Whenever I get near yachts, I feel like singing Rod Stewart's "Sailing", a great favourite of mine. This poor old thing at Scarborough, Redcliffe gets featured regularly for the wrong reasons. It seems to have been abandoned and always looks forlorn, especially at low tide but it is not beyond salvage I am sure.

Last time we saw it about a week ago, it had an Osprey perched on the top of its mast, keeping watch out...perhaps for pirates!

Here's the song.

'Whenever I'm alone with you

You make me feel like I am whole again''

Whenever I see the geese flying south for the winter, I can't help but think of this song by Joni Mitchell. (though I like it best performed by Dave Van Ronk- can't find a video!)

The world keeps turning – Whenever I look up at the sky at night, I see all the stars and I am reminded how small a part of everything I am. No matter what is going on in my life, no matter how big/small good/bad or how busy I am the world will keep turning. These thoughts keep me humble.

The technical – This is a 1 hour exposure shot on a Nikon D810 at f/2.8, ISO200. I choose to keep the ISO low to keep the image clean from noise and to keep the image darker. With the sky being so dark at Lake Alamo the stars are bright and show up well by simple using a wide aperture. I wanted the longer exposure for longer star trails, but it had the downside of capturing too much movement in the water, so the reflections didn’t show in this image. When I did a 30-minute exposure the star trails reflected in the water which I also like. Post color correction, exposure, contrast and sharpening was completed in Lightroom.

Whenever we visit Cornwall Judy likes me to drive along the north coast to Bedruthan Steps. But I suspect this is not so much for the gorgeous scenery as the fact that there is both a candle factory and a chocolate factory at St Eval, about a mile or so from here. And of course in normal times we just have to pop in on our way.

Bedruthan Steps, the name given to this bay with its prominent sea stacks, is between Newquay and Trevose Head. At low tide this wonderful sandy beach is revealed. I took a few pictures and then we headed off to the very nice cafe at the National Trust car park at Carnewas, just a few hundred yards away.

Whenever I Get Discouraged And I Want To Quit Something, I Remember The Words Of My Then 3 Year-Old After She Puked Carrots All Over The Living Room Floor, she looked at the mess sadly and said: "I'm Gonna Need More Carrots."

Whenever a designer does something new I get a little nervous. I mean a clothing designer doing decor doesn't often work. So when Promagic announced they were doing a backdrop I really wasn't sure what to think. Let me tell you I am so glad I took a chance on Promagic's Fall Backdrop because it is so stunning. The detail work is so well done with the browns, golds, and oranges. It is the epitome of fall. The fall backdrop was done in collaboration with LaGyo and was released today at Collabor88 so stop in and check out this amazing backdrop for yourself.

Whenever I see this I wonder about the selection process. How was the leader chosen? What are his qualifications? Does he really know where he is heading or is he just a smooth talker? Were his background and experience taken into account? They seem to follow him without question. Does that make them loyal, stupid or both? View On Black

Whenever I need an attitude adjustment I find walking is a good idea, and I have this nice place to go about 2 miles from my home. It’s also a good location for the “We’re Here!” theme today: It’s a Wide World.

Whenever villains decide to work together the locals are gonna have it rough; however, when the two teaming up are the "Android Assasin" Synapse and the "Enhanced Executioner" Qalon, the WHOLE WORLD may be about to pay the price.

Whenever I visit the wildlife park I spend time with the birds at the falconry. They have 6 or 7 bald eagles, among them two younger ones who still have their juvenile plumage. Bald eagles are always gorgeous but I especially I like them at that age when their head isn't completely white yet.

Whenever we see trees and water, they always go well together and we photographers feel compelled to ‘get a shot’!

This lovely scene is of the River Devon in Newark, marking the southern boundary of the Sconce and Devon Park. I have not seen it in recent years with as much water in it, despite the drier conditions that we have been experiencing in June.

Whenever people suffered the difficulty in real life, they either faced the challenge with courage or hided themselves in their secret garden temporarily, made their sophicated thoughts within, and then find way to breakthrough again.

Have you ever own your secret garden ? It could be a real place in the world , or just a mental place at your mind, which made yourself feel safe & help you calm down from the suddently sufferings in real life.

Try to create the secret garden through the overlayering composition, it can be a place mixed with variable emotions, happiness, sorrow, hate, sadness, peaceful etc, not necesarry a subjective garden in vision, maybe just a private corner under the tree, on the meadow, or even the space between the leaves & air.. tell me how you think about your secret garden.

