Lumaha'i Beach is located on Kauai’s northern shore, but do not let the picturesque views fool you. It is a beach best viewed from a distance rather than swimming. The beach has no protective reef, making the coast totally exposed to the open ocean. Nicknamed "Luma-die" by the locals, the slippery rock ledges, powerful waves, strong undertow and currents make this one of Kauai’s most dangerous beaches. I played it safe and went to the beach with my camera and left the swimming trunks behind.

Was there every a time you felt endangered while photographing?

I actually wanted to upload another shot of the huge miners lamp from my last upload, but the weather was great last night to get out and play with some light painting. I was inspired by some shots of Vicki Tate who gave me some advice how to do shots like this. I think for my first try the result is not that bad :)

Have a wonderful weekend every one!

This weekend I had the pleasure of catching up with Paul C Stokes, Martin Turner and The Green Album for some photography. First off we started off shooting in Bristol but after an hour or so we made it over to Weston-Super-Mare to catch a sunset. There were some very nice looking clouds in the sky and I was really looking forward to grabbing a rare sunset picture to add to my collection; unfortunately it was low tide so there wasn’t the opportunity to get a perfect reflection of the pier but I decided to try and see what the wet sand would offer.

Many thanks very much guys for driving me around!!!

I’ve got a few more pictures to go through but after a long journey home, the travelling has finally caught up with me, so I’ll have to take a look at these later in the week.

Have a great evening all and I’ll catch up with you guys tomorrow :-)

Here’s an image of the city of my residence when it’s not flirting with the fog! ;o)

This was also the very last photo I took in 2012 on a very early and cold December morning. Looking back at my Seattle inventory alone, I took roughly 3,700 photos in 2012, almost exactly 100 less than the year before.

It’s odd.

For some reason, I feel this number is extremely low. (Note: My point may have been misunderstood by some -- I find the number 3,700 low for one year, not the difference of 100 images between 2011 and 2012). When I travel to a different city for my portfolio, I can take as many as 4,000 photos in much less than a week. Perhaps, it’s because Seattle is “home”, so I’m never in a rush compared to New York or San Francisco or Alaska where limited time is of the essence. I sleep a lot less when I’m on a photographic mission. It’s terrific!

Wishing you all a fabulous and enjoyable weekend in your relative locations around the planet!

Quick candid shot of a Venetian local enjoying his Sunday paper in a strong winter sun, with fashionably attired dogs in attendance.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week!

Digging through my archives, I found this image. This was shot in Subic Bay, Olongapo City, Philippines and this location used to be the biggest overseas US Naval Base until its closure in 1991. There are more interesting spots to shoot in this location and I know I will be back. However, the question is when?

Have a nice Wednesday to all! :)

I saw two of these white morph Reddish Egrets while helping to lead an Audubon birding trip at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Florida. The white morph is much less common than the dark morph and I was happy to see one this close. The bill turns this beautiful two-tone color during breeding season and is mostly dark the rest of the year.

One photo that has been high on my bucket list was a snowy Yosemite photo. Willie and I have been keeping an eye on the recent storms in the Eastern Sierras and a *huge* one hit over Christmas weekend, dropping over 7 feet of snow in one day in some areas! I rented a 4 wheel drive vehicle and Willie, Alan, my girlfriend and I drove into Yosemite just as the storm cleared.

We arrived at Yosemite to see the entire place covered in white! It was insanely gorgeous. The storm had moved out a bit quicker than we had hoped and we arrived late, to clear skies. As we looked west we saw another set of clouds coming in and we hoped we might be in luck! After scouting several locations we decided that Ansel Adams had it right and we found our way over to Tunnel View for sunset. We were not disappointed! Some low fog rolled into the valley, the trees stayed covered in white, and a slit of light made its way onto El Capitan for a beautiful view!

To my surprise, my favorite image from the day happened to be one I had not expected at all. An almost full-moon rose just after the sun set, right during blue hour, and everyone raced around to capture the moon rising over Half Dome. I threw on my 80-200mm lens until Alan mentioned, "hey, try going wide." By this point I was cold, tired, and ready to get home before the roads turned awful so I fired 1 quick shot, packed up my bags and went to warm up in the car. When I got home I realized how right Alan was ... I liked this shot more than all my others!

In the end we spent twice as much time driving as we did in Yosemite but it was well worth it!

