I've found about 3 hours for this work, improving only one concept, and at the end I lost a sense to determine whether the effect is satisfactory for me, I hope so. And finally I broke square format.

Chamonix is dominated by the white majestic dome of Mont Blanc, at 4,810m the highest mountain in western Europe.
Every year the summit of Mont Blanc becomes the ultimate objective for mountaineers the world over, all striving to stand on top of the roof of Europe and look down on all of the major summits of the Alps.
To climb Mont Blanc from Chamonix, people normally chose one of the two most common routes. Slightly more technical, the route from the Aiguille du Midi, over Mont Blanc du Tacul and Mont Maudit is generally quieter, and highly dependent on conditions.
The slightly easier and more reliable option is via the Tramway du Mont Blanc to the Nid d'Aigle, then up the Aiguille du Gouter and the Bosse ridge.
While not technically challenging, ascending Mont Blanc requires a high level of physical fitness and experience using crampons and an ice axe.

Wolfgangsee is a lake in Austria that lies mostly within the state of Salzburg and is one of the best known lakes in the Salzkammergut resort region. The municipalities on its shore are Strobl, St. Gilgen with the villages of Abersee and Ried as well as the market town of St. Wolfgang in the state of Upper Austria. The town and the lake are named after Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg, who, according to legend, built the first church here in the late 10th century.
The Wolfgangsee stretches about 10.5 kilometres from the northwest to the southeast. It is divided into two parts by a peninsula, called die Enge (the Narrow), situated roughly in the middle of its southern shore opposite St. Wolfgang, where the breadth is no more than 200 metres. The western portion of the lake at St. Gilgen is known as the Abersee.
The lake has an area of about 12.9 to 13.1 km² and is completely surrounded by the Salzkammergut mountain range. On the northern side, the Schafberg is located. A rack railway, the Schafbergbahn leads up to the summit at 1,782 m. Due to the steep shore at its foot only a footpath connects St. Wolfgang and the village of Ried with St. Gilgen along the Falkensteinwand, the set of the Bergpsalmen ("mountain psalms") lyric anthology written by Joseph Viktor von Scheffel in 1870. In the south and southwest of the Wolfgangsee lies the Osterhorngruppe, with heights up to 1,800 metres. Directly south of St. Gilgen rises the Zwölferhorn (1,521 m), which can be visited by cable car.
The settlements around the lake, especially St. Wolfgang and St. Gilgen are popular resort towns, mainly in summer. The Gasthaus Weißes Rössl at St. Wolfgang is the set of the famous 1897 operetta The White Horse Inn by Ralph Benatzky, performed throughout the world and filmed several times. Furthermore the area around the lake was the location of several Heimatfilm movies, suggesting an untouched alpine idyll. As the Wolfgangsee has been the vacation resort of former German chancellor Helmut Kohl for many years, the film director Christoph Schlingensief made the lake a site of his Chance 2000 project of 1998 when he invited "Germany's four million unemployed" to take a bath in the lake and flood Kohl's residence.

The Alps (French: Alpes; German: Alpen; Italian: Alpi; Romansh: Alps; Slovene: Alpe) is the name for one of the great mountain range systems of Europe, stretching from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west. The word "Alps" was taken via French from Latin Alpes (meaning "the Alps"), which may be influenced by the Latin words albus (white) or altus (high) or more likely a Latin rendering of a Celtic or Ligurian original.
The highest mountain in the Alps is Mont Blanc, at 4,808 metres (15,774 ft), on the Italian-French border. All the main peaks of the Alps can be found in the list of mountains of the Alps and list of Alpine peaks by prominence.
The Alps are generally divided into the Western Alps and the Eastern Alps. The division is along the line between Lake Constance and Lake Como, following the Rhine. The Western Alps are higher, but their central chain is shorter and curved; they are located in Italy, France and Switzerland. The Eastern Alps (main ridge system elongated and broad) belong to Austria, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Slovenia and Switzerland.
The Alps are a classic example of what happens when a temperate area at lower altitude gives way to higher elevation terrain. Elevations around the world which have cold climates similar to those found in polar areas have been called alpine. A rise from sea level into the upper regions of the atmosphere causes the temperature to decrease. The effect of mountain chains on prevailing winds is to carry warm air belonging to the lower region into an upper zone, where it expands in volume at the cost of a proportionate loss of heat, often accompanied by the precipitation of moisture in the form of snow or rain.

Having been to this location several times with poor results, I was determined to come away with the perfect panoramic. The ocean was pounding the headland and was kicking up a lot a sea spray making it very difficult to get a set of frames before having to clean my filters but was also creating an amazing atmosphere. I decided to shield myself from the spray and spent the next 20 minutes switching from west to east and found that the combination of sea spray and sunlight looking towards the Pinnacles was creating a stunning three dimensional effect. Getting down low and shifting my Schneider up I captured the perfect set of frames for this panoramic. After a quick stitch on my Mac Air and a little work in Photoshop I was happy with the final result.

