The Yavapai and Mather Points are located near one another by the edge of the south rim.
Yavapai provides perhaps the best panorama of the three points on this part of the south rim as it is the most northerly, and the closest to the Colorado River, allowing for unobstructed views up and down the gorge.
East view of the Yavapai Point provides views of the O'Neill Butte and Cedar Ridge.
This particular Point is a photographer's destination at sunset.

These wild horses were grazing in the parking lot of the recreation area when I first arrived. Quickly they wandered down to the river where I was able to get off several shots before they disappeared down stream.

This shot (four of five) was taken on the 4th of July at sunset. Just before this picture was taken the sun had been obscured by a thick cloud layer. Throughout the process, I held out hope that the sun might pop out under that lower sliver of sky below the cloud, which it finally did. Fortunately, this sunset and the corresponding twilight that came after it was so spectacular that people spontaneously applauded. Who needed fireworks, we had a natural light show!!

Grand Canyon.
The Grand Canyon (Hopi: Ongtupqa; Yavapai: Wi:kaʼi:la, Navajo: Tsékooh Hatsoh, Spanish: Gran Cañón) is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the state of Arizona in the United States. It is contained within and managed by Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Tribal Nation, the Havasupai people and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.
The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters). Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists, several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago. Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.
For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.

This is my wife's favorite of the photos that I took during our helicopter ride around Sedona, Arizona on January 24, 2023. In the foreground are the northern peak of Cathedral Rock, whose elevation is 4922 feet (1500 m), Cathedral Rock's middle prominences, and its southern peak, elevation 4955' (1510 m). Prominent landmarks on the horizon behind Cathedral Rock, with their respective elevations and distances from Cathedral Rock's northern peak, are (left-to-right): (#1) Apache Maid Mountain, elev. 7307' (2227 m), 15.7 mi (25.3 km); (#2) Courthouse Butte, elev. 5440' (1658 m), 3.0 mi (4.7 km); (#3) Round Mountain, elev. 6329' (1929 m), 12.1 mi (19.5 km); (#4) Hog Hill, elev. 6700' (2042 m), 14.9 mi (24.0 km); (#5) Yavapai Point, elev. 5246' (1599 m), 1.8 mi (2.9 km); (#6) Castle Rock, elev. 5258' (1602 m), 2.5 mi (4.0 km).

The presence of silver and copper has been known in the area around what is now Jerome since theSpanish colonial era when Arizona was part of New Sp
A mining town named Jerome was established on the side of Cleopatra Hill in 1883. It was named for Eugene Murray Jerome, a New York investor who owned the mineral rights and financed mining there. Eugene Jerome never visited his namesake town. Jerome was incorporated as a town on 8 March 1889. Local merchant and rancher William Munds was the first mayor. The town housed the workers in the nearby United Verde Mine, which was to produce over 1 billion dollars in copper, gold and silver over the next 70 years.
Jerome became a notorious "wild west" town, a hotbed ofprostitution, gambling, and vice. On 5 February 1903, the New York Sun proclaimed Jerome to be "the wickedest town in the West".
In 1915 the population of Jerome was estimated at 2,500.

This is one of the most wonderful destinations to visit. Looking west from the airport, one of the mountains west of Sedona, Yavapai Country, AZ.
The sun rising from Yavapai Point at the Grand Canyon. The sun peaking over the cliffs lasted for a few minutes before the snow storm set in. Yavapai point is a great location for sunrise providing many different vantage points.
Yavapai Point...located at main Village is probably the best place to watch sunrise at Grand Canyon. Many visitors start hiking as soon as 4:00 am to get there on time....Others drive or wait for Bus to join the party...

Another great view from the Grand Canyon National Park. This is the view to west from Yavapai Point Taken during sunset. This is one of the most popular locations on the south rim as it is the closes to the park visitor's center. Shooting it after sunset is a bit challenging as most of the canyon is way darker than the sky. I used a 0.9 Lee ND grad filter to get this, usually i never go above a 0.6 ND grad for sunsets.
Thanks for visiting hope you all have a great week ahead.
A powerful and inspiring landscape, Grand Canyon overwhelms our senses through its immense size.
Unique combinations of geologic color and erosional forms decorate a canyon that is 277 river miles (446km) long, up to 18 miles (29km) wide, and a mile (1.6km) deep.
The Grand Canyon is as much a symbol of America as it is an icon among national parks. Established 1919, the 1.2 million acre park is one of the most visited in the system, attracting almost 4.5 million visitors every year.
Close to the main South Rim visitor area, Yavapai point may provide one of the best panoramas of the inner Canyon, the Colorado River, and Bright Angel Canyon
As with all sides of the Canyon, the South Rim features astounding views of what took Mother Nature millions and millions of years to create. That's the reason why it has earned the distinction as one of the world's Seven Wonders.

This is one of those photos from that morning at the Grand Canyon. It doesn't really have any of the traits that would let it be posted into one of the themed groups. No fence. No tree. No wall. No bench. So it hadn't yet been uploaded to Flickr.
Its light and shadow made me smile as I came across it this morning, so here we are.
