As snow falls all around us, we still experience rain. I’ve taken all my cold-weather clothing out of storage in preparation for the inevitable snow days. Staying warm during these chilly months means wearing cozy clothing like scarves, hats, shawls, and mittens. I enjoy knitting and cherish the hat and scarf set I made several years ago; the faux fur pom-pom remains fluffy even after being stored away. With these pieces, I will certainly stay warm. Warmth also comes from sipping hot cups of coffee or cocoa, and enjoying a steaming pot of tea after being outside in the cold.

The entryway to Macy's.... even though it was cold and snowing outside, I felt instantly warm under this festive entryway :)

This was a Secret Santa gift from an internet friend around 3 years ago. You break the disc at the bottom, and the heart warms up to use as a hand warmer. I still don't know who it came from. Anyone care to take the credit?

First entry for FESA under the "Baby it's cold outside" category, because it will get cold soon! I knitted this cowl using a free Ravelry pattern. For more information and links to the pattern visit my blog: stitchparade.com/?p=745

It was here that President Franklin Roosevelt swam in an attempt to ease the effects of Polio. The pools fell into disrepair in the 1960's but have been restored but due to years structural damage the pools cannot support the weight of the water and can’t be filled.

Native, warm-season, perennial, highly variable, slender, tufted grass with erect or ascending stems to 60 cm tall. Flowerheads are contracted to open panicles (5-

30 cm long); the lower branches 2-many times as long as the spikelets. Spikelets are small, flattened, 8-24 flowered and very shortly stalked; tending to overlap (or nearly so) each other and not widely diverge from the branches. Lemmas are 1.5-2 mm long. Flowers from spring to autumn. Found in a wide range of habitats (sand dunes, grasslands, woodlands, swamps, etc). Tolerates disturbance. Occurs on a wide range of soil types, but more commonly on lighter, shallow or rocky soils of lower fertility. Native biodiversity. Rapidly colonises bare areas or after clearing. Provides a palatable and moderate quality feed, but

does not produce much leaf. Responds positively to increased fertility and grazing.

the bright lights, big city fest: when some excellent reporters play at being rock stars, and i play at being a photographer. always a delight.

Taken on my Pentax K-5 and 135mm f/3.5 lens - a lovely classic lens that cost me less than £15 on ebay. Overcast weather with patches of sun created some moody photographs today.

Or maybe showing off for the ladies

So warm out we sent the children out to play on the roof (just kidding-Paul had to go outside to fix siding that was loose and Clark went with him. Tabby was deemed to spastic to be trusted not to fall off)

It's starting to get much warmer outside. Once May hits, Ozzy will become a vampire again. LOL!

The warm up before the race, stretching

Warm thoughts go out to friends & family in the colder parts of the world! Spring (for most) is just around the corner!

I've been wanting to make wrist warmers for a while and here finally is a style I'm happy with and that I myself wear.

I wanted to use colours that are reminiscent of the fall season, to play with combining materials and textures, and to achieve a style that does not shout at you but that adds just enough of a touch of something different.

So here it is!

Knitted first and then felted. Made of 100% peruvian highland wool. They are soft. The button cover is crocheted with hemp. The wrist warmer closes very easily with a magnetic snap button. Easy to put on. Easy to take off. And securely attached.
