In "la fine è il mio inizio", il film su Tiziano Terzani con Bruno Ganz, questo è lo sfondo nelle scene girate sul crinale alla testata della valle di Orsigna. Però nelle scene del film le nubi ricoprono gran parte delle cime e delle valli. Nel giorno della foto il panorama era spettacolare!

About an hour later than the smoky shot from yesterday's post, I drove down Schwabacher Landing Road. The smoke still sat in a pale layer on the horizon but I was able to more clearly see the mountains, and more importantly: the reflections! I can't believe I've driven by this spot a few times and never knew it was here. Then come to find out it is a famous photography location. I certainly know why now!

I had to do some editing to remove the haze to pull out the color and detail in this image. All this image does for me is whet my appetite for a hasty return to Grand Teton National Park.

The sun came out for 3 minutes today, but what a great 3 minutes!

I love Nikon's D600. It's fast, amazing at low light, and has some great new features. If only Adobe would provide an update so I can process RAW!

I haven’t posted a night shot in a while. Time to go back to my roots! ;o)

Please enjoy an image of the Alaska Governor’s Mansion located a short drive from the city centre of Juneau. It is a charming residence located in a heavily forested region of the city. Originally constructed in 1912, the Governor’s Mansion is a century in age.

Alaska is the United States’ 49th state, and was admitted into the Union in January 1959. Since then, the state has had 10 governors, including Sarah Palin, the ninth governor. Palin’s family lived in the mansion during her term as governor, between 2006 and 2009.

No se necesitan muchas palabras para describir Brujas: su solo nombre ya evoca un ambiente mágico, sereno e inolvidable. Un paseo por Brujas es un viaje al pasado, un cuento de hadas hecho realidad.

Las vistas de sus canales, sus edificios históricos y su aire romántico, dejan huella. El casco histórico de Brujas fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en el año 2000.

Un paseo en barca cruzando los canales medievales, es una experiencia muy agradable que recomiendo.

You do not need many words to describe Bruges: his alone name already evokes a magic, serene and unforgettable environment. A walk along Bruges is a trip to the past, a made fairy-tale reality. The sights of his channels, his historical buildings, his romantic air, leave fingerprint. The historical hull of Bruges was declared Heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO in the year 2000.

A walk in boat crossing his medieval channels, it is a very agreeable experience that I recommend.

The Wutachschlucht (The spectacular “Wutach Gorge” is a section of the Gorge Trail) is a popular hiking trail in southern Black Forest, Germany. It is a nature reserve and conservation area known as the Grand-Canyon of the Black Forest. The hike means to run often over narrow trails, to climb up steep tracks or ladders sometimes and to run over rought and smooth. The trail is of amazing nature, very interesting, impressive and sometimes breathtaking and is not recommended with ice and snow.

One thing I wanted to photograph this summer was the Milky Way. Willie and I planned an August trip to Yosemite to shoot the high country and it also turned out that we would be there for the height of the Perseid Meteor Shower. Perfect timing on our part! We photographed sunset at Mono Lake and the Milky Way over Tioga Lake on our first evening.The clock read "am" by the time we got to sleep.

As soon as I woke up in the morning I knew something was wrong. I had no energy, I was having hot and cold flashes, my cough had gotten worse and my nose started to run like a faucet. I figured a good hearty breakfast of eggs and bacon would help. Nope. As the day progressed I realized I had come down with the flu. After several naps, some DayQuill and a hamburger I started to feel better. Willie and I hiked 9 miles to Upper Cathedral Lakes for sunset. Not so easy when you have the flu.

We finally made it over to Mono Lake to photograph the Perseid Meteor Shower and in 45 minutes I managed to captured 14 meteors streak through my composition. Satisfied that we had the photos we wanted we began to walk around Mono Lake trying to find some Tufa's, salt formations created by the lake. The Milky Way positioned itself above these Tufas and we setup and started photographing. Right in the middle of one of my shots I giant fireball streaked through the sky! Tufi's, Milky Way, and Meteors -- what more could I ask for (and thus "T.Msquared": Tufa, Milky Way and Meteors)!

