A spider built this between two shrubs so it is pretty well protected. I'm trying not to disturb it.
This was part of an unsuccessful series exploring the new growth of a honeysuckle curled round and round a prickly wild rose shoot. There were new leaf buds on both the free riding honeysuckle and the bramble two days ago and today the honeysuckle is clearly past the bud stage. None of the shots of the twisted freerider looked great but I liked this shot because of the protective "fur" coat on the new leaves. Fuzziness might well protect against the frosts which could yet return and certainly helps deter aphids and saw-fly larvae but I suspect both will not emerge for some time.
What started off as a joint project with Transnistrian military firm SniB to produce a well-protected 3rd-Generation Main Battle Tank eventually split in two directions. The Chenchnan-made turret was too large for the Transnistrian chassis and accommodatory railroad transportation (particularly, many bridges and tunnels), and the Transnistrian project eventually became the SniB-90 series. The turret sat in a warehouse for nearly a year before a new military ordnance request dug it out. A new, domestic chassis was fitted with great assistance from the Sangheili officers and engineers from the crashed ship "Liturgy of the Sacrament". Whist an absolutely massive vehicle, the extremely durable polymer armor and incredible speeds from the repulsor-based propulsion system gave it an uncharacteristic speed and power. Floating a foot above ground, the Maschith can glide above rough terrain with ease. However, it is not without its issues. A plasma-based fuel system eats fuel for breakfast and is highly volatile, and an interior designed with primarily Sangeili in mind does not suit human ergonomics especially well. However, testing has concluded it is not only an effective warmaking vehicle, but one whose presence on the battlefield should not be taken lightly.
Based off of the Type-26 Wraith, from the Halo franchise. Turret was a Black Eagle/Obj. 640 project I had been making with Ian, but the turret turned out too large for a realistically-scaled chassis. So now there's this.
Also, can this count as Mechtober?
The distribution of Great Horned Owl is extensively through North America except in the highest latitudes, and through much of Central and South America. This bird had found a well-protected nesting site.

In 1987, when the world was still (or already) divided into East and West, the Brandenburg Gate stood on the eastern side of the city, right next to the Berlin Wall. As a West German, you naturally took an adventurous day trip (well-protected as part of a school group with a responsible, very strict teacher) to the eastern part of the city. Our tour also took us to this spot. There was a small fence there back then; one more step and you probably would have been arrested...

Wet and wild down at Second Valley last month as I got soaked through despite wearing waterproofs all round - the camera was well protected which allowed me to remain in the same spot to take a bunch of images without changing composition from retreating!
Marco Island, FL - Nearly every undeveloped lot in Marco Island has a Burrowing Owl "T-Perch" roped off by a 12'x12' boundary so that people keep reasonable distance to stay away from thier burrows. While the species overall is endangered, locally here it is successful and well protected.
You wouldn't think the middle of an ant nest would be a very safe place to live, but if you can convince the ants not to attack you (it pays to be well-versed in ant pheremones), you'll be well-protected from other predators. And in fact, lots of other creatures, even other ant species, live inside ant colonies, sometimes to the detriment of the ants, sometimes not. This is an anteater scarab, a well-armored beetle that lives live inside ant nests - here, with thatching ants (these are Western Thatching Ants, Formica obscuripes, I think). Adult beetles disperse to mate, then return to ant nests to lay eggs and feed (on ant brood). Cremastocheilus sp., I think C. armatus, per an AntWiki entry saying it is associated with F. obscuripes.

On our time driving through the last dollar road, we came across a lot of Aspen groves but since we were there just after peak fall, most of the groves were bare. Finally towards the end of the drive we came across this little patch of gold. The grove was well protected from the wind and was full of leaves both on the trees and the ground. We also have stunning late afternoon light coming in from the south west giving a nice little pop to this classical fall scene.

🇬🇧 1st stop: Termessos is an ancient city whose relatively well-preserved ruins lie 34km north-west of Antalya. It lies at an altitude of 1,050m at the bottom of a gorge that ends in a small plateau wedged between two peaks.
