So, I was up in Pennsylvania to visit for a few days. During a dull spell I braved the snow, ice and (as should be evident) cold on a photographic walk around and down a side road to see what there was to be found. Before going very far, from alongside the road came an old, beat-up house with all of the character that accompanies crumbling walls, rotten porch floor boards, and green wooden porch roof. The doors and walls proved to be good subjects, but what initially caught my eye, and turned out the best, was a huddle of old, retro glass bottles standing in the corner of the door frame. It took several shots to fine-tune the angle, but before my fingers got too cold to function, this shot was the reward.

Active Assignment Weekly: Nightime

In honor of the current meteor showers and all of the wonderful Christmas lightings out there, let's make this week's assignment a nighttime shot. No subject, just get out there and test your skills doing a nighttime shot.

Thanks Cliffwix for getting me back outside with my camera. I had fun playing with the zoom lens and white balance. This image was cropped and increased shadows. 1600 ISO, F14, 15s.

Active Assignment Weekly: Minimalism/K.I.S.S

K. I. S. S. or Keep It Simple Stupid is a phrase adopted by 12 step groups to remind themselves to keep it simple. I've adopted it for use in my own life sometimes to remind me when things get complex and out of whack to focus on whats important and leave the rest alone. For this weeks assignment, I want you to do exactly that. Choose your subject, isolate it using selective focus, colour, composition or whatever means appeals to you while keeping to the objective of minimalism.

DARE: Try to find an existing minimalism composition outdoors to photograph.

WiT: I was in Oceanside, CA while on a business trip to the San Diego area this week. I took up the Dare this week... I found this tall palm apart from many of the others. I thought it against the bright blue sky fit the assignment really well

Just to brighten the day. Shot for 7DOS - weekly theme All I want for Christmas (I'd want everyone to receive a weekly deliver of flowers throughout the winter months).

Certainly not the way to recycle a monitor. Raven feces are just not that corrosive. This one will be in the land-fill for many decades to come. On the upside, nice little condo for a weasel or squirrel. All the latest home electronics and a big picture window.

Taken for Active Assignment Weekly-Tristesse Royale

Assignment: "We all enjoy photos that brighten our mood and make us happy, but then again life is not alwayws a cream pie. So I want you to take a photo of anything, that upon watching makes you rather melancholic or moody (I think "sad" would be a too strong word)."

This was an offshoot of Stacy Julian's purse challenge. I found all these receipts and had to scrap them!