Willie painted the Tufa's with 2 flashlights while our cameras exposed for the Milky Way.

I find the Tufa's in this photo to be a bit boring and cluttered by all the shrubbery and therefore don't love this shot, but I thought it was worth posting because of the meteor next to the Milky Way.

Carroll Shelby's favorite production car

I knew this idea would work since late 2011 when i noticed the new shorter mudguards TLG was about to produce for 2012. I was obviously influenced by _lichtblau_'s Cobra. After that i was working on it a little bit at a time as i usually do when i want to create something as good as it gets for my taste.

Unfortunately on May 11th the automotive legend Carroll Shelby passed away at the age of 89.

The man behind the legendary performance cars Shelby Cobra, Shelby Mustang GT500, Ford GT40, Dodge Viper... was a personal favorite! So i thought it would be nice idea to some kind show my respect with this MOC.

I like to think of this creation as a tribute to the greatest automotive icon Carroll Shelby

Hammarö sydspets in Värmland, Sweden.

Sunrise and sunset are mostly noted for the associated changes in the colour of the sky especially around the sun. On some occasions, clouds will also reveal different colour patterns if present around sunrise and sunset.

This was taken last Thurs, today's sunrise colours are grey clouds. Isn't nature beautiful?

I don't like Mondays....have a great week or Sunday for those still in Sunday.

I woke up early yesterday morning and decided to make the most of the time and catch some sunrise shots. I was pleased to see there was a light mist on this small lake, which I think gives the image an interesting atmosphere. This is a 3 bracketed shot HDR using my tripod.

There are more of the same to come as I soon as I process them....

Temi Tea Garden is the only tea estate existing in the state of Sikkim, India.It was Established in 1960s by the Sikkim government under the last King, Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal with an estimated area of 435 acres. It employees a total number of 406 wokers and 43 staff members. It produces about 100 MT tea annually.The garden is just 18 km from Ravangla and can be visited on a day tour from Ravangla.

The trees - in Pink Colour is called "Mayum" in Local language. Feel the Mayum bloosom in Temi Tea Garden.

Since leaving the Midwest last year, I’ve been meaning to photograph the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge in downtown San Diego. The bridge connects the convention center with Petco Park (home to San Diego’s Major League Baseball team the Padres). At 550 feet, the bridge is one of the longest self-anchored pedestrian suspension bridges in the world and is supposed to look like a sail to fit in with San Diego's nautical history.

I took this photograph from the top floor of a parking garage. I like this view since it not only includes the new Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, but also Petco Park, the new Central Library and the East Village District, which is San Diego's largest and most rapidly developing neighborhood.

I spend an hour or two with my brother yesterday. First I had a completely different idea but it ended up like this. My brother and I found some apples on our way to this spot and decided to use them in the photo. (it's not the same spot as the last photo - Fascination of light - I 35:52 I )

A Torre de Belém é um dos monumentos mais expressivos da cidade de Lisboa. Localiza-se na margem direita do rio Tejo, onde existiu outrora a praia de Belém. Inicialmente cercada pelas águas em todo o seu perímetro, progressivamente foi envolvida pela praia, até se incorporar hoje à terra firme.

O monumento se destaca pelo nacionalismo implícito, visto que é todo rodeado por decorações do Brasão de armas de Portugal, incluindo inscrições de cruzes da Ordem de Cristo nas janelas de baluarte; tais características remetem principalmente à arquitetura típica de uma época em que o país era uma potência global (a do início da Idade Moderna).

Classificada como Património Mundial pela UNESCO desde 1983, foi eleita como uma das Sete maravilhas de Portugal em 7 de julho de 2007.

O monumento reflete influências islâmicas e orientais, que caracterizam o estilo manuelino e marca o fim da tradição medieval das torres de menagem, ensaiando um dos primeiros baluartes para artilharia no país (ver fortalezas).

