Whenever I took a shot here I just wanted to yell "Mannnnnyyy!" Do you feel the same way looking at it? If you know, you know...
Anyway, here again is the Anchorage to Whittier 120S freight behind a matched brace of GP40-2s in matching modern paint on a gray late winter day. They are emerging from the 5050 ft Bear Valley Tunnel at MP F5.7 on the Whittier Branch and crossing cold Placer Creek that flows into Portage Lake. The Whittier yard is only five miles ahead of them, a full half of that which will be underground as they pass through the Alaska Railroad's longest tunnel, the 2.5 mile long dual rail/road Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel.

Well there's always a story whenever we press the shutter
isn't there ?
Well the one behind this had a happy ending at least. Jonathan bought me the tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III DXD (model A056) telephoto zoom for Christmas. On bringing it downstairs on Christmas Eve to place under the tree he dropped it from halfway down the stairs whence it bounced from step to step before crash landing onto the wooden hall floor. Better than a broken leg (as I thought wholly possible from the noise )
Well I gathered my wits and tried it out for the first time yesterday in my front room before going a short walk. Unfortunately it had started raining before we even left the car -we still went a walk which in dull dank conditions yielded nothing photographically but I downloaded the few pics anyway to see if anything appeared damaged. Happily no apparent damage and to my amusement I spotted a selfie of myself and my dog Beau right in the centre of a bauble. Taken at the long end of the zoom at f/2.8 I am so far quite pleased as hadn't even been taking macro shots indoors as felt too awful. I loved that the bauble framed the room so perfectly in the center when I had actually been trying for the glittery bauble so had no idea about the selfie.luckily far enough away for me not to hate my own reflection lol...just a test shot but the first in a long while so quite cheering :)
“Traveling is not just seeing the new; it is also leaving behind.
Not just opening doors; also closing them behind you, never to return.
But the place you have left forever is always there for you to see whenever you shut your eyes.”

Whenever we go to Tintagel we invariably park our car on the cliff-top next to the church and then walk along the coast path to "The Island" and what remains of Tintagel Castle (not much!). That way we avoid the crowds and the busy car park in the village centre. You can walk up to the village from the castle if you want to visit the Old Post Office - a lovely old medieval house that is owned by the National Trust - but otherwise there is not much there to attract us.
If King Arthur ever existed it was probably around the fifth century after the Roman occupation had ended, but the castle whose scant remains we can see wasn't built until the 13th century. We do however know that there was a high status settlement here that traded with Mediterranean countries in the late Roman period. So who knows?
Whenever I have a camera in my hand and I hear a plane overhead, I reflexively point the camera skyward and click. I don't really know why I do it because 95% of the time the shots don't turn out and, anyway, it's not like I'm a big fan of planes or anything.
As I look at this plane I think of how this time last year I was thinking of taking a trip to the UK this fall. Then CoVid came along. I'm not sure if I will ever be willing to fly again for when I look at this I cannot imagine sitting crammed into a seat with a bunch of people crammed in around me. :-/
Whenever I shoot on the beach, I always take a few ICM shots. Of course, the most spectacular shots can be taken at sunrise and sunset and since we don't see the sun setting directly on our house beach, I tend to take early morning photo walks. At the moment it is cloudy more often than there is open sky, but on Christmas Day the sunrise showed its best side. I had to get out at a quarter to six, but then I went to bed again.
Whenever I have nothing, a walk around the pond generally gives up something...there always seems to be a vision worth stealing. Been a little distracted as of late...retirement looming...wasting time on Instagram...living life small.

Whenever you get a chance to visit the Trevi Fountain in Rome, don't forget to bring a few coins to toss into the fountain of love and fortune.
When you approach the fountain, simply turn around, pick up one coin and toss it over your left shoulder ... or is it the right shoulder ... ok toss another over the other just to be safe :)
According to legend, tossing one coin into the Trevi Fountain means you'll return to The Eternal City (Rome), tossing two coins means you'll return and fall in love, and tossing three coins means you'll return, find love, and marry...
This is a hard fountain to capture in one frame so I used a Sigma 10-20 mm at full width and then Photoshop to straighten the benz ;)
I think it turned out well although the shading could be improved on the inside...
Hope you enjoy!
Whenever i see, loves sweet light
Filling my mornings and the night
I think of you , so far away
In my dreams, you always stay
A vision of beauty, queen of the sweets
One thought of you and my heart it leaps
Every morning, every night
Filled with loves tender light
That rises up to my skies
As your beauty shines in my eyes
Whenever we travel, we get a fridge magnet. However, since they don't stick to our new refrigerator, I have a magnetic bulletin board I put them on. Area photographed is 3 in wide x 2.25 in tall.

