The Deutscher Dom (German Church or New Church) is part of an important architectural ensemble composed of the German Church, the French Church, and the Konzerthaus (Concert Hall). The ensemble is located on the Gendarmenmarkt which is regarded as one of the most beautiful places in Berlin.
Reflected in the windows of the Quartier 205, a shopping mall, commercial and residential house located between the Gendarmenmarkt and Friedrichstrasse, is the domed tower of the German / New Church. The tower of the German Church, which is much bigger than the building of the church itself, never had a sacral function. In fact the name "Dom" refers to the French word dôme / English dome, and not to a cathedral. Complicated? Let's make it a little more so, the German Church is not to be confused with the Berlin Cathedral which in fact is a real cathedral and the Evangelical Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church of Berlin, Germany.

Dom reflektiert...

From the 8th century BC. the settlements of the surrounding hills united and the city of Rome was founded. The Forum Romanum also known as Foro Romano, is a plaza surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. When you look at the Roman Forum today, you will see a large plain full of ruins. Yet this has not always been the case. Once the Forum Romanum was the bustling center of Rome. Everyone came here. Acting on political talk, important decisions were taken at the Roman Forum. There were several temples where people could pray. For a thousand years, the Forum of Romanum was the center that everyone attended, but in the Middle Ages this once-important center fell back because people became less and less interested in this center. The trade moved to Trajan's markets. The forum Romanum changed into a meadow where cows could graze. Stones and other building materials were taken away to be reused for new buildings. The forum slowly changed into a meadow where farmers had their cows grazed between the last ancient remains. At that time it was given the nickname Campo Vaccino, the cow field. Already during the renaissance people got interested in ancient Rome and the antique buildings of the forum, but this was mainly expressed in occasional treasure tombs in various places throughout the site. From 1800 onwards, work became more structured. In 1870 there was an overall excavation. The forum is now one of the biggest tourist attractions in the city.
Two thousand years ago, the Roman Forum in Rome must have looked imposing. The Roman Forum was the center of ancient Rome. Here were the most beautiful buildings of the Romans: public buildings, temples and memorials. We visit Rome on a hot summersday and temperatures soar to over 40ºC. Photo from the Piazza di Santa Maria Nova at the main entrance of Parco archeologico. We took it slow amid region’s most intense heatwave.
Vanaf 1800 ging men structureler te werk.

The Forum Romanum also known as Foro Romano, is a plaza surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. The Temple of Saturn on the left side of this photo was an ancient Roman temple to the god Saturn. Its ruins stand at the foot of the Capitoline Hill at the western end of the Roman Forum. The original dedication of the temple is traditionally dated to 497 BC. In Roman mythology, Saturn ruled during the Golden Age, and he continued to be associated with wealth. His temple housed the treasury where the Roman Republic's reserves of gold and silver were stored. The three remaining columns on the right of the photo are from the Temple of Vespasian and Titus. The temple was built by Titus in honor of his deceased father Vespasian. Titus, however, only reigned for a few years. The temple was the first important addition to the forum since the time of Emperor Augustus.

The Tiber Island is a small island in the southern bend of the Tiber River in Rome . According to legend, the Tiber Island came into existence after the last king of Rome was expelled in 510 BC. The evil Romans collected the grain and threw it in the Tiber. This did not flush away but remained lying and thus formed the foundation of the island. Around 293 BC ruled the plague in Rome. The Senate was advised to build a temple for Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine. In reality, the island was probably chosen for its isolated location, so that the plague and other diseases could not reach the temple. Although the Temple of Asclepius has disappeared, the island has always been dominated by healthcare. Nowadays there is a modern hospital located. In 998, the emperor had a new basilica built on the ruins of the ancient temple. Today it is known as Saint Bartolomeus on the island. The bridge Fabricius , from 62 BC, was built by Lucius Fabricius, as an inscription mentions and is the oldest preserved bridge of Rome. Caetani Tower of Tiber Island stands on the left of Bridge of Fabricio and before the Basilica di San Bartolomeo all'Isola. It belonged first to the Pierleoni family who built it in the 10th century and later was bought by the Caetani family who lived in. Caetani left the tower because it was not possible to live in it any more due to the floods of Tiber. So the gifted it to the Franciscan monks who restored it and made of it a monastery.

Rond 293 v.

