A neighborhood witch

Who knew? Our neighbourhood letter carrier is apparently a witch. Here's the proof!

The Witches' Memorial in Vardø takes us back to a gruesome period in European history and into the darkest recesses of the human mind. The Steilneset Memorial was erected in memory of 91 victims of the witch trials held in Finnmark during the 17th century.

Witch Hobble leaves are among my favorite because of their many varieties of fall color. Great Smoky Mountains National Park, North Carolina.

This is a Witch's Desk I "conjured up" this week. Take a close look at the Gargoyle Mail-holder and the Skull Inkwell.

Another shot of my WiP "Haunted MOC, this was a tester for the lighting beneath the Witches cauldron. I'm happy with it.

We have two different Witch Hazels in our garden, purchased last year and planted in large containers. The photographs of the flowers were taken in December 2016.

The witch-hazels are deciduous shrubs growing to 10–25 feet tall. The leaves are alternately arranged, oval, 2–6 inches long and 1–4 inches broad, with a smooth or wavy margin. he genus name, Hamamelis, means "together with fruit", referring to the simultaneous occurrence of flowers with the maturing fruit from the previous year. Each flower has four slender strap-shaped petals 3⁄8–3⁄4 inch long, pale to dark yellow, orange, or red. The fruit is a two-part capsule 3⁄8 inch long, containing a single 1⁄4 inch glossy black seed in each of the two parts; the capsule splits explosively at maturity in the autumn about 8 months after flowering, ejecting the seeds with sufficient force to fly for distances of up to 30 feet, thus another alternative name "Snapping Hazel".

The name Witch in Witch Hazel has its origins in Middle English wiche, from the Old English wice, meaning "pliant" or "bendable". The use of the twigs as divining rods, just as hazel twigs were used in England, may also have, by folk etymology, influenced the "witch" part of the name. (Source: Wikipedia)

Witch cosplay, perfect make up! Do you like?

I found the Witch once again, down in the "canyon" cut by McCormicks Creek. It is such an interesting plant !! The shrub blossoms in late October and early November - just when all the other trees of the woodland have shed their leaves. The yellow petals of the blossom are tightly rolled and slowly extend to about 3/4". The blossoms are fragrant and pollinated by moths.

Witch Hazel is the source of a strong astringent. Most users probably have never seen a Hitch Hazel growing.

It is a good image for clicking on it to zoom. The flower is rather unusual.

Let's have a little Fungi!

Tremella mesenterica (witches butter) is a common jelly fungus.

“Protection” Witch Bottle.

As symbols of protection I used: salt, dill, black pepper (peas and ground), ginger, dried nettle leaves, lemon peel, pins and needles, rowan berries, sage leaves, red thread, hand-made pentagram.

Every time I put an ingredient inside the bottle I said:

”___ that protects, protect my home and all within”.

Witch's Nest is a small pocket in Pennsylvanian age Warren Point Sandstone. It is decorated with numerous faint prehistoric petroglyphs. The age of this artwork is unknown. The site has been know for many years and it has suffered some modern abuse. Someone tried to remove a section of decorated wall, without success I imagine. The sandstone, in the pocket, is very soft making it a good media for carving but it would crumble if chiseled on.
