1). Top layer is at a #2 on my PM, cut thin slices of cane. (2) slices of cane layered on the top clay layer. (3) I put a sheet of parchment paper over and lightly roll in both directions so not to distort the pattern. (4) this is a stainless steel odor remover which I use to burnish the slices to the top layer. You can use a credit card or your roller to accomplish the same thing

A 2.5-hour trip from Baguio to Pangasinan stretched to a 16-hour, butt-numbing, leg-cramping, heart-racing, doomsday scenes-flashing byahe.
Went up to Baguio last Saturday for an urgent matter. My sister and I left the city at about 8 pm. We risked getting wet as we made our way to the bus station sans umbrellas. We were protected by our windbreakers against the strong winds and the heavy rains. One bus company was still leaving Baguio, an indication that Marcos Highway was still open to traffic. We boarded that bus at around 730 and left Baguio at 8 pm.
And then we got stranded mid-way down Marcos Highway. The bus was being beaten by strong winds and fat rainfall. Para kaming nasa barko. And it didn't help one bit that we knew that on either side, matarik na bangin ang kakahulugan namin.
This was taken at around 6 am (approaching Sison, Pangasinan). It was one of our "pit stops."
Cosme left in its wake a ravaged Pangasinan.
I used the Nikkor 70-300mm VR lens and a +2 closeup filter for this shot.

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Finally have a chance to get back on line after a 2 month holiday up to the Yukon! The internet was very hit and miss and when you had it, it was so slow you couldn't upload anything! We left from our home in Kamloops, heading up to Highway 16, then went north on highway 37, the Stewart-Cassiar highway. Amazing scenery. The Hazelton area was gorgeous with the 7 sisters mountain range watching over. We went as far as the Meziadin junction, then went west on highway 37A, the Stewart-Hyder stretch of the road. On the way to Stewart you come to the Bear Glacier, right along the road! The toe of it actually looked like a bear head, although I think it was probably named for the Bear River Pass! Just outside of Stewart is Hyder Alaska. (yes, we did get 'Hyderized'!!) Past Hyder is the Fish Creek Wildlife area. We were there in June, before the salmon come to spawn and the bears come to feed on the salmon. (we did do a side trip on our way home, the fish were there but no bears on that day). If you keep going on the reasonable gravel road you come to the Salmon Glacier! VERY impressive and so worth the drive.

Badged as XJ6 or Sovereign the term XJ40 was used by Jaguar, during the 1970's developement stages. There were also Daimler, Sport, Majestic, Gold and a TWR tuned XJR variants available during the models lifetime as well as a the rare twin turbocharged Chasseur. All vehicles were fitted with variants of the new Jaguar AJ6 straight six engine initially as a 2.9 ltr. SOHC or a 3.6 ltr S6 DOHC.
The Sovereign model came equipped with significantly more features than the base XJ6. Included was air conditioning, headlamp washers, a six-speaker sound system, rear self-levelling suspension (SLS), anti-lock braking system, and inlaid burl walnut wood trim (pre-MY1991). The headlamps fitted were the rectangular single units. The window frames were made from stainless steel
Amongst changes for the 1989-90 model year these engine sizes were increased the 2.9 becoming 3.2 and the 3.6 becoming 4.0 ltr. Together with the replacement of the electronic dashboard instrumentation, replaced by an analogue system. Further revisions were made for the 1992-93 season including a passenger air bag unfortunately located in the position of the passenger glove box, meaning late models had to do without the glove box
Transmission was supplied by a four speed ZF Automatic manually governed in the 2.9, 3.2 and 3.6 but governed by the ECU in the 4.0 ltr. A five speed Gertag manual box was also available.
For the 1993 season Jaguar produced a 6.0ltr V12 XJ40 which replaced the series 3 XJ12 which was essentially a bored out 5.3ltr. The XJ40 continued production until 1994 when it was replaced by the X300 series