The site of Termessos was inhabited very long ago, as mentioned by Homer in the Iliad. The city seems to have existed long before 1000 BC, when it was part of the Hittite Empire.
Termessos then came under the influence of the Phrygians, Lydians and Persians. With its reputation for fighting spirit and well-protected environment, Termessos was able to resist Alexander the Great's unsuccessful attempt to conquer the city in 334 BC.
After the death of Alexander the Great, Termessos fell under the control of one of his generals, and although it remained very independent, it gradually became Hellenised.

Eurycea arenicola from North Carolina. This species has been long anticipated, having previously been referred to as "Sandhills Eurycea". Staff from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences have long worked to describe this species and it was finally officially published as a new species today. These salamanders primarily inhabit seeps, streamhead pocosins, and blackwater creeks in the sandhills region of the Carolinas. Despite the fact that most of the habitat this species inhabited was converted to agriculture or developed long ago, the species remains well-protected in its limited range between large tracts of public and military lands that are managed with prescribed fire. The pictured animal was found under a coverboard right outside my office this fall. It was a gravid female, as evidenced by the light appearance of her underside, which appears so because of the yolked eggs visible through her opaque skin. The pattern is diminished in comparison to other Two-Lined salamanders, and mature adults appear with a striking reddish-orange coloration.
Congratulations to the many people who worked hard to describe the species, which has been in the works for many decades.

Moulamein, NSW (ABCTV Victorian viewing area)
This small town in the NSW Southern Riverina is at the junction of two rivers, the Edward River and Billabong Creek both of which have recently experienced severe flooding, the worst for many years, perhaps on record.
Flooding on the vast plains abutting the Murray River in the Riverina and northern Victoria is a slow motion affair often taking weeks to arrive from further upstream, rising slowly and falling slowly. They are no less devastating for that inundating many farms and threading to inundate stream side towns most of which are fairly well protected by levees (but not all of them).
The town of Moulamein has fared better than some in that the town itself has not been flooded but all points of access have been cut off to all but local 4WD vehicles. I was lucky enough to be able to get into town last week with my brother who lives on a farm south of the town doing so in his Toyota HiLux.
Featured here is the Old Wharf which sits on the bank of the Edward a short distance below the junction of the Billabong and right next to the town centre. There is a very recent supplementary levee bank sitting on the existing one which I believe was built for the last record flood in 1956. Thankfully for the town, the river level didn't reach the supplementary levee but the flood was still a record.
This Calligrapher fly (Toxomerus marginatus) or Marginated caligrapher fly is in the Hover fly family. Its body is almost the same size as the blossom on this Thread leaf coreopsis (Coreopsis verticillata). They are native to the Ozarks and seem to do well protected under other larger shrubs. The North Carolina Extension says this, " Plants thrive in infertile sandy and rocky soils and tolerate drought, low levels of salt, infertile soil, heat, and humidity." That about sums up the Ozark plateau's environment.

As promised, we are off to explore the rest of Oman. We will see forts, castles, canyons, deserts, wadis, rock formations, beaches and the sea.
Oman has an interesting history of a trading and sea faring country. A country that has tried to keep a peaceful history by protecting its borders even though they changed through out the years.
I always travel by myself, but with a local guide or driver. It is always a risk because one can be given a driver who doesn't really care about his client.
In Oman, I was lucky. The driver who was with me for most of the trip was well educated, well travelled, polite and fun.

The fifth ship to be named “Eastgate” built by Turnbull and Scott 1957
Shell 'K' or 'H' type vessel.

British tanker ‘Eastgate’ under attack at Vung Ro bay june 6 1968.
story as told by W.T. Alexander
Quote
It promised to be an interesting stay in Vung Ro right from the start.
As we where mooring up to the sea buoys a US Navy destroyer at the entrance to the bay started lobbing 5-inch shells over us and the surrounding hills.
This made us look questioningly at the 2 members of the US Army who where taking samples of our JP4 cargo prior to discharging.
