On the southern shore of the Bay o' Skaill, in the West Mainland parish of Sandwick, is the Neolithic village of Skara Brae - one of Orkney's most-visited ancient sites and regarded by many as one of the most remarkable prehistoric monuments in Europe. You look down from the top to the houses below and the beautiful expanse of sand of Skaill beach.
This is the Leanach Cottage on Culloden Battlefield, and is the only building remaining from the time of the famous battle in which the Jacobites were soundly defeated in 1746. It continued to be occupied up until 1912, and is now maintained in its current condition, though visitors are no longer allowed inside. We walked the solemn battlefield which is a mass graveyard, peaceful and quiet on a cloudy day, accompanied by a historian who is steeped in the stories and mythology of Scottish history.

This photo was taken in a hot hazy morning in Meteora (not unlike today's weather in Southern California in the 90s F). While most tourists in Athens headed to its well known islands to escape the heat, I took a five hour train ride in a non-air conditioned train to Kalambaka, just because of the scenery I saw in "For Your Eyes Only". Once got there, Meteora did not disappoint. I was amazed with the sandstone columns standing up against the plain and the monasteries perching up on top and the history behind these monasteries. While it was certainly hot, the haziness of the air added a warm elements to the photos taken in early mornings. The only disappointment I had was that I forgot the tripod shoe plate in my Athens hotel, so I could not take any long exposures as I had planned.

The Brooklyn Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its opening May 24, 1883. At the time, it was billed as "the Eigth Wonder of the World". It opened to horse carriages and pedestrians, a far cry from the walkers, joggers, bicyclists and motorized vehicles of today. In the background is One World Trade Center, a view also not familiar to the early crossings of the time.
An estimated 20 to 30 people died during the 14 year construction. Based on sparse record keeping at that time. most are believed to have died from the bends , having to dive to extreme depths to construct the moorings. The remainder likely died from malaria.
Over 30,000 pedestrians cross the Brooklyn Bridge every single day!

Seeing the juxtaposition of the One World Trade Center and the Bridge, I can not help but recall and feel connected to the thousands and thousands that came across this bridge to escape the smoke and travesty of the twin towers attack on that day on 9/11. In memory of those who lost their lives that day and the families who strive on without their loved ones as a result.

Working on a Macro project with a pyramid of small steel ball bearings. Wound up using all the extension tubes with my macro lens. I was surprised how reflective the ball bearings really are. Not sure whether these look like eyeballs or mini universes.
The Shambles in York. A medieval Street dating back to the 14th Century. Apparently it may have been the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter books, I think you can see why.
Impossible to take shots during the day so I went back late at night. This was taken just before the World became locked down.
I hope all my friends on here and their loved ones are safe and well.
Virtual hugs to you all x
Blue Rocks Nova Scotia. A very out of the way place near Lunenburg. I spend a lot of my time here shooting. You can also rent kayaks, canoes and other water craft at this location.
Ok, you know the saying about how "looks can be deceiving". Rather than a worn down, dilapidated, old estate that this photo seems to portray, it is actually a shot of the lovely, beautifully restored Longue Vue Home...just taken through an old stained mirror hanging on the wall. Liked the distressed, errie vibe that this view provided. The 22,000 square foot, 1939 home is located in New Orielans and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The 8 acre, 15 section garden includes 22 fountains and ponds. Would highly recommend a tour. Guaranteed to look nothing like my photo.
