A pair of Mandarin Duck Drakes were easily photographed at Lynx Lake. Also spotted at a distance were two Mandarin Duck hens.
These Ducks are probably escapees from a private collection. They are native to the East Palearctic ("a zoogeographical region comprising Eurasia north of the Himalayas, together with North Africa and the temperate part of the Arabian peninsula").

Is it a crow? Though the bird resembles a crow, it looks like a freak!
The plumage is mostly brown with streaks of white on the tail and wings.
The eye is brown, unlike the black of a crow.
And the most baffling feature is the curved upper beak…totally unlike a crow…!
A mutant?!! Or an old crow!??

I was finally able to stitch together 7 shots taken at the edge of the cliff with a good sky thrown in. This is what I saw when I stood there. Now I can say good bye to 2015.

This is a beautiful Texas Rhubarb aka Giant Gunnera in Stanley Park that has folded in on itself for winter. I think it makes an interesting abstract. There are so many beautiful details when seen large.

A Eurasian whimbrel (numenius phaeopus) was standing on a wall, in front of a mixture of shrubs and brightly coloured brickwork. This resulted in the backdrop bokeh comprising variations of texture, shape and colour. Photographed near Belle Mare. Mauritius.

A foggy morning along a weather beaten section of the San Mateo County Coastline. The sparse trees stick together making me think that companionship is important even in our wooded communities. Time here is not a linear thing. The orientation of the tree branches provide the only clues to a time before, listing in the direction of the coastal winds--telling the story of powerful storms past.

Had a stop at this well known waterfall on my way back home from Jotunheimen a couple of weeks back, and pulled out my wide angle lense for the first time in a long time! Had hoped for some more autumn colors, but apart from that the conditions were nice! Hope you like it and wish you a nice sunday evening!
A moody morning at Gray Lodge Wildlife Preserve in the Sacramento Valley. This is major migration destination for thousands of birds. On this day many of the birds had yet to arrive, but by months end the area was blanketed by birds of many feathers.

It was just a very ordinary walk in the same Helsinki suburb surroundings, still with patches of ice here and there, but sun already was shining warmer and friendlier than a couple of weeks ago. And then behind a turn of the path opened a view over a little bay, and sunlight fell on the tops of last year dropworts in so marvelous angle that all the scene was flooded with light... I deliberately let the flare come into the photo, because it reveals the feeling from that moment like fairies would be dancing in the branches and chasing the winter away. :-)
Week 49/52
A snowy walk to the bus stop on my walk to work. It was our first big (sort of) snow fall of the winter season taken a couple weeks ago :)

A relatively new building in a style that I'd call Soviet-inspired prefab.
But I like the shapes and the way the light plays around with them.
Could the shapes be inspired by tyres?

I found very little info, not even the architect's name.
Building started in 2018, and it's owned by a company named società Caltagirone.
