Theme of The Week - Negative Space

"Her Joy Was Complete" by Sleeping At Last

Second Life 52 Weeks of Color Challenge.

52 Week Challenge, number 4. My niece.

I was lucky enough to get a number of pictures in Newcastle this week and couldn't decide which one to use for the theme this week. But since the theme Category is also Abstract, I liked the way this picture has pieces of reflection from all the buildings around it in a rather abstract manner. Its a bit like a mosaic of reflections.

There has been a lot of blue in my project this year. Honestly, this week it's because I didn't plan and I was looking for some textures to use later and this wall stuck out. I'll try to be more intentional next week.

I really do think IR lends itself to architecture photography, as it brings out the contrasts within the buildings, but also between the buildings and any vegetation. Also used Topaz for the first time as the Nik collection appears to have uninstalled itself after the Photoshop 2017 update!

I forgot my tripod when I went to the states, and I wasn't in a self portrait mood but I took some pics anyway(none of them really good but I really want to finish the 52 weeks project so I am posting them anyway)

wishing everyone a great week, one of our volunteers taking one of the cats for a walk.

Week 36 (v 11.0) - though it's not a competition

That's right: I'm pregnant!! (PS. I'm 25 so no that poor 16 year old business haha)

Ever since I saw the absolutely wonderful maternity series by Pacing the Panic Room I knew that I had to do this when I was pregnant. Then I saw James, of Bleubird Vintage, beautiful series with her little one and it made me need to do it even more.

We began late as we waited to till we had told everyone, and I was showing more to start.

52 weeks of 2015

Yay! My 52 week challenge came to an end.

Despite ups and downs this year I managed to finish my challenge.

I have to say, I really enjoyed my second year of this challenge. It got me out of my comfort zone, I learnt quite a few new things in photography and I met some interesting people along the way.

If you would like to join me for the 2016 - 52 week challenge here is a link to the group on flicker: www.flickr.com/groups/52of2016/

It doesn't matter what camera you own or what level of photography you are at, you will get help and guidance every week and you will also learn one or two new things in photography.

It's a great challenge and anyone can do it.

Week 39:52 Graffiti (September 23rd - 29th)

----------------------------------------------------------------

There are a lot of wonderful paintings on the brick buildings in the nearby 'city' in my area and most, if not all of them were permitted by the municipality. Decided not to use them for this theme because I took the phrase "without permission" and see the word "usually" actually does mean "always" for my interpretation of graffiti.

----------------------------------------------------------------

There is quite a bit of this style around the area. This example is one of the closest to the main street in town. The others are on side streets and freight cars on the railroad tracks. Cannot be certain if this particular piece shows the work of 2 contributors, since at first glance, seems to be the case... or possibly 3.

Driving toward Canada on a dead end road.

This was taken on Vance Creek Bridge in WA. I spent the first 15 minutes practically on all fours, terrified of getting vertigo and falling off the bridge. Over time, as I tried to set up the shot that I wanted, the fear faded and I spent the last 15 minutes running back and forth from the camera to check the composition of the photos.

Week 18/52

Oh well. I guess this was channeling every person who's ever done a levitation shot. Which means... everyone.

----

I like female writers, especially when they're serious. I like Virginia Woolf, I like the Brontë sisters, I like 20th century writers, who transformed the way people see women, going from pretty-pieces-of-furniture-slash-sexual-toys to full on, thinking human beings. I am immensely grateful to all of them. But there's one who seems to get to me in a very particular way: Anaïs Nin. I read the compilation of her diaries ('Henry and June') for the first time when I was 15. It was life changing, as is everything at that age, but it's one of the books I keep in my nightstand. So when i read this quote of hers, earlier this week, I knew I had to work my photo of the week around it:

“I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I can not transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn’t impress me.”

I'm constantly told, in my life, that I can't just do the things I like, that I have to do everything, because that's life and life is hard and yadda yadda. I know. I recognize and accept that kind of thinking, that kind of paradigm. But the truth is, if it doesn't make me smile in wonder, if it doesn't make my heart flutter with emotion, then I probably won't care much about what happens. And this is what the shot is about.

I spent most of my week writing, which gives me an immense sense of freedom, but also drains me. Writing takes so much more out of me than photography does. But the truth is, it makes me feel alive. Photography makes me feel alive through physical pain, through adrenaline, through putting myself in danger to get a cool shot; writing does that to me simply by pulling on my heart strings and allowing my fingers to run through the keyboard, through taking me by the hand and showing me that it could be like this and not like that. The muse was kind this week, and she lead me wisely through both fiction and photography.

A Bittern in flight ??

I'm on a mission to complete the 52 week photo challenge, to capture at least 1 photo a week for a whole year.

Another week of bad weather and no inspiration!

Well thats a lie, i have so many ideas! but the weather isn't permitting them or my Model isn't available, and these i don't want to be self's!

So i was playing around. I got this old Bible in a Charity shop for £1.50, but its beautiful, pearlised cover and the note with the date in side (as i said before, i have a lot of junk!)

I don't feel this is one of my bests, but i also know i probably won't do much shooting over the weekend! I sound lazy!

But yeah, see you next week, have a good one people!

Theme of the Week - In the Style of Elliot Erwin

Stepped out my back door just after 5am to capture this beauty. Never get tired of sunrises and sunsets :)

YES that is real live FOG!! at 6:30 in the morning.

it is so nice not having to blur my backgrounds anymore. my camera does it for me :)

more in comments!

i also still haven't put the film up from 2 weeks ago so hopefully I'll get around to that this weekend!

Week 2: Landscape

‪#‎dogwood52‬ ‪#‎dogwoodweek3‬

I am now only 2 weeks behind, doing nights and then days has slowed down my photography somewhat. Anyway Week 8's theme was "Half/Halves" so a simple self explanatory shot of an apple cut in half. Done.

Again, shot in IR 850nm, tripod used as I shot this from directly above using available light from the patio doors which gives a nice diffuse shadow on the grained wood. Hope you like it, I know I do.

another road. another end.

not in reach, but always in sight.

things are changing. one of my friends has already left, others are leaving soon. I am going to leave. things are changing. so very soon. but everything’s going to work out, isn’t it?

and changes aren’t always bad. I’m quite excited that my 100 days of summer and fifty two weeks projects will end next week. (they are both already over, but I wrote this text about two and a half weeks ago). if only some photos wouldn’t put so much pressure on me. if only I could stop putting that much pressure on myself.
