Cleetwood Cove Trail is the only official trail to the shore of Crater Lake in Oregon.
The trail is 1.1 miles (1.8km) from the rim to the shore. It drops 700 feet (213m) in elevation. Walking back up is equivalent to climbing 65 flights of stairs.
The Beltex is a breed of heavily muscled domestic sheep. A portmanteau of Belgian and Texel, the name reflects the breed's origin as an offshoot of Texel sheep from the Netherlands.
It is a white faced sheep with medium-length wool. It is best known for its extremely heavy muscling, especially in the hindquarters. Rams on average weigh 90 kg (200 lb) and ewes 70 kg (150 lb) at maturity.

The fiery orange male Common Darter is holding on with his claspers just behind the back of the head of the female while she in turn hangs on to him tightly with her legs round his abdomen and places the tip of her abdomen against his secondary genitalia to collect the sperm needed for fertilising her eggs. The male had previously deposited the sperm there by curling his own tail up to where the tip of hers now is!
When this stage is finished, she removes her 'tail' but the male still hangs on to the back of her head with his 'tail claspers' and they dart around quickly and dance together to enable her to dip her 'tail' frequently into the pond to lay her eggs.
While the male is a showy orangey-red, the female has such a delicate combination of beautiful pale blues and greys, pinks and yellow.
I hope you get as much joy and wonderment from this photo as I do. Margaret

Heading down from the East side of the Owens Valley after leaving the bristle cone pine forest, I spotted these radio telescopes from CalTech. It was a beautiful, but cold and windy day as the first storm of the season rolled in later that afternoon.
