Whenever I look at this image, it makes me think a lot... Took this shot at "1880 Town" South Dakota in 2006. Since I love this one very much, I made it B&W again (the first one that I put on my flicker about 2 years ago was too small (600X400)), besides I am not happy with the result. So I deleted it and did it again. Push "L" to see the large one.

Whenever I see birds meticulously preening in the morning, I hear Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick singing:

"When you wake up in the morning

Rub some sleep from your eye

Look inside your mirror

Comb your hair..."

Royal Spoonbill (Platalea Regia) at 6:49 AM.

Whenever I look at SD from the top of the roof, I can't help but think of this city being built out of Legos.

Whenever I see a Green Heron posed like this during or after preening, I can't help but see a little Tom Turkey.

Do you see it too?

Whenever you find yourself

doubting how far you can go,

just remember how far you

have come,

Remember

everything you have faced,

all the battles you have won

and all the fears you have overcome....

Whenever I can approach dragonflies, I always like to observe them and to watch them snacking on their prey. After taking tons of photos of her, I couldn’t help saying, "Be my pet." Then the dragonfly nodded her head twice. Oh my, what a coincidence and what a lovely experience!

Whenever...

Wherever...

we're meant to be together.

Whenever I am out in the wilderness or parks, I try to pick up at least one piece of trash. While out hunting voles, she also picks up trash!

Whenever I see waxwings it seems like the robins come in and try to scare them away. They both like fruit and I don't think the robins like the waxwings invading their supplies.

I want to feel your skin against mine….

your breath caressing my neck …

your warmth embracing my senses like the sun’s golden rays….

this, my element, as i and my desires blossom

and thrive like natures foliage…

vibrant and steadfast in the wind….

my in between season ….

of need and desiring you.

Whenever I'm in town and have some time between errands and appointments, I head down under the Colorado River bridge north of Moab, Utah to find the day's light treasure.

Whenever I'm having a hard day, Sophie comes in and finds her way to my side- like someone sent her a text to come find me...

Whenever you stumble across a track in the mountains, there's usually a river winding away nearby. Such is the case for the Cranbrook sub south of Moyie Lake, where it follows the Moyie river all the way to the US border at Kingsgate. CP 419 with CP 7016 leading is all done their work at Tochty (after waiting hours for 416 to work it) and is on the move towards Yahk and eventually Kingsgate where the train will cross the border onto the UP.

Whenever my garden starts loosing its colouful vitality and energy, and the lawn starts becoming multocolored by fallen leaves and petals, at the beginning of Autumn, I feel really down, because my garden starts its pre-hibernation period…

….But, on the other hand, it is really amazing how certain plants STILL go on blooming, independently of rains and negative météo, generally…

Here they are some, and very photogenic, I must say!!! 😊😊❤️❤️

Whenever you're walking out of a forest in the Netherlands this might be what you see, Bergse Heide in the south west near Bergen op Zoom.

Whenever I am at Presidents Park I see this resident White Faced Heron. Yesterday was the first time I managed to get a shot of it in flight.

Whenever I see this while walking through a local parkette/sculpture garden I'm thinking of a 'Ground Control to Major Tom' kind of thing.

Whenever we stay in the north-west I inevitably get asked to pay a visit to Morecambe. Judy just loves wandering around, looking at whatever little independent shops might be left.

Morecambe was once one of the UK's leading seaside resorts, but the days of beach holidays in England seemed to be over until the Covid lockdowns and the subsequent problems going abroad. A lot more people are now staying in this country, so things might look up for the old traditional seaside towns.

The was taken from the stone pier which once had a railway line running along it to the ferry terminus for boats to Scotland and Ireland. Those days are long gone.

Whenever I'm out photographing a well known landscape feature, I always look around and try to get images other than the most popular view. Those views may not have as awesome a feature that nature has created, but the views can still be interesting. This image at the Fire Wave is made on the side opposite of the wave feature. Such photos can serve as "documentation" of the local geology and landscape that some might ignore.

Whenever I feel down, seeing this face lifts me up again.

Whenever I find a broken piece of plant, I find a spot to replant it and give it a second chance. I planted such a piece of red Kalanchoe in the blue glazed ceramic pot where I grow Strawberries and couldn't resist capturing it as its first flower opened :)

Whenever we visit Dauset Trails we simply have to spend time at their Lotus Pond. Usually there are tons of lotus flowers and water lilies, but this time there were only water lilies.

