This is the x-ray of my leg on my last visit to the orthopedic surgeon. Although I have been back to work for awhile now he has finally declared me fit to stop seeing him unless I have a problem. The bones will continue to remodel themselves but everything is strong and stable enough for the time being. I find it both remarkable and a bit horrifying to know what can be done to fix broken bodies.
Shooting Stars: a Retrospective
The former bassist of Shooting Stars, the first Maldivian pop group looks back on the band's journey to stardom and the epic life of its founder Naibugey Shiham, still regarded as one of the finest guitarists in the country at the Hay Festival in Maldives.
A team led by researchers from the Argonne National Laboratory used the high-intensity, quick-burst X-rays provided by the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory to look at how the atoms in a molecule change when the molecule is bombarded with X-rays.

A massive xray machine hung from the soft ceiling of the old hospital. Among the clutter of equipment we found old xray cases and drawers of records.
During test shots on my 'new' homemade 4x5 camera, with a pair of stacked close up lenses as the prime lens, I shot a pair of images one on Ortho Lith and on on Kodak xray.
They were developed in the same 1:20 paper developer and this is the result.
Each was scanned as a colour positive and the ortho was toned slightly to match the xray scan.
This setup consists of a HD-S (high speed green) phosphor screen, and a 90kV, 15 milliamp real X-ray tube with a 1.5 amp 12 volt hot cathode.
I took the photo running the tube at 60kV and around 2 milliamps.
The exposure took 30 seconds, and the green phosphor shadow was post-processed to turn it into the more recognisable negative cyan X-ray transparency.
I use an old 20D camera because X-rays DO in fact damage CCD's as I found an increasing number of hot pixels on my new camera when I first started making X-ray images.
i wish i had a super-cool story to explain how i fractured my foot a couple of weeks ago. like "i was skiing and tumbled down the mountain." or "i went hiking and fell off the trail." maybe even "i kicked my boyfriend in the ass." nope. all i did was jump onto the sidewalk. ok, so my friends would say that i took a flying leap. maybe they're right. :-P
Ok, yes it is one of my more "bizarro" photos.....
It came about because my Mum had to go for x-rays today.
So I had this "brilliant" idea to take a photo of some of her previous x-rays (she has had spinal fusion as well as a hip replacement - what you see in this pic is her replacement hip joint).
Anyways, then when I was taking the pics, I thought, "perhaps some background in these pics would look interesting".
So this is the result - the best of a "bad" bunch.....couldn't quite get the effect I was after, but still so so I think....
The background you see is basically the street scape at the front of our house - and yes, spot the car! :-)
My dentist took xrays with this really cool USB dongle. Basically the "film" was a USB device that the computer immediately read in after the rays had been shot at my head.
Afterwards I asked if they could email them to me. Apparently that wasn't a common request.
The xray computers didn't have internet, but apparently they found some way to get it to one that did. One of the dental assistants actually had to send it to me with her hotmail account.
Some time spent photomerging... and TA-DAH! All my beautiful dental work on display.

These ferrets were thought to be extinct until a small group was found in Wyoming some years ago. Their primary prey is the prairie dog. Ranchers' efforts to kill off the prairie dogs, which dig holes that can break a cow's leg, left the ferrets without their primary prey. Diseases like distemper hit the starving ferrets with fatal illness.
Thanks to the zoo and efforts of other conservation organizations, the ferret is coming back, but its future remains uncertain.
Normal sternum with pronounced calcification of the costosternal ribs. This amount of calcification is unusual, in a 24 year old male patient. This is an example of a well visualized sternum, through conventional radiography. This particular exam is quite difficult to perform, and this level of visualization is rare.
