No place for error!!Jelly legs garantyThe Cobbler walk (Ben Arthur walk) climb from arrochar 5.5 miles ..2900 feetThe Cobbler, or Ben Arthur to use the correct name is just short of a Munro but is still one of Scotland's most spectacular mountains due to the unusual skyline and fabulous views. The Cobbler is one of a group of mountains known as 'The Arrochar Alps' and was the happy hunting ground of many of Scotland's early climbers and climbing clubs.

This is that gate ("torii") that appears so often on any publicity material about Japan. And no wonder, it is an impressive thing to behold. It sits in the sea just off the shore of Miyajima island near Hiroshima. It was built as the main approach to Itsukushima shrine.

At ebb tide it stands free of water and you can walk right up to it. At high tide, tourist boats sail underneath it.

Montserrat, Barcelona (Spain).

ENGLISH

The mountain of Montserrat is a massif that towers over the right bank of the Llobregat River. This massif is one of the highest and rockiest sections in the Prelitoral Catalana mountain chain. The Monastery of Montserrat perches 725 metres above sea level, whilst, at an altitude of 1,236 metres, Sant Jeroni is the highest point in the massif.

Soaring up abruptly from the Llobregat River, these mountains appear higher than they really are. Nor are there any other mountains nearby that can compete with Montserrat in terms of altitude, so that the massif stands out even more in its solitary splendour.

The mountain is around 10 kilometres long and 5 wide, with a perimeter of some 25 kilometres. All in all, Montserrat covers an area of 45 square kilometres.

The silhouette of the massif calls to mind the toothed blade of a saw, and this explains its name, for Montserrat means “serrated or saw-toothed mountain”.

*History: This town was founded in 1284 by the English King, Edward I, who was also had the title of Duke of Aquitaine. It is an example of an almost completely preserved bastides, which were fortified towns, built in the areas disputed by England and France in the 12th century. This attractive and peaceful village has a turbulent and violent history at the hands of various protagonists.

A "discreet" parrot wanted to pass unnoticed between the herd of pigeons that pecked bread. Unfortunately for him it was discovered. In the last years the population of parrots in freedom in Barcelona has grown enormously, and they already dare to compete with the pigeons.

In 1714 Barcelona fell to the army of Philip V after a long siege. The dogged resistance of the city meant that its new rulers wanted to keep it under firm control.

A year later, Philip V ordered a giant new garrison fort, the largest in Europe, to be built in order to guard the city. The buildings of the Ribera district were demolished and in their place, in 1716, the new fortifications began to be erected, paid for by the city itself.

In 1841, the Junta de Vigilància (Board of the Guard) began to dismantle it, but under the Regency it was restored in 1843.

After the anti-Bourbon revolution of September 1868, the Catalan general Joan Prim decideded to turn over the garrison fort, the Ciutadella, to the city, which from 1869 to 1888 had it pulled down, this time definitively. All that was preserved was the Governor's palace, the chapel and the arsenal.

In 1888 Barcelona held a Universal Exhibition, inspired by Mayor Rius i Taulet, and the park was built on the grounds of the demolished Ciutadella. This event marks the end of the old provincial Barcelona and the establishment of a modern cosmopolitan city.

My most interesting pictures

Test shot with the new Polaroid SX-70 I've got from eBay, rather a clever little Polaroid, it's surprisingly small too, I rather like how easy it is to focus and how it look through the viewfinder, much better than looking through my Lubitel 166B viewfinder (quick note - i didn't like having the border on the Polaroid so I decided to just crop to the picture itself, nice and clean).

I managed to modified the 600 films into the SX-70, removing the ND filter on the sensor and set the camera to the darkest setting on the sensor, picture still came out slightly overexposed but not so much.

Who need Photoshop?

Edited - I've notice due to Polaroid announced that they won't be doing instant film anymore, this lead to an increase number of people searching "Polaroid" on Flickr, and since this polaroid came first out of the list of search, I take this chance to show you the Save Polaroid site;

"This site will document the aftermath of this announcement and will serve as a home-base for the effort to convince another company to begin producing the cherished technology that Polaroid has so carelessly abandoned, this is not about saving Polaroid, the company, rather the remarkable invention of Edwin Land, the instant film that made Polaroid a household name."

Yerterday in the morning I saw this beauty of flower in my garden, and I thought that my family nor me did not have to be the only ones in being able to enjoy its view. It is for that reason that I shoot several photos. All you see here is natural, without post-processing. The water drops are because the rosebush was watered some minutes before.

And I give this rose to all my female friends of Flickr because today is the day of Sant Jordi. The bright, sunny color of yellow roses evokes a feeling of warmth and happiness. The warm feelings associated with the yellow rose are often akin to those shared with a true friend. As such, the yellow rose is an ideal symbol for joy and friendship.

La Diada de Sant Jordi, also known as el dia de la rosa (The Day of the Rose) or el dia del llibre (The Day of the Book) is a Catalan holiday celebrated on April 23 similar to Valentine's Day with some unique twists that show the ancient practice of this day. The main event is the exchange of gifts between sweethearts, loved ones and respected ones--historically, men gave their girlfriends and wives roses, and women gave their boyfriends and husbands a book to celebrate the occasion. In modern times, the mutual exchange of books is customary. Roses have been associated with this day since medieval times, but the giving of books is a more recent marketing ploy. In 1923, a smart bookseller started to promote the holiday as a way to honour the nearly simultaneous deaths of Miguel Cervantes and William Shakespeare on April 23, 1616. Barcelona is the publishing capital in both Catalan and Spanish and this heady one-two punch of love and literacy was quickly adopted.

On Barcelona's principal street, La Rambla, and all over the city, hundreds of stands of roses and makeshift bookstalls are hastily set up for the occasion. By the end of the day, some four million roses and 400,000 books will have been purchased in the name of love. You will be hard-pressed to find a woman without a rose in hand, and half of the total yearly book sales in Catalonia take place on this occasion.

And while La Diada de Sant Jordi is not an "official" holiday, most romantics ditch the office to stroll the beautiful streets of Barcelona and to take in the sultry springtime weather. Love is definitely in the air, but even if you don't have a novio to smooch on a park bench there are still plenty of things to see and do.

For example, the sardana, the national dance of Catalonia, will be performed throughout the day in the Plaça Sant Jaume. And many book stores and cafes host readings by noted authors (look out for 24-hour marathon readings of Cervantes' "Don Quixote"). And there will be a variety of street performers and musicians on hand to add a romantic ambience to nearly every public square and plaza.

Additionally, April 23rd is the only day of the year when the Palau de la Generalitat, Barcelona's principal government building, is open to the public. Inside this Gothic architectural masterpiece you'll see huge displays of roses created to honour Saint George.

Wanted to give the comet a sense of scale/size by going wide and including the two trees (living and dead) and the swamp.