Parte da sua beleza reside na decoração exterior, adornada com cordas e nós esculpidas em pedra, galerias abertas, torres de vigia no estilo mourisco e ameias em forma de escudos decoradas com esferas armilares, a cruz da Ordem de Cristo e elementos naturalistas, como um rinoceronte, alusivos às navegações. O interior gótico, por baixo do terraço, que serviu como armaria e prisão, é muito austero.

A sua estrutura compõe-se de dois elementos principais: a torre e o baluarte. Nos ângulos do terraço da torre e do baluarte, sobressaem guaritas cilíndricas coroadas por cúpulas de gomos, ricamente decorada em cantaria de pedra.

Este imponente castelo de Foix é um importante centro de atracão turística da cidade de Foix e é igualmente conhecido por ser um dos principais lugares associados ao Catarismo. No século IX foram construídos os pilares do que atualmente é o Castelo, mas que na verdade começou por ser uma abadia de estilo carolíngio, possivelmente fortificada, que no século X foi consagrada a São Volusiano, Santo pelo qual os condes de Foix sentiram grande devoção ao longo do tempo. A abadia acabou por ser destruída durante as Guerras religiosas em França. Também é conhecido que Carlos Magno, possivelmente dentro de uma política de reforço da defesa dos Pirenéus com os mouros que tinham ocupado a península ibérica, reforçou e modernizou o conjunto defensivo deste Castelo.

Segundo alguma documentação conservada, a existência do castelo está comprovada desde o ano 987, e no ano 1012, figura no testamento outorgado por Roger II de Cominges "o velho", Conde de Carcassonne, e conde de Razés, (uma família senhorial proprietária da região que se tinha instalado neste lugar que permitia o controlo das vias de acesso à parte alta do vale de Ariège, podendo observar deste ponto estratégico todo o seu vasto território e que por sua vez lhes permitia a proteção atrás de uma muralha inconquistável,) que legou a fortaleza ao seu filho mais novo Bernardo I Rogério de Foix, o qual herdava o condado de Couserans e parte do condado de Razés. Excluindo isto, existem muito poucos dados sobre os antecedentes deste primitivo castelo. Em 1034, o castelo tornou-se sede do condado de Foix, determinando um importante papel na história militar Medieval. Durante os dois séculos seguintes, o castelo protegeu não só os condes como também as personalidades inspiradoras da resistência Occitana durante a Cruzada contra os Cátaros, tornando-se assim este condado no refúgio privilegiado dos Cátaros perseguidos. No ano de 1116, Raimundo Berenguer III, o Grande conde de Barcelona, interveio militarmente na cidade e no castelo para pôr fim a uma revolta anti catalã. O castelo, que sofreu várias investidas na sua história, entre elas, as de Simão de Monforte em 1211 e 1212, resistiu sempre aos assaltos bélicos, e só foi conquistado numa ocasião, em 1486, devido a uma traição ocorrida por causa de combates entre as duas ramificações da família Condal de Foix. Proeza da época, os Condes lograram preservar o seu território da anexação a outros estados e inclusive experimentaram uma ascensão política. No entanto em Junho do ano 1272, Roger Bernardo III, conde de Foix e visconde de Castelbo rendeu-se ao rei de França, depois de este sitiar o castelo e ter encerrado o Conde numa masmorra até que finalmente este se rendeu e aceitou prestar vassalagem ao rei da França. A torre Redonda (em destaque na foto) foi construída no século XV, e é a mais recente, já que as duas torres quadradas foram construídas antes do século XI. Serviram como prisão para presos políticos e civis durante quatro séculos, até 1862. Em meados do século XIX o castelo de Foix foi declarado Monumento histórico pelo governo Francês. Nesse mesmo século, o castelo foi objeto de uma intensa restauração, tendo como principal objetivo recuperar o seu estilo Medieval.

