Active Assignment Weekly: January 24-31

Makeup - It’s colorful, textured, diverse, and it’s everywhere. Makeup can be photographed in many different ways. It’s up to you. I’ve provided some samples below. There are too many groups for makeup; I referenced one below.

Dare: Put specific emphasis on the color RED.

Restrictions: No monochromes

WIT: I'm pretty sloppy with my makeup application, but I made up half my face with foundation, powder, blush, eybrow pencil, mascara, and gaudy red lipstick (definitely NOT my shade). Left the other half au natural. Shot the photo in the window light. I accepted the graininess, but did some spot healing (only on the made up side). Upped contrast and brightness , desaturated yellow, tight cropped to emphasize face and added a white vignette. My daughter added an extra dare: go out like this. I didn't take the dare.

Round Amager again.

This weeks challenge was to take a photo of an everyday item from your home in a way that we might not all recognise what it is. This is a filament in a light bulb, I smashed the glass off and used all of my extension tubes with the 50mm.

This image represents a song called "Play them cards" by DEANN. She is also my mom! She released this album in 2021, which conveys the idea of taking chances in the face of no chances.

Active Assignment Weekly for the week of December 13-21: Traces

WIT: The Washington DC area got a (relatively) large amount of snow this weekend. a setting sun and ice melt that looks like fertilizer add color. We barely got plowed out, but someone ran a snow blower down the sidewalk. Raw conversion, boosted exposure of foreground, blended with sky as shot.

Active Assignment Weekly: July 6-13, 2015 – "High Colour"

Your subject July 6-13 is "High Colour".

Restrictions:

1)The subject itself must be bright: you may use your favourite software to tune the shot (indeed, if you shoot raw, you'll have to), BUT we can all spot the "Flickr pushed colour specials"; your result must appear reasonably bright naturally.

2)No black & white, no partial desaturations

WIT: This small wildflower comes and goes in our backyard. Google says it's a pink purslane. I shot in direct sunlight, using the kit lens, which can focus up close. Minor tweaks in LR3 for post-processing.

Thanks to special guests Varick Rosete, AIGA President, and Chad Landenberger. For more on Chad and Varick, read yesterdays blog post: Designer’s in Toyland and I’m Board IV on Urban Jacksonville Weekly. There is a good bio and photos of each.

I also want to thank our breakfast sponsor Uptown Market for the good-but-not-halved breakfast sandwiches.

Rory at 11 1/2 weeks, working out those jaws.

Got lucky with a short firework show on the beach. They were doing weekly ones and we got to get really close; could feel the vibration of the explosion :) Also saw that they have a group that go out on standup paddle boards to see the fireworks too.