Levanto is the Hidden Gem on the Italian Riviera and the doorway to the Cinque Terre. A town of pre-roman origins, lies at the northern end of the enticing little villages. Levanto literally means the land situated east of Genova. It has a long sandy beach, an interesting old center, many delightful painted villas, a bustling Wednesday market, and good restaurants and shops. Levanto is a real town with a city park where families get together and the children have fun. You can actually even find a laundromat here as well as normal shops not always found in larger touristy locations. It's most picturesque, fun and quaint at the same time, very accessible, and terrific for swimming. Being on the water makes the cliffs more dramatic, the colors more intense, and the water a deeper shade of blue. Enjoying a partcularly mild climate, from here it's easy to visit the fascinating ports of the Cinque Terre, either by train, by sea or hiking.
Beautiful cycle path built on the route of the old coastal railway from Levanto to Bonassola. Along the stretch these young couple can also access to beaches and hidden coves otherwise unreachable except by sea. Among the most loveliest paths there is in Italy. Recommended to all.
Levanto ligt in de Italiaanse regio Ligurië en valt onder de provincie La Spezia. Levanto is voor vele Cinque Terre bezoekers de verblijfplaats voor hun bezoek. Er zijn heel wat hotelletjes en B&Bs, die doorgaans iets goedkoper zijn dan deze in de vijf dorpen van de Cinque Terre. Met de trein ben je vanuit Levanto op enkele minuten in Monterosso. Maar Levanto is ook zelf meer dan de moeite waard. Omringd door een uiterst vriendelijke plaatselijke bevolking en verwend met alle culinaire geneugtes van Italië is het een weldaad om in Levanto door te brengen. Onthaasten op een terrasje, heerlijk uitrusten aan het prachtige strand en 's avonds lekker eten. Het dorp is omringd door heuvels die zijn bezaaid met wijngaarden en olijfbomen en heeft fantastische stranden, adembenemende riffen en kristalheldere wateren. Leuk en erg gezellig, zeer toegankelijk en geweldig voor zwemmen. Het strand in Levanto wordt in de zomermaanden altijd druk bezocht door Italianen.

"Clizia era una giovane ninfa, innamorata persa del Sole, pertanto lo seguiva tutto il giorno mentre lui guidava il suo carro di fuoco per tutto l'arco del cielo. Il sole, dapprima fu lusingato e un pochino intenerito da quella devozione... credette di esserne a sua volta innamorato e decise di sedurla cosa non difficile per lui!
Ma ben presto il Sole si stancò dell'amore di Clizia e le diede, come suol dirsi... il benservito rivolgendo altrove le sue attenzioni.
La povera ninfa pianse ininterrottamente per nove giorni interi. Immobile in mezzo a un campo, osservava il suo amore attraversare il cielo sul suo carro di fuoco.

I keep telling myself to get out and get more sunrises and sunsets so this morning I set the alarm and went for it.
I almost didn't get out of bed and went back to sleep for 10 more minutes, very naughty.
Got out of bed, got ready and headed for Beachy Head but not to jump off oh no, to try and get some colours in the morning sky.
The colour was hidden behind this band of moody clouds which ran along the horizon but the rest of the sky was clear so I zoomed in to crop out the bland part of the sky and capture all the sunrise colour.
I used my Lee 0.6 Hard ND grad to darken those clouds and bring out the colours, to enhance this more I underexposed as well.
I really like how the tankers are along the horizon and lit by all that orangey goodness with the Beachy Head lighthouse warning them not to come any closer.

Lake Manyara National Park is a national park in Arusha Region, Tanzania. The park consists of 330 km2 of arid land, forest, and a soda-lake which covers as much as 200 km2 of land during the wet season but is nearly nonexistent during the dry season.
Lake Manyara National Park is known for the flamingos that inhabit the lake. During the wet season they inhabit the edges of the lake in flocks of thousands but they are not so present during the dry season.
More than 400 species of birds inhabit the park and many remain throughout the year. Because of this Lake Manyara National Park is a good spot for bird watching. Visitors to the park can expect to see upwards of 100 different species of bird on any day.
Leopards, lions, elephants, blue monkeys, dik-dik, gazelle, hippo, giraffe, impala, and more inhabit the park and many can be seen throughout the year. There is a hippo pond at one end of the park where visitors can get out of their cars and observe from a safe distance. The leopards and lions are both known to lounge in the trees while not hunting for prey.
I recall this morning vividly. How breathtakingly beautiful the sky was, all lit up with the morning sun coming up behind me. When I opened up the images at home ... I was a bit underwhelmed to say the least. See the SOOC in comments.
Instead of tossing the images, I pulled out my digital paint palette and set to work painting a dream ... painting what I 'thought' I saw!!

