Birth store is all decked out in snow and Christmas decorations, and in the spirit of the giving season
we have a very magical snow themed freebie
"Icy Magic"
Two snow themed magical effects.
A hand conjured huge spinning snowflake.
And an eternally orbiting bundle of wisps that leaves a streaming circular trail of sparkles.
Tp on down to Birth!
The house we are renting is right across from the ski resort. The picture above was taken as I returned from a morning walk on Friday. As we were finishing dinner last night, we saw a red glow and ran back up to the pond for a better look, just in time to catch the tail end of this magical sky. HCS!
A series of lenticular clouds sail over the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, catching the fire of the sun before it sinks below the far horizon. For scale the highest peak below the cloud is Longs Peak, 14,259 ft (4346 m), which rises 2700 m (8800 ft) above the plain in the bottom of the frame.
Lenticular clouds usually form when moist air is lifted by mountains and forms saucer-shaped clouds. The Continental Divide creates bands of these clouds, unlike the isolated peaks in the Pacific northwest (e.g. Rainier) that give the more isolated layered clouds.
Sometimes air from "fatuus" or foolish sources in DC will sail across the continent, creating what is known as "Ignis fatuus" or will o' wisp, a phenomenon of phantom light in the early part of the night. This particular display seemed to coincide with the idea that a wall brings added security, and that behaving like a petulant child would get you what you want. Another "alternative" science fact for you!
I love this girl, especially her eyelids and lips. I might rechip her though. I was thinking light blue. Opinions?

... even the slightest signs give me hope!
A short wander off trail. Lake Ashtabula is off in the distance, outlined with an embankment on the opposite side.
Up and beyond the embankment are rolling prairie hills containing pasture land, fading into cropland and farmsteads. The "prairie pothole region." There are so many interesting features along this area of the river: unique geological features and both historical or culturally significant areas.
Also a simply beautiful and therapeutic area to take in during the summer months. ☀️

Izzy & I spent saturday morning in the forest. The wisp of blue is thanks to one of my favourite things, Revolog film :)

I've been stuck in all day due the the boring grey weather! After getting thoroughly fed up being indoors, I had a trip to Allerthorpe Wood to find a shot not particularly light dependant.
Here's one I ended up with.

I just loved how is hair caught in the low winter sunlight here. A previously unpublished image from October 2019. Enjoy!
Sincere thanks to [https://www.flickr.com/photos/50313616@N03] , as I now know these cloud formations are referred to as "Mares’ Tails~
These are cirrus uncinus clouds formed by Mares_tailice crystals in the upper troposphere. They get their name from their fluffy elongated shape that indicates strong winds at high altitudes – a sure sign of an approaching weather front.

And true to its predictions, Connecticut experienced a weather front two days later (remnants of Hurricane Barry from the Gulf of Mexico) with lightning, thunder and downpours.
