This is a 2 panel mosaic portrait of NGC 6188, the famous dragons of Ara. Nestled deep in the southern hemisphere in the constellation of Ara, this emission nebula is a magnet for us astrophotographers... and for good reasons, it packs some serious visual punch! With its striking resemblance to 2 dragons and its swirling gas clouds, it's has a very mystic appearance.

 

At the bottom right corner of the frame you will also find NGC 6164, also called theDragons Egg.

 

Each year, I circle back to this object to measure how my skills have levelled up. And you're looking at, in my humble opinion, the best shot I've managed yet... I think... My favourite at least !!

 

In framing this image, my goal was to enhance the sense of movement and flow. By highlighting details in the shadows and striking the right balance with the colours, I've tried to capture the dynamic essence of the interaction between the gasses, the hot and the cold and the dust blocking light.

This is a 2-storey building of Georgian proportions, with a shallow hipped roof and balancing slight projections on each side of the front entrance. A central portico is supported by two sets of double pillars. There is a small arched window above the portico and symmetrically placed tall narrow side windows.

 

Handsome massive pierced cornice brackets support the eaves of the main roof and the eaves of the side bay. This home has the original double leaf front door with a leaded glass transom panel.

Went to beautiful downtown Deland and found a lot of photo opportunities, one was this colorful chair set. A superb moment to test my new old analog Canon A-2, loaded with Ektar 100.

Waking up without the alarm this morning, I took the opportunity to catch the bus one earlier than normal which allowed me to catch the Sheffield to Wrenthorpe before its departure around the blue hour this morning. Refugio de la Renclusa, La Ribagorza, Huesca, Aragón, España.

 

El Refugio de la Renclusa está situado en el valle de Benasque en pleno Parque Natural de Pocets-Maladeta, a 2.140 m de altitud. Es un refugio de montaña guardado todo el año con 92 plazas. Tiene agua corriente, duchas, lavabos, agua caliente, servicio de bar y comedor y mantas. También ofrece servicio de guías, alquiler de material, teléfono y sistema de telecomunicaciones para socorro.

 

Este refugio es notable por su ubicación al pie del macizo de la Maladeta y el pico de Aneto. Es un punto de partida para muchos excursionistas. El Centro Excursionista de Catalunya ya construyó un primer refugio guardado en 1916 en este sitio, que se ha convertido en el actual.

 

The Renclusa Refuge is located in the Benasque valley in the heart of the Pocets-Maladeta Natural Park, at an altitude of 2,140 m. It is a mountain refuge with 92 beds, manned all year round. It has running water, showers, toilets, hot water, a bar and dining room service and blankets. It also offers a guide service, equipment rental, a telephone and telecommunications system for rescue.

 

This refuge is notable for its location at the foot of the Maladeta massif and the Aneto peak. It is a starting point for many hikers. The Excursionist Centre of Catalonia already built a first manned refuge in 1916 on this site, which has become the current one. After the extension and remodelling works were completed in 2006, it is currently managed by the Aragonese Mountaineering Federation and the CEC; despite the exterior change, its traditional activity is maintained. Jaume Oliveras i Brossa mentions it as “chalet de la Renclusa” in one of his books.

Av. Francisco Sosa between Av. Universidad and Centro de Coyoacán is a 2 Km cobblestone street.

 

Sosa is lined with fenced and gated homes & estates with a mishmash of fence and gate styles - so random 1 of 4 of them.

 

Located in the historic centre of Coyoacán this building Casa Alarado at Av. Francisco Sosa 383, is a library devoted to the preservation of sound - Mexico’s National Sound Library containing a record of the country’s music, recordings, and voices of its most famous residents.

 

Built in the 18th century under Andalusian and Moorish influence, Casa Alvarado has hosted many institutions, including the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, the headquarters of the Encyclopedia of Mexico, and an office of the Octavio Paz Foundation.

 

Its current resident holding is a comprehensive archive of the country’s most important audiovisual records.

  

Coyoacan was originally founded by the Tepanec people who migrated into the Valley of Mexico in the 12th century, displacing earlier Indigenous tribes.

 

Coyoacan is the location of the Spaniards first foray into the valley and was the original capital between 1521 to 1523.

 

After the Aztec capital was destroyed, Cortés remained in Coyoacán and made it the first capital of New Spain from 1521 to 1523.

 

Coyoacán was eventually swallowed by Mexico City’s expansion in the 1920s and became part a of Mexico City.

 

IMO the cool thing about Coyoacán is it has retained its old-time village feel.

 

The community is completely different from the hustle and bustle of much of Mexico City.

 

There are no skyscrapers or fancy hotels. With its cobbled streets and colourful houses, Coyoacan has a unique feel of an earlier time.

From a 2 1/4" Fuji Velvia transparency, taken in 1999, I think. Using a Mamiya C330 twin lens. Loved that camera but I wasn't disciplined enough to master the metering part. This is one that had a good exposure.

Ice House Trail is a 2.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Twin Lakes, Wisconsin that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, trail running, and nature trips and is best used from May until October.

Even in less than favourable conditions, its still an amazing location.

Speaking of the Hasselblad, this is one I took with the first Hasselblad I used, the H1D. It was a great camera, albeit quite bulky and a bit buggy. It was one of the older-style ones that had a huge mirror that would flip up and down… this is one reason it was so giant and bulky! This new X1D I'm using literally must be 25% of the size of that honker… I'm impressed I carried the old one around on a 2-month trip around the world. This new one is so much easier!