Requiem For A Red Box group

Quote from the dust cover of the book: In 1985 British Telecom decided in their wisdom that these boxes were too costly to maintain in the face of decay and vandalism, and they began to remove them and replace them with an assortment of booths and canopies. There was an uproar.
Red Telephone Box (from Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia)
The red telephone box, a public telephone kiosk designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, was a once familiar sight on the streets of the United Kingdom. It has all but disappeared in recent years, replaced by a number of different designs. The few kiosks that remain have not been replaced because they are regarded as being of special architectural and historical interest.
The first standard public telephone kiosk introduced by the United Kingdom Post Office was produced by Somerville & Company in 1920 and was designated K1 (Kiosk no. 1). This design was not of the same family as the familiar red telephone boxes.
The red telephone box was the result of a competition in 1924 to design a new grander kiosk. The competition attracted designs from a number of noted architects. The Fine Arts Commission judged the competition and selected the design submitted by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott as the winner. The Post Office made a request that the material used for the design be changed from mild steel to cast iron, and that a slight modification be made to the door; after these changes, the design was designated K2. The kiosks were painted red was so that they might be easily recognised from a distance by a person in an emergency. In some rural areas the boxes were painted green so as not to disrupt the natural beauty of the surroundings.
From 1927 K2 was mainly deployed in and around London. K3 designed in 1930, again by Gilbert Scott was similar to K2 but was constructed from concrete and intended for rural areas. K4 (designed by the Post Office Engineering Department and proposed in 1923) incorporated a machine for buying postage stamps on the exterior. Only 50 kiosks of this design were built. K5 was a plywood construction introduced in 1934 and designed to be assembled and dismantled and used at exhibitions.
In 1935 K6 was designed to commemorate the silver jubilee of King George V. K6 was the first standard telephone kiosk to be used throughout the country. Many thousands of K6 boxes were deployed in virtually every town and city and it became a British icon. K6 telephone boxes eventually began to be replaced in large numbers in the early 1990s Thousands of old K6 kiosks were sold off at public auction. Some kiosks have been converted to be to used as shower cubicles in private homes. In Kingston upon Thames a number of old K6 boxes have been utilised to form a work of art resembling a row of fallen dominoes.
In 1959 architect Neville Conder was commissioned to design a new box. The K7 design went no further than the prototype stage. K8 introduced in 1968 was designed by Douglas Scott and Bruce Martin. It was the first box to replace K6 in significant numbers, and the last design be painted predominantly red.
Upon the privatisation of Post Office Telephone's successor, British Telecom (BT), the KX100, a more utilitarian design, replaced almost all the red boxes; a few remain, mainly in rural areas. The KX100 PLUS, introduced in 1996 featured a domed roof reminiscent of the familiar K2 and K6. Subsequent designs have departed significantly from the old style red telephone boxes.
In response to BT's plans to replace red boxes with more modern designs, several of the former have been listed.
My first PC had a 1GB (ish) hard disk.. around 8 years later I have, collectively, about 2,000 times that for essentially the same money. Some of it is even "disposable" memory in the form of ridiculously cheap flash drives. It all has it's uses, of course, what with video eating GB in the blink of an eye, but still.
Kids come into the shop with no knowledge of what floppy disks or dial up is - or was. I remember when the Serial to USB change began, and I was jokingly calling all the whingers "old men". Now people have never heard of USB 1, and I am the old man.
Technology sucks.
In the photo: 2.8GHz Duo Core iMac w/750GB HD and 4GB RAM, plus one LaCie 500GB drive, and one Toshiba 250GB drive, a Griffin Powermate for editing, and a Belkin hub/dock to hold everything together. The laptop is a 2.16Ghz Blackbook with a 160GB HD and 3GB of RAM. The iPod is an ancient 30GB Video. Not pictured is the book's external 250GB drive.
As for the badge; I know it's not quite right as the iMac is aluminium, but look at it... how could I not?