The Mont Blanc massif (French: Massif du Mont-Blanc; Italian: Massiccio del Monte Bianco) is a mountain range in the Alps, located mostly in France and Italy, but also straddling Switzerland at its northeastern end. It contains eleven major independent summits, each over 4,000 metres (13,123 ft) in height. It is named after Mont Blanc (4,808 metres (15,774 ft)), the highest point in western Europe and the European Union. Because of its considerable overall altitude, a large proportion of the massif is covered by glaciers, which include the Mer de Glace and the Miage Glacier – the longest glaciers in France and Italy, respectively.
Not only does the massif form a watershed between the vast catchments of the rivers Rhône and Po, as well as a tripoint between France, Italy and Switzerland, it also marks the border between two climate regions by separating the northern and western Alps from the southern Alps. The mountains of the massif consist mostly of granite and gneiss rocks, and at high altitudes the vegetation is an arctic-alpine flora.
The valleys that delimit the massif were used as communication routes by the Romans until they left around the 5th century AD. The region has remained of some military importance through to the mid-20th century. A peasant farming economy operated within these valleys for many centuries until the glaciers and mountains were discovered by the outside world in the 18th century. Word of these impressive sights began to spread, and Mont Blanc was finally climbed in 1786, marking the start of the sport of mountaineering. The region is now a major tourist destination, drawing in over six million visitors per year. It provides a wide range of opportunities for outdoor recreation and activities such as sight-seeing, hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering and skiing. Around one hundred people a year die across its mountains and, occasionally, bodies have been lost and entombed in its glaciers for decades.
Access into the mountains is facilitated by cable cars, mountain railways and mountain huts which offer overnight refuge to climbers and skiers. The long-distance Tour du Mont Blanc hiking trail circumnavigates the whole massif in an 11-day trek of 170 kilometres (110 mi). The Mont Blanc Tunnel connects the French town of Chamonix on the northern side with the Italian town of Courmayeur in the south. The high mountains have provided many opportunities for scientific research, including neutrino measurements within the Tunnel and impacts of climate change on its highest slopes. Recent rises in average temperatures have led to significant glacial retreat across the massif and an awareness of the need for better environmental protection, including a call for World Heritage Site status."

The Dolomites are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. Typical of the Dolomites are the steep cliffs and peaks created by erosion and weathering. They form a part of the Southern Alps. The Dolomites, also known as the Pale Mountains, take their name from the carbonate rock dolomite. In August 2009, the Dolomites were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Marmolada of 3343 meter high is the highest mountain of the Dolomites. On it's norther side there is flat glacier. The ridge is composed of several summits, decreasing in altitude from west to east. An aerial tramway goes to the top of Punta Rocca. During the ski season the Marmolada's main ski run is opened for skiers and snowboarders alike, making it possible to ski down into the valley. On the south wall of the Marmolada there are beautiful routes for mountaineers and many of them are also suitable for hiking.
Marmolada is a mountain in northeastern Italy and the highest mountain - 3342m, of the Dolomites, a section of the Alps. An aerial tramway goes to the top of Punta Rocca - The queen of the Dolomites. Its brilliant white glacier dominates many a beautiful panorama and is much admired by walkers from near and distant trails. The main slope is “La Bellunese”, which stretches from Punta Rocca 3269m down to Malga Ciapela at 1446m.

A masterpiece of Flamboyant Gothic
The royal monastery of Brou is a masterpiece of Flemish flamboyant Gothic art from the early 16th century.
This rare architectural ensemble was built at great expense by the very powerful Margaret of Austria Duchess of Savoy, governess of the Burgundy Netherlands, godmother and aunt of Charles Quint.
She built the whole in memory of her beloved husband Philibert Le Beau Duke of Savoy , who died at the age of 24.
Inside the church, we can admire outstanding sculptures.

"Mont Fort is a mountain of the Pennine Alps, located near Verbier in the Swiss canton of Valais. It lies on the range between the valleys of Bagnes and Nendaz, north of the Rosablanche. With a height of 3,328 metres above sea level, Mont Fort is the highest summit north of the Col de Louvie (2,921 m).
Mont Fort is surrounded by several glaciers, the largest being the Glacier de Tortin, on its northwestern side. The second largest is the Glacier du Mont Fort, located on its northeastern side. On its eastern side lies the lower summit Petit Mont Fort (3,135 m). The Glacier du Petit Mont Fort lies between the two summits. There are no glaciers on the south side of the mountain. A small lake named Lac du Petit Mont Fort (2,764 m) lies on the south flank.
The summit of Mont Fort is easily accessible by cable car from the heights of Verbier or Nendaz. The cable cars from the two valleys converge at the intermediate station (2,894 m) north of the Col des Gentianes, the upper section reaching a height of 3,308 metres. In the winter and early spring season, the mountain, including the Glacier de Tortin, is the culminating point of the 4 Vallées ski area.

