A bit of drama in the sky this morning as a frontal system passed through. We raced down to the lookout and snuck in a few quick shots before beating a hasty retreat.

September 1st, 2021 graced Chicagoland with perfect weather, 75F under blue skies and low humidity for the first time in ages. On the west side of Chicago along UP's Geneva Sub (with the CTA Green Line to the right) a pair of SD70ACes with 9042 on the point slogs up the long hill at Central Avenue with an extremely long manifest, probably originating on CSX trackage. I didn't count cars, but this truly was a massive train, with a KCSdeM GEVO two-thirds of the way back for DPU power.

Friday I received my first photographic 'commission'. It's a friendly one. Chuffed to bits and hope to share more about this, soon. (i was going potty about this yesterday here, so i've calmed it down a bit :-)
There wasn't a lot of fall color at Allerton Park near Monticello, Illinois yesterday with the exception of a few scattered maple trees with bright yellow leaves. This old red weathered birdhouse caught my eye with one of these maples in the background shining with the late afternoon life. This birdhouse looks like it has seen many fall seasons come and go.
Our high temp in the low-80s today will give way to below-freezing temps and possibly snow within 24 hours. And here I thought we were done with Ol’ Man Winter … 💨 💨 💨

Oh I can so relate to this old fence...weathered and bent, but it still does the job....full of scars from life's elements but it hangs in there for more.The new fences are pretty and straight, but do not know what is in store,will they withstand what life has to throw at it....

A lovely stone wall made a great foreground as well.
I'm not saying this is a "best" photograph, but it is true that adverse weather makes the best pictures.
Oxbow Bend, Tetons

Last year we made a trip to Scotland and London during the Easter holidays. We left London and took the amazing Caledonian Sleeper train and arrived to Edinburgh in a cold frosty morning (first photo in the comments). We are not used to that kind of weather. At noon we picked up a camper van to made a road trip to the Highlands. Our first stop was the amazing Cairngorms National Park. Really Really cold. We took a walk to the nearby Loch Morlich and we were witnessing a perfect dusk. The colors in the sky were amazing. You can see it in the second photo in the comments below. We had dinner in the camper van and we went to bed. At one moment during the night the heater went off due a lack of heating gas, and we were freezing. We woke up early and then, through the windscreen we were seeing the snow coming down. It was quite a moment. Kids were running in the Park, playing with other kids, and took another walk to the Lake, this time with a totally different view. No more colors in the sky or trees. For us an unforgettable moment.

Watching the passing of a cold front, the rain hit us shortly after this shot. The weather cleared partially later and allowed us to enjoy a wonderful sunset (posted earlier)... beach at Leelanau State Park, Northport, Michigan
Another weekend of beautiful, cloudless weather brought out a few railfans for Cincinnati's train of the day. NS 142 slowly makes its way north over the First Trestle in Ludlow, KY with NS 1071 "Central Railroad of New Jersey" heritage unit leading two other EMDs.