“Don’t you worry non son. There is a bit of battle goin on over them thar hills. But thars 10000 Koreans in them hills and Charlies scared shitless of them Koreans”
He the regaled us with stories of Koreans taking Viet Cong heads and sticking them on poles outside their bases. It all sounded very reassuring.
I was 17 years old and training to be an officer in the British Merchant Marine.
This was my first trip to sea and life was exciting. I’d joined the Eastgate just a couple of weeks before in Hong Kong. From there we had sailed to Singapore to load JP4 and other petroleum products for the United States Military in Vietnam.
Vung Ro was a small port south of Qui Nhon.
There where 4 bouys to berth a tanker a short distance from the shore. The tanker discharged through a submarine pipeline attached to a buoy. This pipeline supplied an airbase inland.
A jetty for cargo ships was just north of the base. These berths where occupied by the “American Scientist” and another US merchant vessel.
The day passed quickly with lots of things happening. A cliff face was blown up by the army engineers. A blast which knocked all of us interested spectators back two paces. Then two Hueys landed on the beach and some very nice looking young ladies stepped out and where escorted into the camp.
Our two resident army radio operators informed us of a strip show at the base that evening and if any of the crew where interested they would whistle up a boat. Well amazingly enough most of the crew where interested. So those who could get the time off duty duly went ashore and where royally treated by our American hosts.
Unfortunately I was not one of the chosen few but you can’t win them all.
I came on watch at midnight to find all was quiet.
Andy, my sidekick, informed me that pumping had been stopped due to a suspected hole in the pipeline and the hole was to be investigated the next morning. Sounded good to me.
0130. I was on the poop on a routine fire watch, looking over towards the base ashore.
A flash and a shower of silver sparks form the middle of the base followed immediately by an explosion, followed by another, and another. I got to thinking that this shouldn’t be happening.
I went back midships to see the 2nd Officer who was also of the opinion that this was not usual. The 2/O hit the alarm bells whilst I went to let the Captain know what was happening.
The Chief Officer started to organize the disconnection of the pipeline and attaching it to the buoy ready for use next time. Andy and I where sent off to make sure the ships blackout was complete whilst the Captain was conferring with the two radio operators as to the next move.
Meanwhile a mortar round exploded close to the bow of the “American Scientist”.
Many of the crew jumped overboard whilst others left the ship on the landward side. They ran along the jetty but 2 shells landed at the shore end of the jetty and they turned and ran back to the ship.
When I got back on deck after checking the blackout I found all the engineers on deck with lifejackets.
I asked the 3rd engineer what was going on and he said the Captain had told them to get ready to abandon ship.
What had happened was that the Captain was a bit unsure of what to do and had asked the American radio operators. The operators had lost touch with the shore and where unhappy about sitting on top of 12.000 tons of JP4 with mortar shells flying around the place. So they had advised getting everyone ashore.
Whilst the Captain considered the Chief Engineer, an old gnarled Scotsman with a limp, stormed up to him and told him in no uncertain terms “Captain you’r not abandoning this fucking ship”.
This had the effect of pulling the Captain out of his uncertainty and ordered the Chief to get the engines ready for leaving.
Our problem was that there was no emergency evacuation plan for leaving the port. We had lost touch with all other units and the local patrol boats where busy picking up the men in the water from the “American Scientist”. Ashore there was nu letup in the assault on the base with the sound of the mortar shells being joined by that of small arms fire.
Finally we where ready for off. We had to let our mooring ropes go from the ship as there where no boats available to let them go from the buoys. This would add to the hazards of leaving because of the risk of the ropes fouling the propeller.
We let go one from each buoy, but then came the next problem. The “American Scientist” had let go her moorings and was manoeuvring to leave the bay. It was far too dangerous to have 2 large vessels manoeuvring in such confined waters at night, blacked out, and in the middle of a battle. So we had to wait.
In the mean time helicopter gunships had arrived and where spraying the hillside above the base with gunfire and rockets. This was hugely spectacular and worth waiting to see.
So we where all stand by waiting to complete unmooring as soon as the “American Scientist” was clear. The only crew members who where not at their stations where our Arab firemen who where under the port lifeboat with packed suitcases. They where eventually driven back down the engine room by the 2nd Engineer.
