After the initial boom ended in 1875, Warren was known for its significant Chinese population.

The boom-town population plummeted when mining declined, but enjoyed a brief renaissance in the 1930s with the introduction of dredge mining in the area.During World War II, gold mining was shut down by the U.S. government in 1942. Following the war, interest in Warren was high for rare earth metals in its by-product monazite. A modest gold mining industry remains in the area.

The town has been threatened several times by forest fires, most recently in 1989, 2000, and 2007.

Guy Warren by Danelle Bergstrom. Oil on linen.

Renowned artist Guy Warren won the Archibald Prize in 1985. Now he is an Archibald subject.

'Guy Warren is a philosophical artist who is deeply interested in the relationship between humanity and nature. Adventurous in both life and art, with an innate curiosity and inventiveness, he is obdurate in pursuit of his vision', says Bergstrom. 'I have always admired Guy for his sensitivity, his gentleness and his total commitment to his work. I share with him a love and passion for and a connection to the land'.

Born in Sydney in 1957, Bergstrom has been an Archibald finalist on previous occasions, and has won the Packing Room Prize twice.

Taking a stroll on the Asbury Park Boardwalk is a good way to remember the historic sights to be seen and enjoyed. The remarkable artwork and design of the Carousel Building is one of a kind. The historic Carousel Building is a three-quarter ornate copper clad rotunda that is a landmark along the waterfront in Asbury Park, New Jersey. The Carousel section is part of the Casino Building, a striking 1929 beaux arts structure designed by architect Whitney Warren and partner Charles Wetmore (designers of Grand Central Terminal in New York).
