The vagrant Ross's Gull, after spending lunchtime at the small airfield north of Half Moon Bay, flew to a turned, flooded field next to Highway One, in excellent afternoon light, and put on a show that delighted a host of blissed birders.
Beth has some good shots. Surely, others do, too.
Again we were lucky to watch a couple of Long-tailed Tits building their nest.
Yet this is not the same couple we photographed in April. April's Longtailed-Tits looked very much alike. When you look carefully at these two you will see that the left one's head is nearly completely white. The Tit on the right hand side has wide black bands above both eyes and in general a dark head. The white headed Tits are a species of Northern Europe. The Long-tailed Tits of Southern and Western Europe look like the one on the right, better to be seen in yesterday's photo: www.flickr.com/photos/uli-joe/17453246475/.
In Central Europe both species coexist.

Wir hatten nochmal das Glück einem Schwanzmeisenpaar beim Nestbau zuschauen zu können.
Allerdings war dies nicht dasselbe Paar, was wir im April fotografiert hatten. Die Meisen im April sahen beide gleich aus. Wenn man hier genau hinschaut, sieht man, daß die linke Meise einen fast weißen Kopf hat, während die rechte Meise über den Augen breite schwarze Streifen hat. Die Meisen mit den hellen Köpfen sind eine nordeuropäische Art, die teilweise nach Mitteleuropa eingewandert sind. Die Schwanzmeisen in Süd- und Westeuropa sehen so aus wie die rechte, besser zu sehen auf unserem Foto von gestern: www.flickr.com/photos/uli-joe/17453246475/.
Hier in Mitteleuropa kommen beide Arten nebeneinander vor.

I always like to have something within a landscape picture which draws the eye and also adds something a bit interesting to it as well. As the evening went on I ran out of props... so my sunnys came off and volunteered :-)

This little guy landed on some poisen oak after flying manically about. I scooted to where I was lying below him and he posed for about 20 shots before taking off.
