This is a picture I took of Amtrak 17's reflection as it crossed the Wisconsin River leaving the Wisconsin Dells. Than I flipped it to make it appear upright. Now it looks like it is entering the Dells.

The third scenic highlight L863 encounters on it's way back to Madison is the Wisconsin River Bridge at Merrimac. At one time, this was a deep valley, and the bridge you see here soared over the Wisconsin River. However, a dam was built near Prairie Du Sac flooded the valley and made this artificial lake called Lake Wisconsin. Thus, the bridge piers that were once above water were now submerged. This has caused quite the headaches for B&B and MOW crews on the CNW and WSOR alike.

This past year I have had a unique and rare opportunity to train and get up close to these majestic birds! Every single time I handle or hold an eagle my heart is pounding with excitement and pure happiness with enormous amount of respect and admiration for them!

The new spans are beneath the fourth thru eighth cars of the train. The 100+-year old removed spans can been seen on the far shore in the right portion of the photo.
