Been wanting to shoot the sunset at Manila Bay again for some time now but for the terrible traffic in the metropolis. Good Friday was a good time to do this as traffic in the city was very light (most everyone else have gone to the countryside for their vacation). There was still a good number of people along the bay area but at this location no one could interfere with my shots. Photo taken inside the breakwater looking towards the Manila Yacht Club, Philippine Navy Headquarters and some of the buildings along Roxas Blvd.
I've been wanting to try my hand at magical fantasy once again, and hearing one of my favorite pieces of music: 'Elixir' I was inspired to create: Unraveling Mysteries.
I want to give a shout out to .:.Pariah.:. for these stunning eyes that just pop (I did lighten them juuuust a touch for effect)! Both colors are from the Feast Eyes fatpack that you can find at the main store or on the marketplace! The eyes come in twelve vibrant shades of brown, honey, ice, and blue. They also have several stone/crystal inspired eye sets as well as dark and alternative style tattoos and body modifications that you definitely don't wanna miss if that's your style! And bonus; they're all set up for EvoX!

Cat lovers often are the kindest and gentlest people. I met this older couple in Brooklyn and this is their cat, Star. There was an older woman who lives with Star who told me she was very concerned because Star is quite old and she had her father and her father was showing the same kinds of behaviors before he passed away.
There's a really strong connection between pet lovers when we talk about loss of a pet. It really is something that almost surpasses what humans are capable of enduring...the suffering we feel when a pet we love and cherishes dies. I could feel the woman I spoke to preparing for this mentally but also having that internal conflict of wanting to enjoy the time she had left without the depression already setting in.
I talked to this human for quite a bit and was told about how Star's father cat was so smart that he used the toilet instead of the litter box and how Star has to have special food and treats. We cat lovers pick up on little nuances particular to each personality and we treasure them as if they are individual gifts (because they are!)
Anyway, I couldn't tell if the man in the photo was the woman's son or partner. I had the impression when I was speaking to her below where the man and Star were standing in this shot that she was the kind of human that appreciated a conversation more than a photograph and it was just nice to have that moment. Sometimes, you have to remind yourself that there are other ways of collecting memories and sometimes words (too many words in this case as I'm rambling) can serve a purpose. I've made a note to revisit the image of her in my mind mentally but, within that image, is not merely a woman but a woman who loves cats and all those felines she's adored who've adored her back.
Have a nice Caturday.

Not wanting to feel left out on the weekend, CSX decided to send something good our way the next morning after NS 153 with the 2 H1’s.
Close to 12 hours after leaving Louisville at the conclusion of the 2022 edition of the Kentucky Derby, CSX P001 is seen heading south for Jacksonville. With another round of inspection trips up towards Ohio that is scheduled to leave Jacksonville the next day, they were wasting no time to get the train south. Here near the summit of Elizabeth Hill, it was a cat & mouse game with the shadows & clouds as me & a couple others are hope for the shadows to retreat far enough for a decent opening. Thankfully for us, we got lucky with maybe 3 minutes to spare, if that. 5-8-22