As unusually cold weather gripped Europe at the beginning of March 2018. Nicknamed: The Beast from the East, the cold front caused travel chaos, with hundreds of flights cancelled. Trains broke down. Motorists found themselves stuck on highways and trapped in frosty conditions for hours. This is particularly unusual weather is something that happens very rarely in this country. The big chill also froze canals in the Stavoren - Netherlands. Ice on the Voorstraat canal was thick enough for residents to lace up their skates and glide across its frozen surface. It’s just cool. You can go fast and you see the world from a slightly different perspective. When the temperature drops low enough for long enough, the lakes and the canals become sparkling highways for the skaters. Little kiosks are set up on the ice to dispense heart-warming liqueurs. I really love this part of our culture. Almost everyone, young or old, likes to skate and is smiling and friendly. Today it's the first day of ice skating on natural ice in Friesland. Still no ideal conditions, but I enjoy the sound of my skates over the ice and the view of the village. It is minus two degrees celcius and great skating weather. During the month January and February thousands of geese can be found here in Friesland. The geese are migratory, moving south or west in winter. The greylag geese fly in V- formation to save themselves energy. Friesland in the winter is a real skater’s paradise.
Photo taken from the canal in Stavoren - Netherlands. Parents with children are back on the ice. It was laid-back and hot chocolate milk was enjoyed as it should be. The ice is not equally good everywhere but here in Stavoren you can get nice skating in the front street. Look at the many geese flying in the air. At this time of year they are easy to find in Friesland.
'It sil heve', 'it giet oan'...

Nowadays, these ancient cannons would not hurt a fly.
They remind us that previously, during the Spanish colonization, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea were infested with pirates who did not hesitate to plunder the coastal cities.

After a break with various other photos, i think it's time to get back to the American muscle series. The next featured car is a very ... famous one: General Lee from "The Dukes of Hazzard"! The original General Lee, or just General, was a 1969 Dodge Charger running on various versions of the classic V8 (from 5,2L to 7,2L) and delivering up to 370HP to the wheels. It was named after the American Civil war general Robert E. Lee and on its rooftop it bears a Confederate flag, a variant of the square battle flag of Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Rumors has that General's doors were welded shut and that's why the brothers had to jump through the window to get in and out of the car. In this photo we have a General Lee replica that I found in a local car show a few months back. Interesting detail: at the background you can see a Dodge Challenger Hellcat (powered by a supercharged 6,2L V8 producing a whopping 707HP!), which in my eyes is the modern version of the classic Dodge Charger (although there is a modern Dodge Charger)
Dukes of Hazzard theme song:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=qogVHlmFcx0
διασημο: ο General Lee απο την τηλεοπτικη σειρα "The Dukes of Hazzard"!
The San Juan Bautista Indian Church in San Juan Chamula does not look great from the outside, but it's amazing inside (unfortunately photos are not allowed inside).
There is no bench. Instead, pine leaves dot the entire floor of the church. Thousands of candles are lit, and complete Indian families pray fervently on the floor.
The walls are dotted with statues of saints.
There is no priest, the bishop has the right to enter the church only once a year, for baptisms.
I felt inside this church an incredible mysticism and fervor!

The first five minutes from the life of a monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) are from left to right shown in this collage.
In just 9 to 14 days the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly inside the chrysalis (pupa) is complete. The chrysalis cracks open and out comes the butterfly. (Photo on the far left)
The wings are tiny, crumpled, and wet. The butterfly hangs upside down. (Second photo left)
The butterfly clings to its empty chrysalis shell as hemolymph, the blood-like substance of insects, is pumped through its body. (The last three photos on the right)
As the hemolymph fills the body and wings, they enlarge.
Right now, the monarch butterfly is extremely vulnerable to predators because it is not yet able to fly.
In a few hours the wings are full-sized, dried and hardened.
The monarch will take wing on its first flight.
This picture is taken in the outdoor butterfly garden ( aviary)

I appreciate and honoured for your kind and inspiring comments. Together makes us stronger... I appreciate this opportunity to learn from each other...Thats the meaning of this collaboration and sharing . Take care ...keep on doing . )
Me.