1 of 52 Speed - Going to use this one for my 52 week project - both the dogs are having so much fun as you can see - speeding towards me :-) got good treats in my pocket :-)

Getting a full moonrise over Yosemite Valley had been on my bucket list but had eluded me for some time. My original plan for the day was to shoot the full moon rising over the Painted Ladies with the San Francisco skyline during blue hour. However, the forecasted clearing storm in Yosemite was too promising to pass up.

While shooting sunset at Tunnel View, I was so engulfed watching the epic conditions unfold I nearly forgot about the moonrise. Once the sunset show was over, all the photographers began chattering about the impending full moon rise.

Somehow, no one seemed to know where or when exactly the moonrise was to occur. Figuring that we had already driven 4 hours to Yosemite, Alan, Aaron, and I decided to wait it out. Twilight began kicking in and all of a sudden, the moon appeared on the horizon north of Cloud’s Rest. At that moment, the entire crowd of photographers flocked southward at the Tunnel View overlook.

Initially I focused on shooting the moon using my tele lens in hopes of getting a giant moon framed with Half Dome. However, the moon’s position had too much spread from Half Dome and the wider angle shot seemed more optimal. For my last shot, I threw on my 24-70 lens for a midrange shot with hopes of a light star from the moon. I really did not expect much out of the shot but was pleasantly surprised with the result. It was an evening worthy to remember: an epic sunset followed by a full moon rise over Yosemite Valley.

Extensão: 13,29 km (8,26 mi);

Atualmente é considerada a maior ponte, em concreto protendido, do hemisfério sul e atualmente é a sexta maior ponte do mundo.

Excelente equilibrio compositivo.

Chamonix is dominated by the white majestic dome of Mont Blanc, at 4,810m the highest mountain in western Europe.

Every year the summit of Mont Blanc becomes the ultimate objective for mountaineers the world over, all striving to stand on top of the roof of Europe and look down on all of the major summits of the Alps.

To climb Mont Blanc from Chamonix, people normally chose one of the two most common routes. Slightly more technical, the route from the Aiguille du Midi, over Mont Blanc du Tacul and Mont Maudit is generally quieter, and highly dependent on conditions.

The slightly easier and more reliable option is via the Tramway du Mont Blanc to the Nid d'Aigle, then up the Aiguille du Gouter and the Bosse ridge.

While not technically challenging, ascending Mont Blanc requires a high level of physical fitness and experience using crampons and an ice axe.

Having been to this location several times with poor results, I was determined to come away with the perfect panoramic. The ocean was pounding the headland and was kicking up a lot a sea spray making it very difficult to get a set of frames before having to clean my filters but was also creating an amazing atmosphere. I decided to shield myself from the spray and spent the next 20 minutes switching from west to east and found that the combination of sea spray and sunlight looking towards the Pinnacles was creating a stunning three dimensional effect. Getting down low and shifting my Schneider up I captured the perfect set of frames for this panoramic. After a quick stitch on my Mac Air and a little work in Photoshop I was happy with the final result.

Levanto is the Hidden Gem on the Italian Riviera and the doorway to the Cinque Terre. A town of pre-roman origins, lies at the northern end of the enticing little villages. Levanto literally means the land situated east of Genova. It has a long sandy beach, an interesting old center, many delightful painted villas, a bustling Wednesday market, and good restaurants and shops. Levanto is a real town with a city park where families get together and the children have fun. You can actually even find a laundromat here as well as normal shops not always found in larger touristy locations. It's most picturesque, fun and quaint at the same time, very accessible, and terrific for swimming. Being on the water makes the cliffs more dramatic, the colors more intense, and the water a deeper shade of blue. Enjoying a partcularly mild climate, from here it's easy to visit the fascinating ports of the Cinque Terre, either by train, by sea or hiking.

Beautiful cycle path built on the route of the old coastal railway from Levanto to Bonassola. Along the stretch these young couple can also access to beaches and hidden coves otherwise unreachable except by sea. Among the most loveliest paths there is in Italy. Recommended to all.

If I held in my hand

Every grain of sand

Since time first began to be

Still, I could never count

Measure the amount

Of all the things you are to me

If I could paint the sky

Hang it out to dry

I would want the sky to be

Oh, such a grand design

An everlasting sign

Of all the things you are to me

You are the sun

That comes on summer winds

You are the falling year

That autumn brings

You are the wonder and the mystery

In everything I see

The things you are to me

Sometimes I wake at night

And suddenly take fright

You might be just fantasy

But then you reach for me

And once again I see

All the things you are to me

You are the sun

That comes on summer winds

You are the falling year

That autumn brings

You are the wonder and the mystery