Just taking it easy at Coyote Lake. I was with my cuzz at the time. This was around the Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch County Park just east of San Martin, CA and northeast of Gilroy, CA. This was during another one of our occasional hiking adventures lol. This time, we headed to this location. We came here before so we were somewhat familiar with the area. *About Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch - Coyote Bear provides habitats for many animal species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, insects and mammals. Even the “National Bird” the bald eagle was seen. Mountain lions have also been seen by visitors in the park’s hinterlands. Hikers, horseback riders and off-road bicyclists can explore over 33 miles of trails that wind thru oak forests and along breezy ridgelines with wonderful views. At the Bear Ranch Trailhead in San Martin, there is a 2-mile paved loop that is popular with joggers, dog-walkers, and people just wanting to get outside to exercise and get some fresh air. Certainly, Coyote Lake Harvey Bear Ranch County Park is a great place visit, close to home, yet a world away!

Esta localidad, que pertenece a la parroquia de Villallana y al término municipal de Lena, se encuentra a 30 km de Oviedo y a 2 de la capital del concejo (Pola de Lena).
La primera noticia de época medieval sobre San Martino data del año 905, momento en el que la iglesia de la localidad es donada a San Salvador de Oviedo junto con otras propiedades de Lena, según recoge uno de los documentos falsos redactados en la “oficina diplomática” del obispo Pelayo, que no obstante refleja la existencia de un templo ubicado en Villallana en las primeras décadas del siglo XII. Sin embargo, el templo románico que conocemos, por sus características, tuvo que ser construido con posterioridad a la época del famoso prelado, casi seguro que a principios del siglo XIII por lo que parece que tuvo un precedente del que no se conservan restos.
El templo románico de San Martino desempeñó funciones parroquiales hasta mediados del siglo XX cuando éstas pasaron a llevarsea cabo en otra iglesia situada en la parte baja de Villallana, cerca de la carretera general y de la zona más poblada en la actualidad.
Se ubica en un terreno muy accidentado, de fuertes pendientes, en una de las últimas estribaciones de la sierra del Aramo. El templo de San Martino tenía una sola nave rematada en un ábside semicircular, y es posible que estuviera orientada hacia el oeste, como en la actualidad, aunque el edificio sufrió numerosas reformas a lo largo de su historia.Una de ellas tuvo lugar en el siglo XVII, aunque la más importante fue la de 1893 durante la que se transformó la totalidad del templo, perdiéndose y alterándose buena parte de la fábrica original románica. De ella solamente sec onservan in situlos muros norte y sur de la nave, sobre los cuales se levantó una pared más estrecha que tiene varios óculos realizados con ladrillo macizo rojo . Además, el edificio fue objeto de una prolongación hacia el lado este, hecho que se puede comprobar tambiénal exterior, derribando el anterior muro románico y construyendo uno nuevo que soporta la espadaña añadida. En la reforma, el ábside se trasladó más al oeste, se introdujeron dos capillas laterales que forman los dos brazos del esquema cruciforme actual, y, adosadas a esas capillas, se construyeron otras dos estancias para sacristías.
El ábside es semicircular y está precedido por un tramo recto, que tiene la misma anchura del hemiciclo y sigue su misma línea. Cuenta con una cornisa, que se apoyaba en canecillos, muchos de ellos desaparecidos, puesto que fueron retirados por obscenos y sustituidos por otros durantela reforma de finales del siglo XIX, llegando de esta manera hasta nuestros días. Una parte de los canecillos que podemos ver actualmente data de aquella época, pero existe otro grupo que plantea más dudas en cuanto a su originalidad, ya que, si bien presentan una iconografía que se repite en la zona de Lena, Mieres y Villaviciosa, el estado de conservación de la talla, sorprendentemente bueno, hace pensarque se trate de copias de los modelos originales.

Está situada a 2 km de Prades. Para llegar a ella, debe cogerse un camino a la izquierda de la carretera que va hacia La Febró y Capafonts y que atraviesa una pequeña urbanización. La ermita es un edificio del año 1570, incrustado en un riscal de 1.020 m aprovechando una cueva que había servido de cobijo.

