Running a reading campaign as National Library Week is right around the corner. Teens are taking a wrapped book to read! Once done, the student is to write a brief review to get others wanting to read the book. Using this newspaper clipping generator, the review looks like its from a real newspaper. These are then laminated and placed by the book throughout the library! Those participating in this project will join together to celebrate National Library Week in April for cake and punch. --There is something exciting about picking a "blind date" book! So far, so good--a great match per student!!! This is working! (A special thank you to a student library worker that found this idea on Pinterest and to a special friend who wrapped a couple dozen books for us!) ....and now I'm really wired!"
Dora had a blast on Christmas morning, playing with all the catnip toys and romping around in the tissue and wrapping paper!
This was a DIY for Earth Day on how to recycle and reuse gift wrap and tissue papers to line envelopes... for the how-to and a video with more pictures too visit the blog post: www.gavethat.com/2011/04/reusing-gift-wrap.html
the colors in this photo didn't turn out all that great; it's really light blue and red.

Today I got together with my friend Victoria to discuss some wedding/engagement plans, so I figured while we were hanging out why not do a shoot? We ended up going to the dollar store to get some things for the shoot. (ie. the background in this photo) We just played around a bit, and got some cute shots. This was one of my favorites.

I absolutely loved the kraft wrapping paper I got from Cost Plus World Market this year. It features happy winter scenes with deer, gnomes, owls and trees and it is insanely cute.
The pile of wrapping paper in the middle of the room. This is before we were entirely finished, but right after I got my digital camera.

See the notebook paper folded up and tucked under the top present. Georgia calls that a "gift card" and likes to make one to go with every present we wrap. Especially for her friends. This time she even attached a russian nesting doll type key chain some kid in her class gave her. She said because someone else gave it to her she should give it away too.
While everyone was at work or not in town yet, my job today was to wrap last presents for my dad, sister, brother-in-law and great-uncle. I had a grand scheme for wrapping this present for my sister, but time kind of made me wrap it simply for the sake of having it wrapped. After my dad came home, and my sister and brother-in-law came in from St. Cloud, we all went to Christmas mass, met up with Mum there, and then came back and unwrapped presents.
Yeah, my Christmas tradition is that we (my parents, me, Tess, and now Steve) unwrap presents at our house on Christmas Eve and then we go to family on Christmas Day. It was always my mom's side of the family, but with recent years, my dad has been spending part of the day with his mom, and of course Tess is now planning time with Steve's family. Anyway, tomorrow Mum and I will be at my grandparents' farm for presents, food, & games with them.
I've shared the feeling with others that it doesn't feel like it's Christmas season. Part of it definitely has to do with being at college (not having boxes of Christmas tapes to dive into, being away from home until right beforehand). Then again, with the exception of Christmas presents in a pile in the living room and Christmas music/tapes/DVD's on the radio/TV, the house hadn't changed at all. It is understandable, what with Tess and me gone, my mother working in retail, and my dad in state government... it's just... different.
Of course, spending time with Mom, Dad, Tess, and Steve did feel great and Christmas-y. I ended up getting various DVD's, Guitar Hero III, Stubbs the Zombie, and various other things... including a tin can full of half dollar coins! That certainly was frickin' heavy (especially for its size).
In case I don't upload before tomorrow, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!
