Sustainability Week is a Switzerland-wide initiative, which is the brainchild of VSFN, the Swiss Association of Student Organizations for Sustainability. In joining VSFN, Les Roches has scored a number of firsts: it is the first private school, the first hospitality school and the first school in Valais to become part of this fast-growing movement.
“This is our first Sustainability Week and our goal is to raise students’ awareness of the need to behave more responsibly towards our environment,” Says Paulo Macarrao, Sustainability Officer at Les Roches.
Valais Sustainability Week included a clothes swap, lectures, panel discussions and workshops with guest speakers such as Katie Jepson, from the UK’s National Union of Students, and Johannah Bernstein, who has advised national governments, international NGOs, and UN organizations on a wide range of global sustainability issues within the United Nations system of multilateral diplomacy.

Week 3
Inspiration: Black and White
------------------------------------------
Your inspiration this week is to simply take an amazing Black and White photograph of any subject you want.

This is my rendition of The Giant Sequoias in California. I used old photos that were stuffed away in a drawer and created my own imaginary place surrounded by trees. The quote is "You've always had what it takes to be great." If you have never witnessed the majesty of these trees, please take the time to read about them. It's amazing how much history they have lived through.

If there were more than one of me. I'd get a lot more work done.
5 shoots deep in editing and two more shoots booked next week.
Another week of cold and snow in the 60067. It has been an unusually cold and snowy
winter. One more week of snow then cold.
The past couple of weeks have been a whole lot of FAIL! I kept wanting to take shots outside, but had to keep rushing them due to the weather. So, I did a couple of sessions trying to pull off a high-key look, but they just never appealed to me. Perhaps this mug isn't meant for high-key =-/
Anyway, this is me showing my frustration with not being able to produce something nice over the past couple of weeks.
Lighting Info:
2 AB800's in the rear with grids roughly.7 stops overexposed.
1 AB1600 in front through a beauty dish about .7 stops underexposed.
I started out with 1.5 stops difference between front and rear, but I'm not sure where I ended up. I kept having to bring the rear camera-right light down because it was blowing out the side of my face too much. I didn't have two of the same grids, so they were projecting the light a bit differently.

Went out to dinner with a bunch of sisters this week. It was a good time, we went around the table and told everyone what we've been up to lately. It was nice catching up with everyone.
You can also see one of the finished stockings I made.
Canvas board for the week 34 class. I omitted the supporting animal as I feel I need to stand on my own two feet. I added metal charms to the tree to represent things that are meaningful in my life. The three balloons say 'just let go' which is a message I need to hear particularly in relation to forgiveness.
It's Chinese Week at my university and they put up chinese symbols everywhere. Unfortunately, I cannot read a word.
Oh boy! This week brings a lot of unexpected complaints...numb, tingly fingers (carpal tunnel!? I have to wear a wrist brace at work and while sleeping!), nightly charley horses (ow!), and re-emerging nausea. Things were a lot less difficult the first time around!
I went to the doctor yesterday morning and I'm measuring large again (some things stay the same). He's a little concerned and we've got a weekly ultrasounds scheduled to see if this little lady's going to be a whopper-child. There were similar concerns with Ayler, though, and he was a respectable 7lb 15oz, so I'm not too worried.

I had no time with my camera this week...but I did have to do some editing and found this. It's a cheater as it was taken last summer...but these beautiful swans return every year to the river in Stratford. They even have their own parade in the spring to march them down there. I'm going to try and see it this year. So, it does fit the theme. :)
I took some street style photos for Rhiannon, a fashion blogger from the UK (rhiannoncdavies.wordpress.com) so here are some of my favourites from the week!