Hacia 1484 allí vivió Fra Bernat Boïl, el primer vicario apostólico en las Indias Occidentales y que, como tal, acompañó a Cristóbal Colón en su segundo viaje a América.
La imagen de la Virgen de l’Abellera fue encontrada, según la tradición, por un pastor cuando iba a buscar miel. También, según la tradición, en este lugar se refugió la reina Margarida de Prades. El primer edificio se construyó en 1570, y en 1578 se añadió el campanario. Consta de una sola nave y en su exterior lateral hay unas vistas espectaculares sobre los valles y montañas cercanas.

The Maserati 3500 GT (Tipo 101) is a 2-door coupé grand tourer made by Italian car manufacturer Maserati between 1957 and 1964. It was a seminal vehicle for Maserati as the company's first successful attempt at the Gran Turismo market and series production.
The main development efforts that led to the 3500 GT were carried out in 1956–57, despite the frantic activity required by Maserati's participation in the Formula 1 world championship. Alfieri modified the 350S's engine to suit a touring car, e.g. by switching to a wet sump oil system and changing the engine accessories.
Next came the bodywork. According to Carrozzeria Touring's Carlo Felice Bianchi Anderloni it was Commendatore Franco Cornacchia, a prominent Ferrari dealer, that put in contact Maserati owner Omar Orsi with the Milanese Carrozzeria. The first 3500 GT Touring prototype had a 2+2 body, with superleggera construction and was white in colour; it was nicknamed Dama Bianca (White Lady).
Engine and transmission:
The Maserati 350S-derived DOHC, 12-valve straight-six engine had a bore and stroke of 86 mm × 100 mm (3.4 in × 3.9 in) and displaced 3,485.29 cc (213 cu in). The engine block was aluminium, with cast iron cylinder sleeves; cylinder heads were aluminium, with cast iron valve seats and hemispherical combustion chambers. It was equipped with a mechanical Marelli ignition, dual ignition and dual fuel pump. It developed 220 PS (162 kW; 217 bhp) at 5,500 rpm when fitted with three twin-choke 42 DCOE Weber carburetor, or 235 PS (173 kW; 232 bhp) at 5,500 rpm with Lucas mechanical fuel injection.

After a 2-hour layover in Stockholm, I'm in the air again. Just after take-off we fly past Funbosjön, a Y-shaped lake east of Uppsala.
On Saturday 11 November, between 300,000 and 800,000 protesters marched from London's Hyde Park to the US Embassy in solidarity with Palestinians. Britain's Home Secretary Suella Braverman had insisted a few days earlier that all those marching to call for a ceasefire, compassion and justice were hate marchers and she pressured the police to ban it. Fortunately, common sense and the law prevailed, and the march was allowed to go ahead.
It was not just a reaction to the indiscriminate bombing of Gaza, the escalating death toll and the blockade of essential supplies to the 2.3 million Palestinians living in the city and the surrounding strip.
It was also a determination to see an end to -

3) An end to restrictions on movement. Across the West Bank there are some 650 Israeli military checkpoints through which only some Palestinians are allowed to pass, often with humiliating questioning and delays, so that they can travel to other towns whether to visit families, seeking medical treatment or for any other reason. In Gaza, travel is even more difficult and only a tiny minority with work permits have been allowed to cross the border - the rest have to remain in what is often described as the world's largest open air prison - the densely populated Gaza strip housing some 2.3 million people.

4) The never ending process of Israeli expansion across Palestinian land, including the demolition of 55,000 Palestinian homes since 1967, occurring on a near monthly basis as well as the cutting down of fields of olive trees and the ploughing up of Palestinian farms to make room for yet more illegal settlements subsidised by the Israeli government.
These settlements are illegal under international law, which rightly recognises the 1967 border. However, since 1967, Israel has constructed 250 of them across the West Bank in which over 633,000 Israelis live in subsidised and often luxurious housing with swimming pools and manicured lawns, an unimaginable privilege to the vast majority of Palestinians.