I was up on the bridge as the order was finally given to let go the remaining mooring lines and leave the bay. A manoeuvre which the Captain did brilliantly, his former nerves now seemingly well settled. Our American radio operators still couldn’t get in touch with the base and where more than a little worried sat on the deck on the bridge wing. Our Captains remark to Dave Piggott the helmsman when we finally cleared the bay was “I don’t know about you Piggot but I think I need a new pair of underpants” Bit of a wag at times our Captain.
And so we spent the night a safe distance offshore to see what the morning would bring.
And the following morning, still no radio contact with the base, so we continued our offshore patrol.
Later in the day we received a message from Shell Tankers that we where to proceed to Qui Nhon to complete the discharge. But then the next problem. Most of our mooring ropes where still attached to the bouys in Vung To Bay and the Captain was loatch to go without them.
So we headed back towards the bay to see if we could get them back. As we approached the bay one of the patrol boats dashed out and a chap with a megaphone demanded to know “what the fuck are you doing here with that ship Captain ?”
The Captain explained that we had been told to go to Qui Nhon but could we have our ropes back first please.
Eventually a party of our crew went into the bay on the patrol boat and towed the mooring ropes out and we said goodbye to our radio men who seemed quite relieved to be off.
From there we sailed to Qui Nhon. Three days later we passed Vung Ro on the way back to Singapore. We could see fighter bombers attacking the hills to the north of the bay. And so it went on.
Postscript
About 8 years later I was on a chemical tanker sailing from Newhaven to Elizabethport. The pilot for Long Island Sound turned out to be the Captain of the other merchant vessel that was berthed alongside the “American Scientist” and a regular runner into Vung Ro.
Het told me that the Koreans had been moved from the hills around Vung Ro but no one had thought to inform the American troops of this fact. They thought they where well protected but where not.
The other thing he told me was that the “American Scientist” had a large quantity of napalm on board hence the crew reaction to the near miss.

"Eastgate" sunk 30.3.1973

Total loss and delivered to ship breakers at Kaohsiung 3 months later.
[20:14] Damienn Kiranov was walking on the bridge, seemingly trying to keep a low profile, he stops when he sees Laurick pointing a gun at him. "Heh... guess it was only a matter of time... So how's this gonna go?"
[20:14] Laurick Scarbridge cocked the rifle that he had in his hands, the underside of the barrel being pumped. He leaned forward with a perpetual smile on his lips, aiming down the agog scope as he spoke in a jovial tone, "Well, I was right it seems. By the way, might I ask what you're doing heading into the swamps? Also, a gun? It means stop. That it does. Kwa hoo hoo hoo! Now, why don't you be a nice little android and stay still," the red head said, and tapped at his com, "This is Doctor Scarbridge requesting backup at the big bridge."
[20:21] Damienn Kiranov pulls his chainsword out with his right hand, then brings an SMG into his left. "Oh no... not that simple. I'm not going back. In fact, I kinda expected this. Why I made this nasty little number a little while ago. Seen some crazy android on TV. Thought it would be fun..." he wastes no time to rev his sword and quickly aims his gun at Laurick. "You see... there's one thing you forgot... I'm more durable. You may hit me a few times, but I guarantee, before I go down, either you, or one of your friends goes with me."
[20:21] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) had oocly taken his sweet ass time, amazed at hte lack of lag actualy. BUT Icly he had run, and seeing DK, recognizing hte man as teh one the Doctor wanted to confront, he droped to his knees at the side of the bridge, rifle snapping up to aim at hte mans back in such a way as to ensure any shots that missed, would not fly at Laurick.
[20:24] Laurick Scarbridge tilts his head from one side to the next as he looks at Kiranov rather curiously. He lowered his weapon only slightly as he watched the android rev up the chainsword. The red head blinked momentarily, and then started laughing, "Kwa hoo hoo hoo! Now that is fantastic! This will be most fun, don't you think? Oh my. Oh my, indeed. Well. Even if we go, we go in the name of science! But, you're a failed experiment. Therefore, you cannot win. Eventually we will win, because you are flawed in a way you likely don't understand, but unfortunate for you.. I understand your flaw," he said, raising the rifle up once more, having already cocked the grenade launcher, he almost immediately fired on DK without warning or hestiation after his wordiness.