Desde 1930, o castelo acolhe as coleções do Museu do Departamento de Ariège. Pré-história, arqueologia galo-romana e medieval, etc., este vastíssimo acervo atesta a história de Ariège desde os tempos mais remotos. Atualmente, o Museu organiza as suas coleções sobre a história do nascimento do castelo tentando mostrar como era a vida do Foix no tempo dos Condes. É igualmente interessante o espetáculo “Era uma vez…no Foix” que a cada verão se organiza no Museu e durante o qual todo o castelo permanece iluminado. Sentimo-nos uns privilegiados por ter tido a possibilidade de visitar não só esta imponente construção medieval mas também o seu museu arqueológico, que sem dúvida nos transporta a um mundo que pela distância de tempo nos atrai e nos fascina de uma forma mágica e nos leva a pensar que não é só nos dias que correm que vivemos tempos difíceis, tivéssemos nós vivido nesse tempo e talvez valorizássemos mais as liberdades e o conforto do mundo em que vivemos.

A lenda da ponte do Diabo em Montoulieu

Perto da incrível fortaleza de Foix, na região do Languedoc, França, não muito longe da fronteira com a Espanha há uma ponte. É a ponte Montoulieu que ainda hoje existe e é visitada por muitos turistas, apesar da sua ligação a histórias do Demo... Se você cruzar esta ponte é melhor que não tenha nenhum pecado pendente pois reza a lenda que ela foi construída pelo próprio Diabo, são poucos os corajosos que se atrevem a cruzar a ponte de noite e mesmo aqueles que possuem tal coragem ficam assombrados ao ouvirem ruídos e a sensação do Diabo a espreitar as suas almas...

Reza a lenda que numa manhã, Raymond Roger, conde de Foix, acordou de péssimo humor, passara mal a noite por culpa do javali que jantou na noite anterior". Desse jeito, selou o seu cavalo favorito e partiu a galope rumo às montanhas, este atravessou logo o burgo de Foix e entrou pelo caminho que corre ao longo do rio Ariège, cavalgando pelo lado esquerdo no sentido contrário da correnteza, assim passou por Ferrières e Prayols. Mas logo depois passou-lhe pela cabeça atravessar para o outro lado, desta feita mandou o cavalo cruzar o rio, porém, naquele lugar o rio Ariège corre entre paredes de pedra enormes e a água é profunda, o cavalo com medo recusou-se a passar. O conde ficou furioso, deu meia-volta e voltou para o castelo. Imediatamente mandou vir o barão de Saint-Paul, e disse-lhe furioso: “Sr. barão, esse desvio do rio na sua região põe-me em cólera...” Mas, meu senhor, sempre foi assim desde que existe esse rio! “Chega, exclamou o Conde, ordeno-te que construas uma ponte no local e rápido! “Bom. sim... Eu vou tentar, sussurrou o barão preocupado diante da perspetiva de uma tarefa quase impossível. “Se num mês a ponte não estiver concluída, a tua vida vai ficar por um fio!”E dito isto o conde retirou-se deixando o pobre barão completamente desolado.