5) Never ending acts of settler terrorism against Palestinians. Western media rightly condemns occasional Palestinian attacks on Israeli civilians, including the appalling atrocities committed by Hamas on 7 October. However, for years illegal Israeli settlers in the West Bank have staged attacks against Palestinians, sometimes motivated sheerly by hatred, but often by the desire to inflict terror and to ethnically cleanse an area. The most recent incident was an attack on Wednesday 11 October in which masked settlers killed three Palestinian villagers and then killed a Palestinian father and son attending the funeral the next day.

6) The division of Palestinian land by the separation wall. The 708 km Separation Wall, completed in 2005, was supposedly built to protect Israel from any Palestinians that might be able to enter the country without permission, but 85% of it runs up to 18 km inside the internationally recognised 1967 boundary ("Green Line"), frequently dividing Palestinians villagers from their farmland as well as running through the middle of farms and dividing arable land from key water supplies.
Some 10% of the West Bank now lies between the wall and the 1967 border, an area into which everyone, except Palestinians, is allowed entry. Not surprisingly, the International Court of Justice has issued an advisory opinion that the separation wall is a contravention of international law and in 2003 the UN General Assembly passed a resolution demanding its removal by 144 votes to just 4. Analysts also fear that the wall acts as a de facto annexation of all the Palestinian land that lies to the west of it.

7) The myth of Palestinian rejectionism. Western mainstream media usually maintains falsely that it is Palestinians that have constantly rejected a two-state solution, whereas the opposite is the case. Arab states and the Palestinians have frequently made clear their willingness to negotiate a future two-state solution on the basis of the 1967 frontiers, while Israel is committed to preventing any such solution and continuing its territorial expansion.
As early as 1976, Egypt, Syria and Jordan presented a two-state solution resolution to the UN Security Council based on the 1967 Green Line (in accordance with the international consensus) but it was vetoed outright by the United States, even though Washington at the time publicly acknowledged the illegality of all Israeli settlements across the Palestinian West Bank.
The same happened again in 1980.
Later in 1988, the PLO put forward their position in a declaration by the Palestinian National Council calling for a Palestinian state alongside Israel with guarantees of security to both countries. However in May 1989, Israel's Likud-Labour coalition government made it crystal clear that they would not accept an "additional" Palestinian state between Jordan and Israel, regardless of what Jordanians, Palestinians or the rest of the world might think. The founding charter of Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud Party still "flatly rejects the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan river."
8) The frequent killing by Israeli security forces of peaceful protesters, women, children, journalists and medics, including the assassination of renowned Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh in May last year. In the nine months of 2023 prior to 7 October, 248 Palestinians, 40 of them children, had been killed by Israeli soldiers, but these deaths attracted almost no attention in the Western media. Palestinian lives have always been very cheap.

9) The current refusal of Israel to allow any journalists into the Gaza Strip so they can see and report on, obviously at their own risk, the destruction and casualties and suffering of the civilian population.
10) An end to "administrative detentions" across the West Bank under which thousands of Palestinians have been detained without any right to be told under what charges they are being held, let alone any right to a free trial. As the Israeli human rights organisation B'Tselem explains
"Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge, alleging that a person plans to commit a future offense. It has no time limit, and the evidence on which it is based is not disclosed. Israel employs this measure extensively and routinely, and has used it to hold thousands of Palestinians for lengthy periods of time. While detention orders are formally reviewed, this is merely a semblance of judicial oversight, as detainees cannot reasonably mount a defense against undisclosed allegations. Nevertheless, courts uphold the vast majority of orders."

11) An end to Israeli soldiers controlling access to and frequently preventing Muslims from visiting the Al Aqsa Mosque in Israeli occupied East Jerusalem [Al Quds], considered the third holiest site in Islam after Mecca and Medina. On several occasions, Israeli troops and/or police have also attacked worshippers using batons, stun grenades and tear gas, igniting understandable anger across the Islamic World. Radical Israeli settlers also sometimes enter under the protection of Israeli security forces and some also perform Jewish rituals in contravention of current agreements about non-Muslims being allowed in, but only as visitors.