[20:27] Damienn Kiranov had banked on the grenade being too close to fully activate, so he immediate made a jump toward Laurick. He batted the grenade away with his left gauntlet, sending it off the bridge, as he closed the distance, he would take a swing with his chainsword at Laurick.
[20:29] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) ran through options quickly. With Laurick right htere, grenades were NOT an option, as the waters below were unsafe. He was packing AP rounds, whatever size the HK 416 fired.. so he did hte best he could. Aiming from his crouched position, he pulled the trigger down and held, the automatic rifle spitting a stream of bullets for DKs back. Against an unmoving surface, you could imagine a drilling effect... and had done this to a few humans in his time too. Very messy.
[20:34] Damienn Kiranov took a few rounds in his back. At first, they caused some synthblood to shoot out, but for a very brief time, confirming that he indeed was not human, and much tougher than one. He made a quick assessment, then took another swing at Laurick with his sword, though, the intent was more as a feint, so that he could execute a spin, and put himself to where he would be facing both his opponents.
[20:37] Laurick Scarbridge would have found the first swipe ineluctable had Ciro not fired off his rifle when he'd chosen to. As it was, Laurick was able to use his rifle to move down and take the brunt of the chainsword's cut. Of course, he lost his rifle in this confusion and it was sent flying over the edge of the bridge just like his weapon had been. The Doctor started to move back when Kiranov came forward with another swipe. Laurick raised his left arm up as quickly as he possible could, likely catching the tip of the chainsword cutting against the hard diamond like filiment that had contained the plasma within the chamber. He stumbled back all the same from the attack, and shook his head, soon laughter followed, "Kwa hoo hoo hoo! I should have expected this! We might need better numbers to stop you Ghost. Oh well. We'll see what happens here now won't we? Larger weapons next time - if there is one!"
[20:40] Damienn Kiranov didn't get what he wanted, but he did get one gun out of the way, this left him an opening. Which he used to immediately send a 4 round burst of 4.3 mm bullets from his SMG towards Ciro. As he fired, he edged closer to left end of the bridge, putting his chainsword back on his back, then drawing a shotgun with his right hand.
[20:42] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) was not as well protected as he should have been, his helmet was on his ass, not his head. Oopse. Diving to his side when DK shot, he managed to avoid any serious injury, though one of the bullets grazed his thigh as he landed, a streak of blood but the wound was visibly minor. He attempted to fire, but the dive had resulted in a loss of accurate aim. Now it was more sprayed bullets in that direction. He was more interested now in keeping DK at range, as that shotgun was NOT something he wanted to get close to.
[20:45] Damienn Kiranov took a bullet in his stomach from the spray. It may not have been accurate, but there was enough lead going down to hit something. He seen that he made a mistake with his hand/weapon placement when he aimed another 3-5 round burst from his SMG towards Ciro, and had to cross his shotty under his left arm to fire a blast at Laurick.
[20:47] Laurick Scarbridge blinked as he watched Ghost's movements. The red head reached up and tapped at his bottom lip with his right hand. He tilted his head from side to side, then Kiranov started to shoot at him. He blinked. When Kiranov aimed the weapon at him, the Doctor didn't seem to move. When the buckshot ripped through his upper right shoulder he just glanced down at it. Then he started to laugh, "Kwa hoo hoo hoo! Oh my! Now that was unexpected! It's warm you know, and it feels rather good. Hm, what do I have, what do I have? Oh. Wait. This," he said, reaching down toward his belt to pick off one of the grenades. He looked up at Damienn and tossed the grenade into the air, and then leaned forward grinning as he tilted his head from side to side, "Boom," was all he said as he pulled the pin, and moved to his right side a bit waiting a moment before chucking it at Kiranov.
[20:51] Damienn Kiranov had focused on Ciro, since he was the one with the gun, as a result, he hadn't noticed the grenade until Laurick made his comment. "Oh shit..." Was all he could say as the grenade went off, spraying shrapnel into his left side, and a few pieces into his face.
