sunset. The Sun got lower and lower on the horizon. At the same time the colors we witnessed we’re getting brighter and brighter. Sunsets deliver more than color to me. It’s miraculous to me that between great music and the wonderful colors provided by the Creator during a sunset that a day of physical pain and a somewhat questionable mood can be turned around. Worrying never changes anything. I say, take in the riches of a great Sunset and wonderful music and let life’s troubles dissipate while you enjoy “A Spring Sunset”

Shall we meet, my beloved,

On the heights of songs,

At the crossroads of dreams,

And renew our promises?

Shall we meet, my beloved,

To talk without reproach,

To walk without hesitation,

For there is nothing but distraction?

Bring forth

Your wonderful melodies,

Desires whispering,

And visions in confusion.

So add more enchantment to me.

Bring forth

Our days fleeing,

And love as songs,

And tomorrow as wishes,

And life as memories.
