I went for a little walk yesterday morning and came across this path that I'd somehow missed before. I knew, then, that I would have to come back later. So I thought of doing a bit of light painting; it had been a while since the last time, after all.

I waited for it to get dark (which, at this time of the year, takes ages at these latitudes) and got back to the path. It was raining, but I didn't want to let that ruin anything, so I brought a little plastic bag with me to protect the camera. It actually worked. Unfortunately it also made it a bit harder to use the camera, as if trying to compose and focus in the dark wasn't challenging enough to begin with. My trusty old flashlight helped quite a lot, though. ^^

A wisp of smoke swirls above a candle in a prayer area at the Fushimi Inari shrine in Kyoto, Japan.

Can feel the chill in the air as once more Autumn sneaks up on us. Bringing with it a powerful feeling of change, crispy colours under foot, cold drawn breaths under the sun, tingling fingertips and the chimney smoke aroma filling your lungs as you day dream of a hot mug'a and a curl around the fire. No season matches its splendor. If your feeling supportive give me a 'Like' on Facebook > www.facebook.com/pages/Tom%C3%A1s-Mc-Kenna-Photography/33... Thanks.

It is amazing how such a mammoth tree whose limbs are as big as the trunk of another tree puts out these slender strands that move with such graceful ease in the slightest breeze. I will never tire of this sight.

...series continued from previous post...

In between the big February snowstorm and even the bigger March snowstorm, I visited my favorite weeping willow tree to see if it had begun its springtime awakening. We had roller coaster temperature shifts and some plants had begun to poke out of the ground. It was late afternoon with an overcast sky and snow was on its way again. I love hanging out with this tree.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

(Flickr sharpened the hell out of this, just view it large or in lightbox for a decent view)

A shot from an adventure to a big abandoned train tunnel that was home to thousands of glow worms (none of which were harmed in the shooting of this photo.)

I always keep an eye on the Aurora "just in case" it ever gets strong enough to see in Jersey. It rarely does, but last night I read that there was a solar flare and a possible geomagnetic storm with a kp index of over 8. In NJ the kp needs to be between 7 and 9 for the Aurora to be visible. I jumped in my car and went to the darkest area I know around here, Collier's Mills. Still have a ton of light pollution, but its the best I can do in my area. I could see faint colors of green and pink in the sky, but wasn't even sure of what I was seeing. The camera picked up more than what I could see. This is the first time I have ever even seen any sign of the Aurora

If you need to fall asleep on a plane, make sure it's not during sunrise or sunset. Because this could happen, and you'd miss it.

Image made with my Nikon F100.

I shot this during a really nice sunny (and partly cloudy) day a few days back. I was standing on our small balcony and just couldn't believe how cool the clouds were. I chucked my Contax Zeiss on shot at 35mm f/8.0. A B&W conversion seemed a must and then a few tweaks here and there to the contrast etc. I quite like the result.

On a different tack it feels like the longest day after 12 hours at work. Marking takes it out of you, especially when teaching in between! And people say teachers have it easy....

Беги, всё, что в тебе есть, тебе делает боль

An emerging pinesap flower rises from the needles and detritus like a breath of flame. Oh how I love these elusive wildflowers. OM 90mm at probably f 5.6.

Thought I'd post something besides a bird. Just for a change. I am getting the hang of my new and heavy toy. Monopod. That's the best thing so far. Getting clearer and clearer shots, and can move around for better creativity. Happy.