So, this trip we focused on the water lilies. Oh, and the frogs. I was totally on "frog alert" but as usual - they were on "human alert".

After standing in the sun for ages, waiting for them to reappear, as they always vanish whenever we arrive, I finally just started taking photos of the lilies. Later, when going through my photos to delete the bad ones, I spotted these two little ones hiding in plain sight - more or less behind and in front of the white lily. Can you see them?

Whenever we head to the Gorge we stop at Latourell Falls my favorite of a series at the western end of the Gorge.

Whenever I come to this garden, I bring some bird food for robin. It seems he is starting to recognize me ...

Thank you all for visits, faves and comments!

Whenever I take this bendy road to or from La Carnelle, my eye is drawn to this old barn. Here it is in colour (previously in October 2022 a toned B/W)

Whenever I see snow I still get the same simple thrill which reaches right back to childhood. I used to stare up at the sky tracing where the snowflakes come and go. I voluntarily went to bed early in winters in the hope of being the first one to wake up in a white wonderland.

No matter how much I have seen and experienced, my original joy of the snow stays intact, only gets intensified every time when the snowflakes flutter from the sky and reunite with my memories of childhood.

whenever someone who knows you disappears, you lose one version of yourself. yourself as you were seen, as you were judged to be. lover or enemy, mother or friend, those who know us construct us, and their several knowings slant the different facets of our characters like diamond-cutter's tools. each such loss is a step leading to the grave, where all versions blend and end.

Kiss the rain

Whenever I'm gone too long

If your lips feel lonely and thirsty

Kiss the rain

And wait for the dawn

Keep in mind

We're under the same sky

And the night's

As empty for me as for you

“WHENEVER the Presbyterian bell

Was rung by itself, I knew it as the Presbyterian bell.

But when its sound was mingled

With the sound of the Methodist, the Christian,

The Baptist and the Congregational,

I could no longer distinguish it,

Nor any one from the others, or either of them.

And as many voices called to me in life

Marvel not that I could not tell

The true from the false,

Nor even, at last, the voice that

I should have known.”

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

Whenever I review the blessings received while visiting Custer State Park a year ago this month, I am still as overwhelmed as I was while I there and receiving them! Finding myself alone and in proximity of a bachelor group of Bighorn Sheep has been a definite top 10 wildlife encounters of my life…thus far!

I have no idea how their hieratical system works, but did find it amazing how this lad took it upon himself to be the gatekeeper for the group. When I first drove up on them crossing the road, he stood facing me as if a statue, as the others trotted past. Once I got out of the car and approached the group, he moved off the road and joined the group. As others grazed, he remained vigilant at his post, keeping his eyes on me and his ears on the rest of the group as they moved up the rugged rock hill towards the high country of the park.

He never seemed alarmed or anxious…not that a kid from Indiana would know what that looked like…so I just slowly and methodically closed the gap between us to improve the lighting.

When they finally grazed themselves up behind a large rock outcropping, I knew my photo session had concluded. While climbing back into my vehicle, I looked at the clock and discovered that I had been out there with them alone for just over 30 minutes…without another vehicle coming by to ruin the encounter…a true blessing in itself!

Should God’s plan for me ever place me in a nursing home for any period of time, besides tons of family photos, I would hope to have a shot of this lad on my wall. The memory of our time, man to man looking into each other’s eyes at such close range will always be special.

Chasing this guy around the wetlands at Alviso, trying to get up close enough for some good pics. Whenever I got too close for his comfort, he took off and the chase was on again. Managed to get a few good shots of him though.

Whenever I go into the forest I take my backpack with me to collect things I find interesting, such as leaves and flowers of plants I don't know, some stones of interesting morphology among other things.

It is also important to dress appropriately, loose clothing and a wide-brimmed hat to protect me from the sun.

On this trip, almost at dusk of the day, I came across a waterfall and as I was thirsty I went to drink a little, the water was cool and comforting. I hope to return to the same spot another time.

Whenever in the mountains you have to watch out for avalanches and the best thing you can do is take an avalanche course. I always carry my beacon, probe and shovel as they can be unpredictable.

Here's an avalanche video taken in the Canadian Rockies, the comments are hilarious.