Monterosso is one of the five villages in Cinque Terre. The Cinque Terre have come to be among the most popular areas of Italy among tourists. The coastline, the five villages, and the surrounding hillsides are all encapsulated in a national park by the same name. The Cinque Terre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's most picturesque, fun and quaint at the same time, very accessible, and terrific for swimming. Monterosso al Mare is actually two towns—a bustling, character-filled old town built behind the harbor. Narrow and winding streets, colorfully-painted buildings, unique shops, people at work and play - similar to most Italian towns. Somehow, though, it just never gets old. The medieval Torre Aurora or Dawn Tower separates the old part of Monterosso from the new part. It is located on a headland, jutting out into the sea. The tower is the only one remaining of an original 13 towers which surrounded Monterosso in the 16th century. In addition to the spectacular scenery, Monterosso’s beaches are favorites with tourists because they provide easy access to the culinary delights for which the region is so famous. The grapes and olives cultivated on terraces carved into the surrounding mountainside are turned into award-winning wines, liqueurs, and olive oils. Anchovies are a local specialty, as is the pesto sauce, made from locally produced basil, garlic, pine nuts, and pecorino cheese.
Clothes drip dry from washing lines above the restaurants, the narrow streets are clad in stone, and in the evenings, the sea gentle tumbles the shoreline's boulders. Monterosso may be the busiest of the Cinque Terre towns, with the most hotels, restaurants, and bustle, but calling it "busy" is a relative thing. The town remains little more than an oversized fishing village, with all the attendant charms.

Het havengebied is rijk aan oude steegjes, typische smalle kleurrijke straatjes van Ligurië, waar je wijnbars, restaurants, focaccia en ijssalons kunt vinden. Het oude stadsdeel ligt achter de spoorlijn en in de kleine straatjes liggen talrijke winkeltjes en eetgelegenheden.Monterosso heeft een leuke boulevard en pleintjes. De restaurants in de oude binnenstad zijn van goede kwaliteit, het slimste is van te voren te reserveren anders is er wellicht geen plaats meer. Het dorp ligt in het natuurpark Cinque Terre, een groene, bosrijke en heuvelachtige omgeving met authentieke dorpjes en hoge rotskliffen. Langs de kust loopt een wandelpad die de Cinque Terre met elkaar verbindt, nl. van Monterosso al Mare via Vernazza, Corniglia en Manarola naar Riomaggiore. Je kan op verschillende manieren de prachtige omgeving bekijken, wandelen, trein en boot.

Well, if this scan doesn't sell me on large format, nothing will.
After I scanned this negative and pulled up the file on my iMAC, I was blown away by the depth of detail in this image. There is a broken piece of rope hanging (I made a note on the image) on the tree in the middle of this frame. When I zoomed in on this area of the negative, the detail in the rope amazed me. Even when I zoom in on the background trees in the distance, the detail on the tree trunks are impressive. And I didn't even scan this at a really high rez setting !
16 Mile Creek meanders through a valley and is surrounded by some beautiful wooded scenes. Initially I thought that I would focus my compositions on the creek itself but clearly the depth, detail and beauty of the surrounding woods will be worth exploring with the ShenHao 4x5.
Oh yeah ... I dog ran through the frame while I was exposing this frame. I guess at 15 seconds of exposure time, it didn't register.

According to Wikipedia, biochemist Robert Shapiro summarized the "primordial soup" theory of Oparin and Haldane in its "mature form" as follows:
1.The early Earth had a chemically reducing atmosphere.
2.This atmosphere, exposed to energy in various forms, produced simple organic compounds ("monomers").
3.These compounds accumulated in a "soup", which may have been concentrated at various locations (shorelines, oceanic vents etc.).
4.By further transformation, more complex organic polymers – and ultimately life – developed in the soup.

Arachtober snuck up on me this year. I'm a couple days late. This beautiful arachnid was photographed this summer at Lake Lotus Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

I've been up since 2:30 AM. A disgruntled dude was walking up and down the road cursing at his woman on his cell phone. I won't repeat what he said! It was BAD!!
So naturally, I was wide awake when I noticed the moon coasting in high over the beach. I had plenty of time to grab my gear {unlike yesterday, this morning I actually had my camera with me ... but that is another story}!
The dawn patrol was in full force. The waves have been spectacular these past few days. I took hundreds of shots ... waiting for the perfect moment ... for the waves to curl, and a bird to fly over the moon. I've always wanted to capture a scene like that!
Since it was Sunday, thought I'd do some sliding!

Mountains of Ergaki
The mountain range Ergaki is one of the most amazing corners of nature in the West Sayan Mountains. Exceptional in its beauty and greatness chisel-shaped granite peaks, full of rapids cold rivers, the deepest surrounded by virginal taiga and unapproachable rock walls lakes, polished by glaciers till high lustre trog valleys, magnificent waterfalls and rocky rivers of kurums - these are the things which attract tourists to this magic place of the Sayan Mountains.