[20:54] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) with DK momentarily distracted, took his chance, still on his side, he droped his rifle, a frag grenade pulled from each thigh, pulled the pins with his teeth all movie commando, waited a second, and then rolled them at DK. Laying as he was, tossing would not have been accurate enough. but bowling for bots woudl work. (yes 2 frags)
[20:58] Keelyn OHanlon mumbled into her com upon her approach, and unlike the avatar, the character really stayed back at the end of the bridge, crouched with her rifle aimed at the being on the bridge. Seeing shrapnel flying about, she naturally kept her distance and brought the target into her sight, waiting for a reply.
[20:58] Damienn Kiranov had focused on Ciro, so he seen that coming, though, with a 5 meter kill, and 15 meter injury, even with his mad dash back, he still took some shrapnel in his back as he moved away.
[21:00] Laurick Scarbridge reached up and tapped at his com, keeping his gaz steadily on Kiranov. The red head backed up as he tried to strafe move with Ghost's movements. Except, the explosion had stopped him. Laurick stumbled back and grabbed onto the railing behind him, trying not to fall off .. though he did. He gripped onto the edge of the bridge with his mechanical left hand .. which was all that was keeping him up as he clamped, surprisingly his voice was calm, "Open fire when ready, we're attempted to subdue this experiment. It is an escapee from the UAC scientific labs. It is an android. Feel free to use whatever force is necessary! Kwa hoo hoo hoo!"
[21:04] Keelyn OHanlon: Well that was all the fresh off the dropship Sargeant needed to hear. She open fired on the man, not quite realizing the scientist with the funny laugh had just dropped off the side of the bridge. She aimed for arms rather than center mass, seeing weapons in his grasp, sending a few rounds as he started running her way. She debated her options out as well, hoping to take him down before he reached her proximity. To her com, she muttered. "Copy that. Any known weak points?"
[21:05] Damienn Kiranov had to make a new assessment, but one thing was annoying him, "CYBORG, goddamn it! Not android! I have a fucking human brain in my headbox! Damn!" He accented his annoyance by sending both a 3 round burst, and a shotgun blast towards Keelyn, just after he got hit once in the right arm, and once in the chest.
[21:08] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) was able to shift his aim with DKs attention elsewhere, aiming of all odd places, for hte face. time to get personal. the shot would be VERY hard to make, but he was already prone so had that to aid in the aiming. Trigger squeezed as AP rounds sought to make themslves lead boogers in the cyborgs nose.
[21:10] Damienn Kiranov took a bullet in the side of his cranium. This staggered him severely, then caused him to fall down on his ass, his back would slump against the railing. He appeared to have been taken down.
[21:11] Keelyn OHanlon wasn't /that/ fresh off the boat, and pulled back behind the pillar she had used for protection. Shotgun blasts to brick was chipping free some debris, and a second shot grazed her calf, but she pulled it back in fast, bleeding and all. She didn't see the man slump of course, and grabbed a frag off her belt. "FIRE IN THE HOLE!" Pin pulled with her teeth and she lobbed it over his way.
[21:13] Laurick Scarbridge remained hanging on the side of the bridge, since the actions over head would likely take place at a much faster pace than his pulling himself to the bridge would. He grunted slightly as he tugged. But, the only thing really keeping him hanging there was the mechanical arm. He was a marine yes, but he wasn't very physically strong. He could probably have lifted himself up if he had two real hands. But, he didn't. He blinked as he hung there with little to no strain on his back and just shrugged. He'd wait for someone to help him up.
[21:17] Damienn Kiranov tried to shake off the severe case of bullet-to-the-head-syndrome that he had suddenly come down with, only to find a grenade tossed his way. "Well... so much for surprise..." Is all he could mutter to himself as he made a mad scramble to crawl away from the grenade. He didn't get to far before it went off, the blast had sent him flying off the bridge and into the water.
[21:18] Laurick Scarbridge glanced down at the water as Kiranov went *plop* like a fishy.
