I've cobbled this together for an upcoming competition. The brief is 'Still Life' and it has to tell a story.
I do enjoy a good curry and especially if it's made from scratch. I can happily spend an afternoon in the kitchen making up batches of curry gravy to freeze up then add all manner of spices to when I'm ready. I also make my own Garam Masala. When the aromatic spices are combined it smells heavenly. I'd almost compare the sensation to nuzzling the neck of a bedewed lady! But I'm digressing!!
My image is part of the process from whole spice, the milling process then onto the amalgamation. I have obviously embellished some of the ingredients for the sake of art :)
My own critique tells me the centre panel isn't quite right. The perspective is wrong and it just looks out of place. I have redone it 3 times now and I've had enough of it!
For anyone interested in how I lit this then:
I used my 24" softbox equipped with a Yongnuo YN560IV speedlight 1/8 @ 24mm. This was placed to the rear of the spices, pointing down at a 60° angle. No more than 18" away from the worktop. I placed an A1 piece of white foamboard directly in front of the spices, just out of frame to bounce some light back into the frame. Shot handheld from above whilst balanced on a chair...
As I walked around the Inner Harbour in Baltimore at sunset, I was amazed by the colours and reflections in the water.

Long zoom over the town to see the impressive Aviva Stadium, which has a capacity of approx. 52,000. Built on the site of the old Lansdowne Road stadium, it was completed in 2010, and is home to the Irish national rugby union and football teams. The unusual 'wave' shaped roof was designed so as to avoid blocking light to the adjacent houses. The stadium has also hosted numerous music concerts by Lady Gaga, Rihanna, AC/DC, and Phil Collins amongst others.
