"All Shook Up" is a song recorded by Elvis Presley in 1957. My oldest brother wasn't an Elvis fan and pointed out, "grammatically, it should be shaken up." I kept dancing and asked, "what do grammatically mean?"

Red Picacho, Arizona. Yavapai Co. Wickenburg area

The Grand Canyon (Hopi: Ongtupqa,[2] Yavapai: Wi:kaʼi:la, Navajo: Bidááʼ Haʼaztʼiʼ Tsékooh,[3][4] Spanish: Gran Cañón) is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in Arizona, United States. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,093 feet or 1,857 meters).[5]

The canyon and adjacent rim are contained within Grand Canyon National Park, the Kaibab National Forest, Grand Canyon–Parashant National Monument, the Hualapai Indian Reservation, the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Navajo Nation. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of the preservation of the Grand Canyon area and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery.

Nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted.[6] While some aspects about the history of incision of the canyon are debated by geologists,[7] several recent studies support the hypothesis that the Colorado River established its course through the area about 5 to 6 million years ago.[1][8][9] Since that time, the Colorado River has driven the down-cutting of the tributaries and retreat of the cliffs, simultaneously deepening and widening the canyon.

For thousands of years, the area has been continuously inhabited by Native Americans, who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves. The Pueblo people considered the Grand Canyon a holy site, and made pilgrimages to it.[10] The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.[11]

Our responsibility is to do what we can, learn what we can, improve the solutions, and pass them on :-)

Jerome Historic District ***

Yavapai County NRHP #6600019

The presence of silver and copper has been known in the area around what is now Jerome since theSpanish colonial era when Arizona was part of New Sp

A mining town named Jerome was established on the side of Cleopatra Hill in 1883. It was named for Eugene Murray Jerome, a New York investor who owned the mineral rights and financed mining there. Eugene Jerome never visited his namesake town. Jerome was incorporated as a town on 8 March 1889. Local merchant and rancher William Munds was the first mayor. The town housed the workers in the nearby United Verde Mine, which was to produce over 1 billion dollars in copper, gold and silver over the next 70 years.

Jerome became a notorious "wild west" town, a hotbed ofprostitution, gambling, and vice. On 5 February 1903, the New York Sun proclaimed Jerome to be "the wickedest town in the West".

In 1915 the population of Jerome was estimated at 2,500.

On Yavapai Point I made another attempt at star photography. This is a challenge to get right. I tried various ISO settings and illuminated the dead tree with a little Lumen light covered with several thicknesses of handkerchief. Not sure what is causing the light on the rim in lower left middle. Might be the lights of Page, Arizona. It's quiet after the sun goes down and all the tourists leave. The canyon is beautiful too, although you can barely see it. Will keep trying. Unfortunately, this is not the time of year to get the Milky Way. But it is still fun to shoot the stars.

and an occasional passing flicker of horror or indignation :-)

Have a glorious day, everyone...

Another lull in the snowstorm arrived at sunrise. The walkways were icy and extremely slippery. But I managed to find my way to my favorite tree at Yavapai Point in time for the sun to peak over the distant rim and light up the clouds.

Happy Saturated Saturday!

Female. This is one of the prettiest species I've ever photographed. Unfortunately, my photography skills were very poor back then. Looking back at that file now most of the shots are blurry because my setting were off. Anyway, I hope to see this species again for a do over. Yavapai County, AZ.

Unique bird of scrubby oak and mesquite habitats with a sleek body, shaggy crest, long tail, and staring red eyes. Males are shiny black with a bluish sheen; white wing patches visible in flight. Females and juveniles are ashy-gray. Often in small groups; forages mainly on berries (especially mistletoe).

Here Jasper stands on the steps of the Yavapai County Courthouse. Of course it says, "not a public entrance" on the sign above him, but as a member of the Arizona State Bar in good standing, Jasper can enter here. He's got a big case to try. We're sure he'll do well.