[21:19] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) from his position, was able to see Lauricks cybernetic hand holding onto teh railing, but he was too far to get close quickly "Grab the Doctor. He should weigh 90 pounds or so." he motioned as he rushed to the edge DK had dived/been thrown over, rifle pointing down.. but the mirk prevented him from seeing into the filthy waters dpeths
[21:20] Keelyn OHanlon blinked momentarily in surprise as he landed in the water, and peeked out from her pier. She heard the LT and ran over towards the scientist. Holstering her weapon, she offered him a hand. "Cmon, get up off there. No reason to commit suicide /now./" She grinned and pulled with her boot braced against one of the bridge supports.
[21:22] Laurick Scarbridge reached up with his right hand and took the hand that was extended to him. He used her bracing to place his right foot on the side of the bridge and proceeded to hop over the railing. He leaned over and brushed himself off as he looked at the new scars on the bridge, and the chunks that would be missing. He let go of Keelyn's hand and trotted to the opposite side of the bridge, leaning over, "Plenty of reasons to kill myself now, hrm? The experiment got away. I wonder if we can perhaps find it again. I would like that very much. Though, today might not be the right day to do so. However, is everyone uninjured," the Doctor said as he turned his head to look back at the two, "I am a Doctor of Science, but I am also a medical Doctor in that respect, hrm?"
[21:24] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) drops his rifle to hang from his chest, and looked down to the bullet grazing. He wasnt even gonna waste a shot of morephine on it. Pulling a field dressing from his pouch, he slid it into the opening in his pants and pressed it to his skin, eyes still scanning hte murk. "No sign of him. Figure he's clear. Unless one of those naval mines blows up"
[21:25] Keelyn OHanlon peered over the edge and shrugged. She looked down to the graze along her calf and shook her head. "Bactine'll do the trick." She seemed as if it wasn't bothering her much at all. "Bandages an' bactine. So he's your experiment, Doc? What do we know about that one? Weak spots? Besides gunshots to the face."
[21:28] Laurick Scarbridge shook his head as he looked down at the water. He grumbled as he wrapped his arms behind his back, showing the first bit of emotion other than joviality for the first time in a while. Frustration. He turned about and grumbled, "The experiment is not mine. It is the GHOST prototype series. I'm rather upset at the moment that I am. I'm going to burn all the synth skin off of that damn thing the first chance that I get! I hate when things don't go as planned! I HATE HATE HATE IT! Grah!" he said, and walked to the opposite side of the bridge, twitching with anger. "Grenades. EMP. Rockets. It doesn't matter. Explosives. You can destroy the cyborg and it will still function as it should."
[21:30] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) Lets move out folks. Aint nothing we can do here except be sitting ducks for anyone bored witha high powered rifle. WHICH is most of midian.
[21:31] Keelyn OHanlon's look skated past the LT's face to see his reaction to the outburst. She wondered if it was normal course of things, and his reaction maybe would give her a clue. She cleared her throat after a moment of silence. "Okay. So. Ghost thingamabobs. Hm." She looked releived at the LT and nodded to him. "Yes sir. Midian?"
[21:34] Ciro Bianchi (Rein) nods "Keep in com contact Doctor." he looked to Keelyn "Mans a genius." he whispers "but fucking nuts. You wanna head through Midian? I was passing through on my way to the bunker to head to ebd."
[21:36] Keelyn OHanlon shrugged her shoulders and quirked a knowing grin. She'd gathered the 'nuts' bit in about five seconds flat. Softly, she replied. "Yes sir. Seems so. It'll be good to have a genuis researching that thing's... weaknesses though." She chimed in quickly after a moment. "Need to catch up so I'm worth something to the unit by tomorrow." She turned on her heel and headed back towards Midian.

Giraffes are the tallest living terrestrial animals and the largest ruminants on the planet. They’re also one of the most iconic animals in Africa!
Here are some interesting facts about them that you may not know:
1. Three decades ago, giraffe species in Africa numbered about 150,000 individuals across their range. Today that figure has dropped by about 40% to around 95,000 animals. The reasons for the decline are habitat loss and degradation, and poaching. Southern African populations appear fairly stable but habitat loss and the threat of inbreeding of smaller populations are real threats.