Whenever we go away to our condo in the Berkshires we do lots of woods walks with the dogs. Della enjoys recharging her batteries on a sunny spot on the bed.

Whenever I get in touch with nature for a period of time I feel like we have more in common with animals than we think. I noticed the shadow of this plant resembles tiger stripes and took advantage of it
Whenever I take this drive up into the hills by Chase BC, on the return drive coming down I always stop at this point to take in this wonderful view. There are two homes roughly in this area, many kilometers from anyone else, built to get this wonderful view. Their views of the sunset must be wonderful as this is looking westward.
Whenever I cross Dartmoor on my way down to my holiday home near Looe I invariably pass this old granite quarry on the western side of the moor. Some of the rocks appear to be piled very precariously on the side of the road, but they haven't moved yet! The white buildings to the right of centre include the Dartmoor Inn, which has been closed for quite some time. In this area are a number of prehistoric remains, and the group of monuments at Merrivale is one of the finest on the moor. Side by side here are the remains of a Bronze Age settlement and a complex of ritual sites, including three stone rows, a stone circle, standing stones and a number of cairns – earth mounds associated with burials. The monuments were probably built over a long period, between about 2500 BC and 1000 BC.
Whenever I see the name Colyton I always think of the school that invariably appears in the top ten list of English schools. It is also the last stop on the famous Seaton Tramway that runs alongside the River Axe from Seaton. But until a couple of weeks ago I had never been to Colyton itself. It is actually a charming little village in East Devon. We parked by the ancient packhorse bridge and I walked up into the village. One of the first buildings I came across was the beautiful old thatched cottage known as Chantry Cottage. This has a date stone of 1664 and according to British Listed Buildings it was subsequently remodelled in around 1800. Details of the Grade II-listed building can be found at britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101170448-chantry-cottagethe....
Whenever we are outside Tyson usually manages to get his ball out and doesn't give up till we play with ball with him.
Whenever I show people my photographs, this one always gets a lot of attention. I think reflections like this have a built-in "ooooohhhh" factor...but I tend to like shots that you have to ponder a little more to appreciate. Still, I'm very happy with this one. There was minimal post-processing.

Whenever I visit the Telluride area I make sure to visit this location along the Last Dollar Road. Never Disappoints!
Whenever the sun comes out Pixie loves to scoot up this tree and leap onto the roof - even if it's only just above freezing. She soon comes back indoors though !
Whenever I watch big cats they remind me so much on my kitties at home - mimicry, behaviour.. it's really fascinating.

Whenever I visit Attenborough Nature Reserve I keep my photographic eyes open for the possibility of interesting reflections. Lighting conditions are everything at this location because there are so few discernible focal points with which to make an image. This was one of those breaking dawns that did not quite live up to its early promise. However, the mist on the far bank helped to add some atmosphere.
Whenever I see one of the local Anna's hummingbirds showing the brilliance of its gorget I run for the camera. This bird was perched on the feijoa bush in our back yard in Berkeley, CA.
Whenever God shines his light on me
Opens up my eyes so I can see
When I look up in the darkest night
And I know everything's going to be alright
In deep confusion, in great despair
When I reach out for him he is there
When I am lonely as I can be
And I know that God shines his light on me...
--Van Morrison.

Whenever I need you
You answer my cares
With your presence
Any time anywhere
With you everything
Is in perfect balance
As above
So below
You are the dark
And the light
Together the right
Shade
Even the inside
Matches the outside
Where your soul
Resides
Everything around me
Becomes still
But full of love
And so very real
This cup's beauty and presence allows you to take a deep breath and let the tensions fade away.
We found ourselves in Wilmington Church, and I placed it on the window sill, in a restored part of the church that was destroyed by fire in the recent past.

Whenever I’m swamped by a wave I’ve always instinctively with one hand on the tripod taken the photo. It can be very disorientating when the wave whooshes round the calfs and the balance goes with the wave as the stones and pebbles rollback to the sea, but it can be the moment of most drama and if you’ve managed to stop any camera movement the better image.
Whenever I take the grandkids to their Junior School I can’t help but notice these lonely benches at the junction of Crown and Trent Streets., Worksop in Nottinghamshire. They are always empty! Put in a ridiculous position, in the middle of an estate of low income senior citizens bungalows, they never appear to have anyone sitting there!
The old people usually sit in their gardens and avoid these benches. This is not the sort of neighbourhood where people are apt to take walks either.
Why the planners stick the benches in odd places like this is mystifying! Maybe it looked good on the original plans?
