I spun a skein from a natural fleece which, to me, looked rather like string! I didn't like it and so I decided to overdye it at our Spinning Group's dyeing day this year.
I wanted to have varied shades in both the yarn and the fibre (the fibre itself contained varied shades as well). I made up a 2% solution of Jacquard Russet. Vaguely basing my method on the hot-pour dye method in the Twised Sisters Sock Workbook, I used a fifth of the solution watered down for a paler depth of shade, three-fifths straight for a deep shade, and one fifth with some Teri dyes black R added for a dark shade. I poured the pale shade on first, waited for ten minutes or so until that was almost exhausted, poured the next one and so on.
I am very, very pleased with the results as they are almost exactly how I wanted them to be!
Here is the yarn I made during my spinning demonstration today at Cottage Yarn in Mint Hill, NC.
I used some "Confetti Wool" roving I won on eBay from Copper Moose Productions. So soft and beautiful!
The first yarn I sold on Etsy =) It's a yummy, vibrant wool blend, spun and plied on my drop spindle.
The locally produced wool was slightly itchy, so I knit in a cashmere/merino liner (left over from Halfdome hats)
my super thin yarn. the colors are gorgeous! hopefully i can start spinning a better thin single for the socks i don't know how to knit yet.

i made this hat start to finish in 6 hours. the pattern was really fun. the only mod i made was to shorten the brim ribbing by half, as i have a large noggin. hats with folded brims fit too snuggly for me. if i did it again, i'd only do 10 rows of ribbing. the hat is slightly too long, but comfortably snug. made from knitpicks wool of the andes, 2 skeins.
This is my first Calorimetry. I made it out of some stash wool on my size 0 needles, which is why it turned out so small. I then dyed it with blue food coloring; the stripes form the first 40 digits of the number e in binary when read from buttonhole to button.
Mystical Creation Yarns wool/silk in "Exotic"
I'm using 3 skeins of this stuff for a clapotis. I bought the third skein after the first two and it's quite darker than they are. To try to mask this problem, once I get to the straight rows, I'll start alternating the darker skein with the lighter skein.
This is half of my first handspun yarn purchase, and its so soft I can't believe it. I can't wait to knit this yarn.
Merino cross, silk, silk noil. 2.4 oz, 72 yds super bulky. Thick and thin singles plied and coiled with merino/silk commercial laceweight.
Christmas gift for my future mother in law. Knit with Knit Picks Wool of the Andes. I'm working on the matching mittens now.
I am planning to use these two hanks of laceweight vintage wool yarn in two shades of red for a Shallowtail Shawl (Interweave Knits, Fall 2006). It is a pattern I have been dreaming about and I hope it will work out as I plan.
