I want to live in un-interesting times.
The interesting times just don't suit me anymore.
I want to wake up every day
Drink my coffee
Go to work and help kids
Or draw and photograph
Walk through forests
Pet cats and read books
And I don't want to think about suffering
---Any suffering---
I don't want to think about animals or people dying.
Or billionaire capitalists
War and climate change
Diseases once eradicated now
Growing stronger in bodies
Homeless people freezing on streets
People with no body autonomy
Refugees being turned away
Elon Musk buying himself another big toy rocket ship.
I am sick of the interesting times.
I want to look up at the clouds and breathe deeply
Not fearing all of the chemicals in the air or the water I drink
Or the vegetables and fruits I eat
I want to go to art galleries and concerts
Take long bike rides through the woods and
photograph mushrooms.
I want to spend whole nights drinking tea and
Listening to Christina Vantzou's No 2 or
Watching a Kaurismäki film with a favorite feline on my lap or Reading a Bae Suah novel in the bathtub.
I can amuse myself.
Make my own fun.
I don't need the "help" of egomaniac politicians to make it interesting.
So, I wish they would all just leave us artists alone.
Happy New Year.

what are you saying? that you want
eternal life? are your thoughts really
as compelling as all that? certainly
you don't look at us, don't listen to us,
on your skin
stain of sun, dust
of yellow buttercups: i'm talking
to you, you staring through
bars of high grass shaking
your little rattle - o
the soul! the soul! is it enough
only to look inward? contempt
for humanity is one thing, but why
disdain the expansive
field, your gaze rising over the clear heads
of the wild buttercups into what? your poor
idea of heaven: absence
of change. better than earth? how
would you know, who are neither
here nor there, standing in our midst?
poem by Louise Gluck

Yeah, I know the pun’s rough—but so is my sense of self-restraint when I walk in there.
Smart or casual, their menswear slaps. Top tier. One of my go-to spots when I want to look like I actually have my life together.
If you know other places that bring this kind of heat, drop 'em.

This one has a Bonnie & Clyde feel to it, so I tried to make it look like an old photo.

When I begun to process this exposure bracketing, I thought that I knew what I wanted to attain. I was perfectly wrong. Indeed, these RAW files kept a few secret bits of beauty which I was not aware of when I selected them for processing – and they changed the course of the journey I had foreordained.
I was in a gloomy mood, for both personal and general concerns, and the RAWs looked rather duller than the average – taken: they appeared to accurately mirror the state of my soul. At worst, I would have wasted some hours of pointless procesing work before deciding to look for something better. Nobody would have known. However things were to contradict my expectations. I got some good news (a rarity in those tough days) about the health conditions of my brother and my “adopted brother-in-law” (i.e. my brother’s brother-in-law); on the other hand, Darktable – that wonderful software – gifted me with a few unanticipated treasures. My thoughts were growing more and more positive and the processing of this bracketing were proceeding accordingly: a hidden beauty was unfolding before me, my own persisting unawareness of it notwithstanding. At last I found myself with a picture that had apparently self-processed itself*, while I was busy exploring uncharted thoughts that kept emerging along the way
* Admittedly a bizarre phenomenon, which Maurits Cornelius Escher would have loved – think of his Drawing hands.
I would avoid to nag you about this incredibly wonderful location: you can take a look at my album Silent banks, the complete collection of the photos I have taken there; the attached narratives are rich in information about the place, if you are curious enough.
This location is especially renowned for its legendary morning mists, but only a thin layer of milky mist floated above the water that morning. On top of the hill in the distance, beyond the river, lays the sanctuary of the Madonna della Rocca ( = Madonna of the Rock), already brushed by the first light pouring from the Eastern horizon.
I have obtained this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-1.7/0/+1.7 EV] by luminosity masks in the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal exposure" shot), then, as usual, I added some final touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.
I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic as a possible final contribution to the processing. While this technique (which, its imposing name notwithstanding, is pretty simple to implement) often holds interesting results in full daylight landscapes, its effects on a low-light capture (e.g. a sunrise) are utterly unpredictable, so at the end of my workflow I often give it a try to ascertain its possibilities. In this picture I have exploited this technique in a very frugal, yet effective, way – just some touches where needed.
RAW files has been processed with Darktable. Denoising with DFine 2 and the Gimp (denoised and original images blended by lightness).