Whenever I am out and about I like to stop and look up, then down and then turn around in a complete circle, there is so much more to life than what is straight ahead :)

Whenever I see the late afternoon sea mist rolling in I try and get down to Plymouth waterfront. The view towards Mount Edgcumbe is always rewarding as there are so many elements at the water’s edge, within the parkland and on the hilltops. This image was taken at about 100 mm just as the mist started to disperse, revealing a variety of buildings and layers and the tower of Maker church. Thanks for looking.

Whenever I wore this bracelet full of shiny beads, I would find myself waving my hands around in the air more than usual. The sunlight would hit one of the amber beads and I'd just have to look. Then one day I put this bracelet together with my macro lens. Now I knew why I loved this bracelet so much. There was order within the chaos of the arrangements....similar to my days spent teaching 5 and 6 year old children...and I loved teaching!

Whenever I go out to photograph owls, I struggle with whether to use my go to lens (the 500mm f/5.6) or my 300mm f/2.8 lens which lets in 4 times more light. Luckily most owls sit pretty still for long periods of time, letting one do a fairly slow shutter speed (as in this shot).

Is whenever I'm in my kayak, especially, with friends and family. I went to visit Lindsay at her lake cabin to go kayaking, and even though I tell people not to take a picture of me, they still do it. Usually, I thank them then press the delete button, but I kept this one. (she sent me 12 pics) God love them, they are just not photographers. Even though you can't really see me, I still feel the joy I had that day. I will post the one I took of Lindsay. She is fun, fit and forty.

Whenever I See A Commercial Of A Woman Looking Totally Relaxed Sitting In A Bathtub With A Couple Of Cucumber Slices On Her Eyes, I Can't Help But Wonder Where The Rest Of It Is...Hmmmm

Whenever I need to take an uplifting photograph then I head down to Selfridges. Today the sun was out and shinning. There had been overnight rain and this left a few puddles around. This is one of my favourite places to take a photograph and it was a beautiful day.

My tree it grows so big, so tall

When i hear, your sweet call

On the breeze, through my branches

Your sweet love, always dances

Your hands wrapped around my hard trunk

In in your wet ground my root is sunk

Until it reaches , you very core

Where you plead, that you want more

As i spread across your field

To my advances , you do yield

Under my ever spreading branches

Your heart jumps and it dances

My tree, it grows so big and tall

Whenever i hear, your loving call

Whenever my cell phone starts dinging with winter weather advisories, I often think of those who I have captured and how and where they will be riding it out.

Many years ago I was fishing with a friend on Patoka Lake when one of those famous summer pop-up storms appeared over head without notice. My friend threw on his rain gear quickly and resumed fishing...I sat in my seat and counted the gallons of water running off of the tip of my nose as I stared at my feet waiting for it to be over. I can not imagine it being freezing rain.

Whenever we cross Dartmoor on our way to Tavistock and the south-west we invariably pass this old granite quarry on the western side of the moor. Some of the rocks appear to be piled very precariously on the side of the road, but they haven't moved yet! The quarry started operating in 1876 and finally closed in 1997. It is said that the granite from Merrivale was used to pave Trafalgar Square and also the Falklands Memorial

The white buildings to the right of centre include the Dartmoor Inn, which had fairly recently re-opened after being closed for some time.

In this area (mainly behind the camera) are a number of prehistoric remains, and the group of monuments at Merrivale is one of the finest on the moor. Side by side here are the remains of a Bronze Age settlement and a complex of ritual sites, including three stone rows, a stone circle, standing stones and a number of cairns – earth mounds associated with burials. The monuments were probably built over a long period, between about 2500 BC and 1000 BC.

Whenever it's early twilight, I watch till a star breaks through

Funny, it's not a star I see, it's always you.

Whenever I see your smiling face

I have to smile myself

Because I love you, yes, I do

And when you give me that pretty little pout

It turns me inside out

There's something about you, baby

I don't know

Isn't it amazing a woman like me

Can feel this way

Tell me how much longer

It could grow stronger every day

Oh, how much longer?

I thought I was in love a couple of times

Before with the girl next door

But that was long before I met you

Now I'm sure that I won't forget you

And I thank my lucky stars

That you are who you are

And not just another lovely lady

Set out to break my heart

Isn't it amazing a woman like me

Can feel this way

Tell me how much longer

It could grow stronger every day

How much longer?

