Yesterday I went to see the heksenwaag (= a weigthing scale for people that are said to be a witch). This waag was being used from the 1400's till the 1800's. Making a witch prop using a paper mache mannequin with stand I purchased at a thrift store. Head I used a Styrofoam mannequin head I just turned it into a witch. Costume I just had laying around I might use another later or add to it

The cut and sew panel was easy to do. I wasn't sure whether I had to stuff her or not, so I tried both ways. I decided stuffing was much better for her. The hair was made out of raffia. I particularly liked the black and orange stockings with the black shoes. She has got a wart on her nose and the hat is stuffed once again with a spiders web on the outside and a purple band.

Ellezelles is the center of "Pays des Collines", a landscape of hills in the southern part of Belgium where the ghost of Quintine de la Glisserie (a witch burned in 1610) is still wandering around.

Witches of Ellezelles.
Ellezelles is the center of "Pays des Collines", a landscape of hills in the southern part of Belgium where the ghost of Quintine de la Glisserie (a witch burned in 1610) is still wandering around.
Witch hazel is grown in a number of gardens here in the Isle of Man. The most common form is the yellow as seen here, but there are some red cultivars too. Nice to see in full flower on a cold winter's day!