I wanted to get quite a bit of the trunk in focus, without having the background to be too much in the way.
It's not perfect (I'd like to have more of the trunk in focus), but I think it's a decent compromise.
It was an interesting one to shoot, going very low with the tripod's central column inverted and shooting upside down to manage to have that. Definitely worth it to fiddle around with it, though, it was quite dim and I got a clean file by going for long exposure.
This year’s summer school theme is “There is a New Sheriff in Town.” We try to make our humane animal care education classes fun for these 3rd graders.

I wanted some human interest in this landscape shot, so I asked AI to include a motorcyclist coming towards the camera, and on the left-hand side of the road. Just in case you never thought AI was smart, think again. AI knew I am in Australia, where we drive on the left. No matter how much I tried, it would not give me a motorcycle coming towards the camera on the left side of the road.
I wanted to try some of these last time we were here in January and never got around to it so this time I made sure I did. It was a little windy and cloudy and started to rain shortly after this. It was actually quite dark and I didn't even notice the cat laying there until later when I was looking through the pictures.
Have a great day! It doesn't seem like Friday to me, but I will take it anyway. We came back from holidays just in time for Em to go to school for 2 days and then have another 2 weeks off.
Have a super weekend!
Wanted to share with you these tiny, delicate blossoms, currently blooming in my garden =)
Happy new week my friends, enjoy!

I've been tagged, so I'm planning to scan a baby photo of me tomorrow.
Just wanted to tell you a little more about me :)
My name is Jennie Anna Jeanique. I was born at the 20th of May in 1985.
I live in Alkmaar (the Netherlands) with my love Emiel, in our beautiful pallace we bought a year ago. We've been together since August 2007. I finished an education for audio visual design (moving pictures ;)) in 2007, after that I got accepted for a study to become a Drama therapist, but after a few months I had to quit because I had a mental breakdown. After a year of doing nothing but sleeping and sleeping and feeling really shitty I started with my 365 days project. I always wanted to be a photographer, but because I had some discouragement I quited. My other passion is singing and musical. I played ever since I was a kid and did about 12 musicals. I quited last year because I needed something different and because of personal circumstances. I started taking singing lessons 2 times a month, and I love it! When I was a kid I always wanted to be baby-nurse, after that I wanted to be a musical actress for a long time (still do secretly).
I love animals, I feel really comfortable arround them. My dream is to once have a farm with a Hanging belly pig, pigs are one of my favorite animals. My favorite color is green. My favorite english word is 'Fragile'. On my funeral I want loads of color, balloons. And the songs Bird Gurhl by Antony And The Johnsons and the live version of I remember by Damien Rice. My dreams in life are being happy (with Emiel ofcourse), becoming a mother (of Emiels baby DOH!), and maybe having an exhibition of my photos. My biggest fear is to lose someone I love. Pets included. I can't live without my love and my two cats Aunty Sterre and Mister Koika
and doggy Baby Benthe.
My motto is:
"Who wants to live forever"
And my biggest lesson in life is not to look back too much and to love myself.
Anything else?

The young Mule Deer buck wanted a drink. I watched him disappear into the bushes, so I set up and waited for him to reappear... and he did, next to a beaver dam. They don't always behave as you would expect; this time I guessed right.
The beaver dam is a futile effort, as this river can run deep during spring melt - 15 feet or deeper, flooding its banks. By late summer, though, it's almost a wading pool. He drank his fill and continued to the opposite bank, disappearing into the thicket. The beavers did not note his passing, nor did the Frenchman River. That's what photographers are for.
In about six weeks I'll be out looking for the big bucks, as the annual rut will be starting. Always an exciting time, whether I guess right or not.
