The first assembly step for this washing machine is to attach the base plate. Amazon reviewers warned that the screws never line up with the holes, and they were right.
(I did not buy this from Amazon, for the record. I shopped local, ordering it from J&R.)
Today marked the delivery of the new washer/dryer..so thought I would get the wide angle lense out and see what sort of pic I could get of its shiny new interior. The UFO in the kitchen!!

May 31 - This Flickr set isn't full of stunning images. Rather, it's a place to record the details of life. This represents the fact when I do a white wash, I bleach the hell out of it.
This image is in a set called "My Daily Photo Stream". Whereas the focus of my eJournal and images blog is on text, I want to create an emphasis on photos here. I'll shoot and add an image each day. Doing so will remind me to constantly carry my camera and it'll be a more direct record of current, personal experiences.
When I opened the front door to take out our laundry, one of the towels had been sucked onto the door and the terry cloth spun into a swirly spiral pattern. It was quite taut and I had to push through it to get to the other laundry. Sadly the washing ball with the detergent had got stuck between the towel and the side of the cylinder, so everything was very powdery and I had to redo the wash. Weird though, and it looked a lot like a giant squid eye!
That's where the missing socks have been going!
Thank you, Jon Argos, for commenting on my previous shot and giving me the inspiration!
a mi estar delante de la lavadora me daba cierta seguridad.nunca he sabido por qué.pero nunca volvà a vivir momentos tan apacibles como aquellas tardes de domingo que me sentaba frente la lavadora …

I have a lot of homework and studying to do. Some people procrastinate by watching TV or playing video games. Instead I decided to fix our leaky washing machine and post the photos on Flickr.
For those interested, it's a Maytag A412 top-loading, belt-driven washing machine. I have no idea how old it is -- has to be at least 10 years. This diagram has a nice break out of parts, including a label indicating that the injector nozzle/valve is a part that frequently fails. I also bought the part from these guys too.
I actually put part of the injector nozzle back, but I used my own hose clamps and a length of some kind of steel pipe. The replacement part should arrive by Wednesday.
Our International women of Istanbul photo club is having an exhibition entitled "Istanbul! Istanbul!" I'll publish the invites for you to join the opening night if you're in Istanbul on the 26th. Would love to have you!!
Sitting, rocking on the porch, her eye happened to fall upon an electrical plug-in plate set into the baseboard. Probably so folks could come out here in the summertime and listen to the radio or even have the baseball on that cute little round TV. Nothing in the whole country more common than those little wall-plates with the prong-slits in them. She’d even had them back in her squatter’s shack in Hemingford. You didn’t think nothing of those plates… unless they didn’t work anymore. Then you realized that one hell of a lot of a person’s life came out of them. All that spare time, that pleasure which the long-ago Don King had extolled her on… it came out of those switchplates set into the wall. With their potency taken away, you might as well use all those gadgets like the microwave oven and the ‘trash masher’ to hang your hat and coat on. (Stephen King, The Stand 640)
The world relies on electricity. Everything needs electricity to function. When the power goes out, our lives are put on hold. We need electricity. Strip us of this dangerous discovery and society would be in shambles.
This project illustrates how our lives are ruled by electricity. I use dramatic lighting and contrast to set a sense of urgency. The photos are slightly unnerving. The light beckons to the viewer, calling him/her closer, only to establish its power over society.

Museum of Water and Steam, London.
Visited on 13th February 2016. Interesting museum which will appeal to older/mature persons and possibly the very young (as there are 'things' for them to play with. Can't see teenagers and young adults visiting without children.
If you like old steam engines then you will like this muesum.

Rather newer than the very first launderette that opened in Fort Worth in 1934.
The word itself is derived from the Spanish 'import' of Cafeteria which was used for a self-service cafe back in 1893.

One of the trials of returning home....the washing.
I'm pretty rubbish with the physical packing. I'm brilliant at planning. I write lists and coordinate my clothes with shoes and jewellry for the duration of the trip. Only I put off the washing until the last minute and numerous times I have travelled with damp clothes that either need drying on arrival or re-washing when I get there.
I'm pretty rubbish at washing when I get home too. Even now laundry is strewn all over my bedroom floor.
This photo isn't straight- but I like it, I tried to straighten it and it didnt look the same. I had to get into a wierd position to shoot this, so the washing machine looked daunting and huge- to demonstrate my procrastination of washing. I used to work in a washing machine factory when I finished Uni- maybe thats where the reluctance lies- too much like work :)