2. Giraffe are often seen as single animals or in loosely associated groups with frequent splitting and joining up occurring – a process known as fission-fusion.
3. People are often taken by surprise to see a giraffe lying down, although it is common behaviour while resting or sleeping. However, lying down can make a giraffe more susceptible to predation by lions and even a single lioness is capable of catching and killing an adult giraffe in this position.
4. Giraffe will feed on forage that is usually beyond the reach of other herbivores. This reduces the competition and stress on the local wildlife. With a tongue of up to 50cm in length, even branches that are well protected by thorns or spines are not impervious to the attention of these incredible creatures.
5. The ‘horns’ on a giraffe are more correctly known as ossicones – conical protrusions of bone that will grow throughout the life of a bull giraffe.
6. Giraffe have a wonderful (albeit ungainly) way of drinking water. Unfortunately, they are most vulnerable to predation in this position, and many bear the resulting scars of lion attacks on their backs and flanks.
7. The distinctive pattern on every giraffe has been used by researchers to identify individuals within a population. The pattern also provides excellent camouflage amongst the woodland habitat in which they usually occur, despite their size.

It shows a little cave at Waltstätterlake beside a small waterfall.
A place well protected. In principle just accessible by boat, only crazy guys try to attain it with climbing.
From time to time one will see a villain which will hide there for a while.
Or lovers spend a night.
Or just someone searching a calm moment for fishing.
Oh today was a hard one to take the photo of the day. It poured rain all afternoon, when I usually take the pictures. I even took my camera well protected under my coat on my afternoon walk with Kobe, but it was impossible to even consider taking the camera out.
So instead I brought these flowers with me. I love them... They fall from a tree, imagine that! They look like Hydrangeas but are quite different!
With your mercury mouth in the missionary times,
And your eyes like smoke and your prayers like rhymes,
And your silver cross, and your voice like chimes,
Oh, who among them do they think could bury you?
With your pockets well protected at last,
And your streetcar visions which you place on the grass,
And your flesh like silk, and your face like glass,
Who among them do they think could carry you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I put them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
With your sheets like metal and your belt like lace,
And your deck of cards missing the jack and the ace,
And your basement clothes and your hollow face,
Who among them can think he could outguess you?
With your silhouette when the sunlight dims
Into your eyes where the moonlight swims,
And your match-book songs and your gypsy hymns,
Who among them would try to impress you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
The kings of Tyrus with their convict list
Are waiting in line for their geranium kiss,
And you wouldn't know it would happen like this,
But who among them really wants just to kiss you?
With your childhood flames on your midnight rug,
And your Spanish manners and your mother's drugs,
And your cowboy mouth and your curfew plugs,
Who among them do you think could resist you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
Oh, the farmers and the businessmen, they all did decide
To show you the dead angels that they used to hide.
But why did they pick you to sympathize with their side?
Oh, how could they ever mistake you?
They wished you'd accepted the blame for the farm,
But with the sea at your feet and the phony false alarm,
And with the child of a hoodlum wrapped up in your arms,
How could they ever, ever persuade you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,
Or, sad-eyed lady, should I wait?
With your sheet-metal memory of Cannery Row,
And your magazine-husband who one day just had to go,
And your gentleness now, which you just can't help but show,
Who among them do you think would employ you?
Now you stand with your thief, you're on his parole
With your holy medallion which your fingertips fold,
And your saintlike face and your ghostlike soul,
Oh, who among them do you think could destroy you?
Sad-eyed lady of the lowlands,
Where the sad-eyed prophet says that no man comes,
My warehouse eyes, my Arabian drums,
Should I leave them by your gate,

Like falcons, robber flies are aerial predators. While walking, beetles are extremely well protected by their almost impenetrable elytra. But while flying, these hardened forewings must be swung out of the way so that the hind flight wings can unfurl and function properly. This exposes the soft, vulnerable abdomen and if there is a hungry robber fly lurking nearby, the outcome is inevitable!
