After some nice ice climbing in Ruka it's time to stare into the forest.

I like this more as I look at it again but it didn't qualify as Bev's perfect tree shot! The light was fading fast and I trudged through knee deep snow to grab these few shots!

Clumps of snow melting and falling off trees. This photo has not been digitally sharpened..the ice covring branches and grasses sparkled in the bright sun.

Winter Wonderland written in 1934 by Felix Bernard (composer)

and Richard B. Smith (lyricist).

There are lots of interpretations. Here comes Pat Boone:

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,

In the lane, snow is glistening

A beautiful sight,

We're happy tonight.

Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,

Here to stay is a new bird

He sings a love song,

As we go along,

Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,

Then pretend that he is Parson Brown

He'll say: Are you married?

We'll say: No man,

But you can do the job

When you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,

As we dream by the fire

To face unafraid,

The plans that we've made,

Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,

And pretend that he's a circus clown

We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,

Until the other kids knock him down.

When it snows, ain't it thrilling,

Though your nose gets a chilling

We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way,

Walking in a winter wonderland.

A Fieldfare Feasting on my crab apples during a rare winter snowstorm. The fieldfare is a member of the thrush family Turdidae. Photo taken through my window in Hertfordshire a couple of years ago.

We have a castle in my hometown of Garstang. Well, a bit of a castle. All that remains of Greenhalgh Castle, built in 1490, is the remains of one of the corner towers.

Nicht lange mehr ist Winter,

Schon glänzt der Sonne Schein,

Dann kehrt mit neuen Liedern

Der Frühling bei uns ein.

Im Felde singt die Lerche,

Der Kuckuck ruft im Hain:

Kuckuck, Kuckuck,

Da wollen wir uns freu'n!

This is another shot taken the last time I went to Great Swamp NWR. I have others that I will be posting soon. I chose this one because of the tree reflections.

>>> THE SUN HERE FELT LIKE A MENACE AS IT WAS SEEMINGLY LINGERING IN THE FRONT DOORWAY, TRYING TO FORCE ITS WAY IN. SPENDING A LOT OF TIME SHOOTING THE SUN, AND REMAINING ACTIVELY INTERESTED IN HELIOPHYSICS, I KNEW THE SUN CAN BE BOTH BEAUTIFUL AND SIGNIFICANTLY VIOLENT... BUT CREEPY? OH, THIS WAS SHOT WITH A CHEAP LOGITECH WEBCAM AND A SHARD OF WELDER'S GLASS NO. 9, ATTACHED WITH RUBBER BANDS [WHICH IS AMUSIMNG, AS IS ME BEING CREEPED OUT AND SHOOTING REMOTELY FROM INSIDE ON A LAPTOP ;-}.

I CONVERT WEBCAMS AND OLD SECURITY INSTRUMENTS INTO WEATHER CAMS, USUALLY FOR THUNDERSTORMS. LATELY, THE LATE AFTERNON SUN HAS REALLY TRAPPED AND SEIZED MY ATTENTION. SO, I'VE SUBSEQUENTLY PLAYED AROUND WITH SHOOTING VIDEOS AND STILLS USING A RANGE OF FILTERS (AND RUBBER BANDS, GRAVITY... TILT THE CAM, THEN LET THE GLASS LEAN..... VERY HIGH TECH OPERATION ;-}. "I MAKE MY OWN FUN."