Wanting to post something, I had in mind a cool shot I had from my Bessemer trip in 2013 of the train snaking around some curves in the snow. Looking through my set however, I realized this was the epitome of the trip; snow angrily falling to the earth amid the last gasp of the Bessemer and Lake Erie as we knew it. Can this really have been almost 9 years ago already?! This was a harrowing chase, but boy did it produce. There's a reason you don't see too many heavy snow shots in this area. The Bessemer as it had been was disappearing, the #902 would only hold on for about another year before it would be sent off to be repainted, never to return. Soon IC SD70's would arrive, ending one era and ushering in another. Amazingly, 3 orange units still remain in Pennsylvania and countless others across the CN system. This is one trip I will never forget.
I have been wanting to go to this cave for a long time, but I have never got the chance. Ok, the cave can be a little hard to find, but it's not all that far, and too tough to get to. However, it's about 2 hours to get here and there is not really that much cave to see. So, every time we talk about going here, the idea dies because it's just too far for such a small site.
Well, the wife and kids are out of town this week, and I know the dog and I can visit two locations (Dee Wright and Skylight) alone that the family has never really wanted to go to. So it's the dog and I cuddling up in the car overnight again for a milky way image. More on that later.
Anything for a photo.
This cave is a very unique cave. The beams are shy and require a very set of circumstances to appear.
First, you need to be there alone, or at least get people out of your frame. I know everyone wants to add romance by thinking this is a secret cave. Nope. The fact is, it's a tourist attraction. I took a day off of work because I have heard this place can get some crowds. Great plan right? Nope. Fail. All of the magic ingredients were right, but the people of Oregon knew that too and it was crowded. I got lucky though and the all the visitors were very respectful of each other, we all made a great team to be sure to get the images we wanted.
Second, you need Summer Solstice. The actual skylights are surrounded by trees, so you need a sun high, and at the right angle to actually shine down into the cave. that only happens for about three months of the year. Turns out the cave is closed all the other months because it is a bat condo during that time of year.
Third, the shy beams only come out for about three hours a day, between 9 and 11, generally. For me that meant leaving the house at about 5am. I needed extra time because many have a hard time finding the cave.
Fourth, you need a cloudless sky to get the sunshine. Marry all those together and that becomes a very, very narrow window of opportunity.
Turns out everything worked out.
I did loads of research on getting to the cave. The OHV trails to the site were not that bad, I saw one guy there in a minivan. Google maps was actually not too wrong this time (a Miricale). The day was bright, no clouds, and late June was just right. I got there at 8am, way too early, but at least I got to scout the area before the narrow photo window. I was worried that the crowds could be an issue. After all, I had planned to kick up some dust from the cave floor to make the beams stronger. I was worried that this might bug others. Well, self correcting problem, the floor was mud, no dust to be had. I did not need dust, you see those beams?
The main trouble with the shoot itinerary was shooting skylight in the morning and Dee Wright at night, meant there was a lot of time to kill in between. The dog did not mind. He got lots of time playing in the Deschutes River.
Let me know what you think.
A vintage vehicle, perhaps a Model T looks toward a row of houses at the ghost town of Bodie, California. Some of these houses were occupied until the town was acquired by the state of California. The one on the far left is still occupied by park personnel.

A Fly Agaric (Amanita Muscaria) Toadstool.
I have been wanting to get a shot of these for a long time and missed a chance earlier this month when I was unable to join a FFF+ group outing. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered some in a friend's garden, not 500 metres from home! Another one ticked of the wishlist!
Taken last weekend.
Had been wanting to get to this bridge straddling the A64, for a while. Didn't know how to get there, but Ol managed to find it somehow - despite going through some kind of time distortion portal thing.
Ive been wanting to go here for ages , and when i left the house to travel here the weather looked great, really fast moving low cloud, so i thought i could get some good mono long exposures, however when i got there it was torrential rain, followed by very bright skies. I did wait for sunset but even then i really black cloud came in and spoied the show, So this is all i could salvage from the day. The starburst was deliberate, not that i wanted to copy others that have done the same, but it was the only way to control the harsh light on the day!, I've given it a sepia look, and a strong vignette blur to add some mood, i don't think it will be for everyone , but i quite like it, thanks in advance for any comments or faves!, please expand to full size and view on black for the best effect!
Wanting to show off my new body jewelry, my good friend and photographer extraordinaire, Giuliano Carminucci was more than happy to snap a few photos of my barely covered bejeweled booty. Hope you all love and enjoy the photos along with new hair.

I've been wanting to get this shot for a long time now. I was going to drive down to this beautiful spot on Sunday night but the clouds rolled in so I stayed at home and instead decided to give it a punt last night. The skies were clear and the new moon set just before 9pm leaving me alone in the darkness. I also wanted to try the lens that I recently purchased for astro shots like this. It was nice having that extra stop of light to f2.8 and wide 14mm but I'm starting to think that stitching these types of images would be a lot easier if I had taken lots of shots using a 50mm fixed. Anyway, here's the result. I think the long tiring drive was worth it.