No one can tell me that I'm doing wrong today, whenever I see you smile at me

No one can tell me that I'm doing wrong today

Whenever I see your smiling face my way

No one can tell me that I'm doing it wrong today

No one can tell me that I'm doing it wrong today, no, no, darling

Whenever I see a dash of blue in the late fall and winter months, I tend to think of mountain and western bluebirds. However, there are a few other blue birds in town ... one of them being the Woodhouse's scrub-jay. In 2016 the Western scrub-jays were split into 2 different species ... the California scrub-jay and the Woodhouse's scrub jay. They hang out in the pinyon pines, junipers, oak woodlands, and mixed forests dining on insects, grains, small lizards & frogs, fruits, suet, and nuts. Found this one perched up on top during a cold winter's day.

Whenever I look out of the window these days into our quite disappointing autumn weather, I almost can't believe what a glorious autumn day it had been when I visited the lakes at a local nature reserve. I'm glad that I took so many photos that day, especially as the autumn colours are already fading by now.

Whenever the sun gets obscured by the clouds, the humans step back.

But there are people who are curious and stubborn, and want to figure out how things work, even risking their life in the past.

Meanwhile the Galileo’s Middle Finger is exhibited in the science museum of Florence... Clouds will never win over the light ;p

Pythagóras, Eukléidēs, Archimédēs, Eratosthénēs, Aristotélēs, Alhazen, Leonardo, Isaac Newton, Gottfried Leibniz, Émilie du Châtelet, Galileo, Johannes Kepler, Christiaan Huygens, Daniel Bernoulli, Alessandro Volta, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, Louis Daguerre, James Watt, Michael Faraday, James Clerk Maxwell, Marie Curie, Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, Guglielmo Marconi, Max Planck, Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison, Niels Bohr, Ernest Rutherford, Edwin Hubble, Richard Feynman, Shin’ichirō Tomonaga, Stephen Hawking (and many more...) I am grateful to all of you.

Whenever we are in the area and pay a visit to Sidmouth in East Devon I just have to include a visit to Connaught Gardens. These sit on a promontory overlooking the town and the coast. In January the gardens are, of course, in hibernation, but there is still the wonderful little teashop and restaurant which is located in the building with the white clock tower. There are also the beautiful views in both directions along the Devon coast. The seats pictured overlook Jacob's Ladder Beach on the west side of the town.

Whenever I wake up and see hoarfrost, I leap into action. This phenomenon is uncommon, occurring only a few times each year. It transforms the ordinary into something breathtakingly beautiful.

We're looking at the border hills, in the remote southern part of Grasslands Park - as far south as the roads go. From here, the traveller is on foot, and it isn't far to the Montana border. Three miles? I'm guessing. Certainly not much more.

The Frenchman River runs through that big valley in the middle distance, flowing right to left (north to south). I can't see it in this shot, so perhaps the near ridges have blocked it from view. Last summer and fall I hiked along the river, on two occasions, through the wild prairie landscape that always uplifts me when I submit to its charm and stop worrying about whether I'm getting great photos. That concern, after all, is just another distraction. Push too hard and something unknown pushes back, as if to suggest there's a better way. Open yourself to simply being present, and images will stream toward you unbidden. This has been my experience, and why I usually do better work in a receptive - not aggressive - state of mind. Aggression works well for football photographers and paparazzi, but it will only carry you so far in nature. Btw, I photographed a lot of football back in my younger days...

This is still a "transition season" image; most of the snow melted away, and has since be replaced by new snow. It's obviously weighted toward the winter side of the transition. As I sit at my monitor, it's very cold outside and my furnace is going strong. Definitely winter. But I have a week of "transition season wildlife" to share before moving on to something else.

Whenever I turn into Rob's drive after a trip out, Simba's waiting at the gate, jumps up and down and does manic, excited circles. Before I've opened the gate he's gone and found his favourite cheap plastic bone, the one I bought when we first met last year. We growl and fuss and pull. :-)

Whenever I'm at the park I visit the flamingoes. Usually I don't take any photos of them but last weekend I thought it was time for a new flamingo portrait. The flamingoes seemed to agree and posed nicely for a photo. :)

Whenever I come to this garden, I bring some bird food for robin. It seems he is starting to recognize me ...

Thank you all for visits, faves and comments!