Acontecia que o barão era um poeta que não se preocupava com o dia de amanhã e gastava logo todo dinheiro que ganhava. Por isso, ele não tinha um tostão sequer para começar os trabalhos. Então, ele que sempre cantava alegremente dai para a frente ficou pensativo e triste. Os dias passavam e não aparecia nenhuma solução. Ele foi até aos arrabaldes do Ariège e muito desanimado lamentou-se: “Ah! Eu faria um pacto até com o diabo para sair desta enrascada!” O diabo que estava a espreita e tinha soprado essa ideia na cabeça barão, de imediato apareceu “¨Aqui estou eu, disse uma voz por trás do barão. O diabo cheirando a enxofre mostrou-se estendeu-lhe a mão dizendo: “A tua ponte estará pronta no dia combinado! “É verdade, exclamou o Barão! Não posso acreditar, mas se assim é, bem, muito obrigado... Quer dizer... Bom, sim, sim, obrigado, gaguejou o tolo barão. “Sim, sim mas, disse o diabo. “Mas o que é que você me vai dar em troca? “Quer dizer... Bem, gaguejou o barão compreendendo tarde demais que tinha enfiado os pés pelas mãos. “Você não tem dinheiro, eu sei, continuou o diabo manhoso a falar, “olha aqui!” O Camafeu pegou numa pedra e atirou-a ao Barão. Na hora de apanhá-la, o Barão viu que esta se tinha transformado em moedas de ouro! “Mas, eu quero dizer, não sei... “O que eu quero…, Nessa hora o olhar do Mafarrico faiscava como fogo do inferno, é que você me entregue a alma do primeiro que passar pela ponte! ”O barão fechou os olhos e disse: “Certamente! Eu juro-te pela minha honra que a alma do primeiro ser vivente que passar pela ponte será tua!” E cada um partiu para seu lado. Mas a partir daquela data, o barão ficou cada vez mais triste. Ele tinha feito um pacto com o diabo! Cheio de remorsos, foi para o lugar onde vão todos os que tem necessidade de ser reconfortados, para a igreja do mosteiro de São Volusien. Envergonhado por o seu monstruoso pecado, ele escondeu-se por detrás da primeira coluna à direita, e deitou-se no chão a chorar. O irmão sacristão apercebendo-se desse homem estranho, sujo e suspeito, foi chamar o reverendíssimo abade: “Meu pai disse ele, acho que há um ladrão na igreja! “Um ladrão? Como assim? Vamos ver...O abade foi pé ante pé até ao homem deitado no chão cheio de terra e encharcado em suores, escutou e ouviu os prantos do infeliz. “Mas não é um ladrão! É um homem que sofre!”, sussurrou para o irmão. E, avançando, tocou o ombro do barão, dizendo: “Meu amigo venha.” Levou-o à sacristia onde reconheceu o barão de Saint-Paul. Este então contou-lhe o seu caso e a sua dor confessando o seu pecado. Quando a confissão acabou, o reverendíssimo padre disse estas palavras na orelha do barão sonhador e atrapalhado: “ O amanhã vos será necessário... Então vós fareis... então... Surgirá a solução! ”Ninguém ficou a saber o significado daquelas palavras saídas naquele momento. Mas o abade passou a noite a rezar muitas missas pelo Barão.

O pecador voltou para a sua casa, cantando como um passarinho de alegria. Entrementes, durante toda aquela noite, ouviu-se no vale o eco de uma barulheira infernal. Era um canteiro de obras que fazia um barulho pavoroso! Os aldeões de Montoulieu não puderam dormir toda a noite e no raiar da aurora deslocaram-se ao local para testemunhar incrédulos uma ponte bem construída sobre o perigoso ribeiro. Mais tarde Belzebu instalou-se sobre o murinho da ponte, aguardando o primeiro que ali passa-se para levá-lo ao inferno. E quando desabrochavam os primeiros alvores matinais do dia seguinte, envolto numa capa preta, apareceu o barão de Saint-Paul. O Camafeu zombou então, sim, você vai ser o primeiro! “Não não, respondeu o barão, o primeiro, aquele que é para ti olha está aqui! E abrindo uma sacola oculta sob a capa puxou um enorme gato negro que tinha uma panela amarrada na cauda. E o gato saiu disparado, usando todas as suas patas para atravessar a ponte. O Mafarrico furioso correu para pegar o Barão, quando na encosta de um morro apareceu uma procissão dos monges de São Volusien, cantando as ladainhas de todos os santos, com a Cruz na frente e o Abade exibindo o hissope e aspergindo a ponte com água benta. O Belzebu enfraquecido contentou-se com a alma do pobre gato, porém não parou de gritar jurando vingança. Vitória cantavam os monges e o barão! E assim durante muitos e longos anos poucas pessoas ousaram cruzar a ponte durante a noite com medo do Demo.

Entretanto, há mais de dez séculos que não se ouve falar de sinais de Lúcifer na ponte de Montoulieu. Se porventura você passear por ali e o encontrar, fique sabendo que foi você quem lá o atraiu!” - Há lá coisas…

I must have had some kind of precognition into the future because I don't normally keep my camera in the trunk of my car, but after trying to photograph the fog yesterday I decided to leave my camera in the trunk just in case. Sure enough, that time happened to occur on Wednesday.