Wanting something is not enough. You must hunger for it. Your motivation must be absolutely compelling in order to overcome the obstacles that will invariably come your way.
Les Brown.
Leslie Calvin "Les" Brown (born February 17, 1945) is an American motivational speaker, author, radio DJ, former television host, and former politician. As a politician, he is a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives. As a motivational speaker, he uses the catch phrase "it's possible!" and teaches people to follow their dreams as he learned to do. He was the host of The Les Brown Show.
Early life
Brown was born with his twin brother, Wesley, in an abandoned building in Liberty City, a low-income section of Miami, Florida. He was subsequently given up for adoption and adopted by Mamie Brown, a 38-year-old single woman who worked as a cafeteria attendant and domestic assistant. He was declared "educable mentally retarded" while in grade school. Despite the self-esteem and confidence loss issues this created, he learned how to reach his full potential with the encouragement of his mother and assistance by a helpful teacher in high school, a key point in many motivational speeches he gives now. I have been wanting to do another Viking post for a while and just could not for the life of me put it all together. But this month’s round of The Fantasy Collective put all the pieces in place.

Wanting to do this picture, I pondered actually plucking a flowers petals. When I came upon this little flower, I realized the bloom was already on its way out! There were only five petals remaining. I only had to pluck one petal. In the game of "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not", I guess he loves me if I took the petals down to ONE!

I took this shot early this morning with a foggy white sky and 1000000% humidity. It's my first time attempting a long exposure shot (6 seconds). I've been wanting to try this for a while and just finally got a tripod and shutter release cable. I also used a polarizer ( a week ago I didn't even know what that was!). I don't think its the best shot but wanted to post my first attempt.
I'll be traveling all day, headed home. I'll catch up with you all tonight. Happy Monday and have a great week!
We returned to Lake Shore Park in Newark. The chicks are getting larger but still wanting to be fed by mum and dad. This chick was so excited, as it stuck its beak into its parent’s mouth, that it put the adult off balance and he/she had to open its wings to stabilize itself. This baby is pretty big now and I’m sure the parents will encourage it to fly and find food for itself soon.

I’ve been wanting to try the Pep Ventosa technique of ‘in the round’ for a few years and have finally been able to do the post processing now that I have a more capable computer. I’m sure most of you are familiar with this artist and technique but for those that aren't… Pep Ventosa, who is originally from Barcelona, Spain created this idea. He's known to play with the perception of reality. This technique is comprised of multiple exposures by moving the camera around a central subject and then combining those exposures as layers in Photoshop. The end result provides an impressionistic looking image.
I used 19 shots for this image and was fun trying something new and relatively easy to post process.
The Beach at Westcombe, been wanting to visit this place for a while now and managed to get there last Sunday, not only that but the weather was kind to me and gave me a rather nice sky and sunset, I arrived late in the day on an incoming tide loaded up to the gunnels again as I was hoping for the odd wildlife shot along the way, 'twas bitterly cold due to the wind chill but whilst your trying to get the shot nothing else seems to matter, once again I took loads of shots with different compositions and exposures but as it happened yet again this was one of the first shots I took and in my mind is probably the best of the bunch, 'twas a fair walk to get there but worth it for the solitude, I do love the Autumn/Winter for Land/Seascape photography, the light and quiet locations are ideal! :)

After years of wanting to visit Cuba I finally got the opportunity to do so earlier this month. With all the complications related to the coronavirus outbreak I was worried that the trip might not happen but thankfully all the planning and preparations weren’t wasted. We ended up having a great visit to the island and learned a lot about its biozones and wildlife.
Possibly the biggest motivation for the trip was to see the world’s smallest bird, the Bee Hummingbird. As you can see, he didn’t disappoint. What a thrill it was to see this tiny bird visiting the flowers in the yard of a welcoming Cuban family. This little fella really tested my skills but thankfully he gave me a few chances to get a photo.
