National Nurses Week 2025 is here! This year the American Nurses Enterprise is shining a light on The Power of Nurses. We recognize the invaluable contributions of nurses worldwide and the real-life challenges they face every day. Whether you're a nurse, a healthcare professional, a patient, or simply someone who appreciates the critical role nurses play in our lives and society, National Nurses Week is the perfect time to share your gratitude and celebrate nurses. Be sure to thank a nurse. They are the glue that holds the healthcare system together.

Prompt: Illustration of a nurse. The nurse is standing in a medical setting, wearing a white uniform with a red cross on her hat and a stethoscope around her neck. She is holding a clipboard and smiling. The background features medical equipment, including a blue syringe, a box of gloves, and a medical chart on a table. The text "HAPPY NURSES WEEK" is written in large letters, with the date "May 6 - 12 " written in smaller letters.

Border collie Runchkin came over for a visit. They were two ball-obsessed peas in a pod!

Looking at my sweet little puppy this week, a thought came into my head... where the hell did those legs come from?!

I'll admit this was kind of a hurried shot taken on Friday before more storms came in. Added another 6" or so of snow to our count, and yet another drop in temp resulting in even more record-breaking cold temps (oh goodie). Will be looking forward to playing in the new snow later next week once the temps get to a tolerable level!

Week 4 - The cock up...

So another week, same old room. I'd planned on getting out this week had a whole separate shoot in mind. Then life interrupts and dinner needs cooking and blah blah blah... So this was taken in between all the prep and cooking of a Sunday roast.

Strobist info:

Canon 430 EXII - 1/16th - Softbox - Camera Left and high

Nikon SB-900 - 64th - Umbrella - Camera left and low.

I'll post the setup shot later.

This lovely couple danced on top of my wedding cake 21 years ago so I thought they were a fitting subject for this weeks theme. I had plans to set them up with my wedding dress and had left them out on the table overnight, when I woke in the morning the sunlight was casting this lovely shadow.

Keeping it real this week and taking my photo in front of the giant pile of baby stuff we've accumulated but have yet to deal with. (This is in addition to the stuff we've actually put away and the piles of stuff in our bedroom.)

Remind me to tell you about the time my midwife made me pee all over my hand... and then I'll tell you about how it's now impossible to bend over, how I've given up on wearing any bra besides a sleep bra, and how I gained 24 pounds in the first 26 weeks of pregnancy. That's right folks, I'm a buck fifty and PROUD.

Also, no more ice cream. Or bread.

Niblet weighs over two pounds now, and she's 14 inches long. Her eyes opened for the first time this week! We can't wait to find out what color those peepers are. I feel her kicking in multiple places at once, and she seems to get more active every day. She kicks all over my belly, under my ribs, and sometimes she stomps on my cervix which is super fun, let me tell you. This Sunday is exactly three months until my due date... holy mackerel. Kid's gonna be here before we know it and I still can't believe I'm pregnant.

This week I am going to try to shoot only with my 50mm 1.8 II lens. We are not friends yet, the lens and I, It seems the focal points I use to take the shot are not in line with image that is recorded. I'm not sure if it is just because it is an inexpensive lens (around $100) or because there is something not quite right with it. Anybody else have this kind of trouble with the nifty fifty?

Thanks to the pioneer woman for the edge burn action.

early, again!

This was rejected from my fashion project as its not really a fasion shot!

i originaly took it in the wrong white blance (tut tut) but adjusted it on photoshop, and decided to change it to the wrong white balance again! but atleast it isn't blue anymore :)

i know i posted some already from this shoot, but i love this composition for some reason with the boat just on the horizon!

also, i know i said i wouldn't post my work, but this shoot for me was what i love doing retro stuff, so im bending the rules slightly!

Have a happy easter! see you next week!

Week 40 14-20 October

This took a while, but eventually got around to processing this shot I took earlier in the year in Tasmania. This is of course is the iconic Bridport Pier. More next week.

I had breakfast just before this picture was taken, so I look a bit bigger below the chest than in my previous pictures. Since I eat a lot during the day, I guess this is what I look like most of the time ;)

It has been a quiet week, not much has happened, but I did have an appointment with my midwife and she told me the baby is head down already so that's great news.. I hope he/she doesn't turn around at the last second to give me a hard time ;)

Nothing like a gigantic T-Rex to make my sweet boy look tiny.

I had a week of looking at myself and wondering what I will be; I’ve come to realize that I may just spend the rest of the my life becoming me.

Forgot my self portrait for week 17, so here’s a selfie I snapped with the Brookie Monster last week

A softer version of my Flickr shot this week - reflecting days gone by.

Week 5.

Tall trees on a cloudy winter night.

Took quite a few sky photos this week - this was the one that captured me the most. Love the simplicity and the symmetry of the plane against the beautiful blue skies and spring foliage. Hope you like it too.

The leaves of my banana plant look amazing.

Great timing: 5 weeks before our baby is considered to be full term, my Nikon D80 brakes down! Not sure what to do, with a baby coming and all the expensive stuff that goes with that, I am not keen on buying a new camera!

This picture was taken with our Leica, which is a ultra wide angle camera. Not exactly great for portrait shots so I cropped it to match the other pictures.

Apart from the camera trouble, all is going well. Baby is still head down, heartbeat sounds great, and I am also feeling well. I am getting quite 'slow' and tired quickly though.