Willie and I arrived at our favorite San Jose spot just as Lukas Wenger and his wife pulled up. Jave arrived shortly after and we set off to find the cracks. I decided I wanted to setup near some still water that I had found, knowing that I could shoot east or west from here and still include both cracks and reflection in the water. Turns out the sky in the east did nothing but man… the sky in the west!!!

Wilson Ng and Matt Levine showed up just as the sunset started to get good. There weren't any of those high, thin, textured clouds that we photographers normally like. Instead, the entire sky just LIT up. Lit up is probably the wrong term -- it EXPLODED with color! Rain started to fall in the west and the rain clouds started turning yellow, orange, and pink! We stood there hooting and hollering at how beautiful the sky looked. Man was that a beautiful night!

Safety Warning: For anyone who wants to find this spot, I offer you a warning: Despite knowing the safety issues here, I pulled a Willie tonight. Our first time here Willie got stuck in the mud and had to be rescued by another friend. Knowing this, I am normally very careful and test each step before I put any weight down. At one point during this sunset I started walking around trying to find other compositions. As I walked around this little pond of water I started to see the entire pond just GLOW with beautiful red and orange colors; I wanted to get closer. I was so excited that I started to run. I took about 2 steps and realized I was stuck … knee deep in the thick, gross mud. I was able to get myself out but it could have easily been much worse for me. If you find this place, be extremely careful that you do NOT get stuck! Seriously -- even when I knew about, I still got stuck! Cleaning up the mud was not fun, took a long time, and smells horrible!

Grizzly mom with two cubs in the Denali National Park, Alaska, USA

On average, bear, grizzly females have two cubs in a litter and the mother cares for the cubs for up to two years, during which the mother will not mate. Once the young leave, females may not produce another litter for three or more years, depending on environmental conditions.

Except for cubs and females, grizzlies are normally solitary, active animals, but in coastal areas, the grizzly congregates alongside streams, lakes, rivers, and ponds during the salmon spawn.

The grizzly bear is listed as threatened in the contiguous United States and endangered in parts of Canada.

I found out that this pelican has been a resident of the Imperial Beach Fishing Pier for the last 6–7 years. I don't know if that is a tall fishing tale {but I would appreciate it if anyone from IB could weigh in on that assertion to confirm or deny}.

All I know is that I saw him for the first time yesterday ... and then again this morning. I knew it was the same pelican because he favored his right foot. He was quite amenable to being photographed and I got quite close. The close up shots are really good, but I loved this shot the best as it captured the gorgeous morning light streaming down the pier and the distant fisherman. My shot was leached of color for the most part so sliding this right into a black & white was a no-brainer! And most of you know I don't do b&w ... so this is an unusual appearance in my Photostream!!

The Old Republic Building is a high-rise building in Chicago. This was the first high-rise in the area east of Michigan Avenue between the river and Grant Park, and when it was built it enjoyed high visibility.

Its construction finished on 1925 and was designed by Vitzhum and Burns. When it was constructed, at just 24 stories, it was considered a classic skyscraper in every sense of the word. Its height, style, and location demonstrated all of the attributes that when put together make a great skyscraper at the time.

Located on the northeast corner of North Michigan Avenue and East South Water Street, the Old Republic Building was one of the first tall buildings, along with the London Guarantee Building, to be constructed south of the Chicago River on North Michigan Avenue after its widening in the early 1920s. The building exemplifies the city’s efforts to encourage commercial development on the avenue as a result of major improvements brought about by Burnham and Bennett’s 1909 Plan of Chicago. The construction of the Michigan Avenue Bridge, the widening of the avenue and the construction of the bi-level roadway at South Water Street and Wacker Drive in the 20th century changed the face of Michigan Avenue in particular, and the downtown in general.

One thing that caughts ones attentions is the "Betsy Ross" 13-star US Flag outside the building, which was one of the biggest symbols of the American Revolution.
