This beaver picked a prime piece of land for the view alone. It was quite active even with my intrusion, as was building winter food supply behind the lodge. This is now totally ice, a week later. Thanks for looking and may your weekend be bright!
A look back after a new snow dump and removal for most of the day, sick of snow, so a visit to the lake in autumn with a final light. Hope you enjoy and happy Sunday!

The Statue of Liberty is always a dramatic and imposing view on the New York City skyline. I used a slight monochrome and B/W blend to highlight her features.
... but probably not for the nose? ;-))

the cottage in a frosty forest, behind it there is a picket fence and a tall pine tree, and further down there is a field where mists use to lay on in winter mornings.../ En kort historia...en stuga i en frostig skogsbacke, en bit längre när finns det en staket och sedan en åker där morgondimmorna brukar dröja sig kvar efter kalla vinternätter../Una corta historia... una cabaña en un bosque escarchado, con una cerca y un gran pino detrás y más allá un prado donde la neblina suele reposar en las mañanas de invierno...(DSC_7796)
La prison fut intégrée aux défenses existantes en 1573, l’année de l’occupation de Ménerbes – village distingué par sa fidélité au pape – par 150 hommes d’armes protestants. Cet outrage au Saint-Siège ne pouvant rester impuni, un siège fut mis sous le commandement d’Henri d’Angoulême avec environ 15 000 cavaliers et gens d’armes à pied venus de Corse et d’Italie. En dépit de ce rapport de force favorable aux pontificaux, le siège dura cinq ans.
Ménerbes fut entouré de tranchées, des redoutes furent placées tous les cent pas, des batteries de canon installées sur les collines autour.
Malgré des canonnades destructrices, dont certaines avec des boulets chauffés au rouge qui déclenchèrent des incendies, la prison resta intacte. Le village finissant par être privé d’eau potable, après d’âpres négociations, les protestants se rendirent le 9 décembre 1578.
Accessible par le chemin de ronde, l’ancienne prison est constituée d’un logement avec cheminée à l’étage auquel on accède par un escalier extérieur et d’un cachot au rez-de-chaussée dont la porte est garnie de deux gros verrous et d’un judas muni d’un croisillon de fer. Des travaux de consolidation et de réfection des murs, ainsi que la création de nouvelles ouvertures, eurent lieu au cours du XVIIe siècle et furent suivis d’une restauration récente en 2006.

I am not a bird photographer, and never will be. I don't have the patience to stand around and wait. That said, I was out in my back yard in the snow with my camera. I had my macro lens on my camera, shooting close up tulips in the snow, etc. and suddenly saw this woodpecker in a tree. What could I do with a macro lens? Well, apparently, quite a bit, seeing as he stayed still, except for all the pecking he did. I took a couple of shots, then moved closer....and so on. I noticed he'd pecked holes all the way around the tree and started a new row, and the sap was running out. No wonder he's called a redbreasted sapsucker. I had to crop the image quite a bit to get him large enough.
No, this is not going to make me want to photograph birds :) Just if they come to me.
