Frühling lässt sein blaues Band
wieder flattern durch die Lüfte;
süße, wohlbekannte Düfte
streifen ahnungsvoll das Land.
Veilchen träumen schon,
wollen balde kommen.
Horch, von fern ein leiser Harfenton!
Frühling, ja du bist's!
Dich hab ich vernommen!

Just got back from a vacay to Las Vegas and my sweet hubby Dave, welcomed me home with lots of kisses and a chocolate smoothie. Both so yummy, plus we had a lot of catching up to do! 😉

View on the sea from the city walls in Piran :)
Piran is a town in southwestern Slovenia on the Gulf of Piran on the Adriatic Sea. The town is known for its medieval architecture, with narrow streets and compact houses and it's one of Slovenia's major tourist attractions. Architecture of Piran resembles the Italian Venice, to which it belonged in the past, together with Istria. Most of the buildings, as well as the medieval walls separating the city from the rest of the mainland, also come from this period. In the middle of the town is the Tartini Square, with a monument in memory of Giuseppe Tartini. Nearby are located various important buildings, such as Tartini’s house, first mentioned in 1384 and one of the oldest in town, the Municipal Palace. The area of Piran has been inhabited since ancient times. The name of the town most probably originates from the Greek "pyros", meaning fire, due to ancient lighthouses which were supposed to be on the edge of the marina. From 1283 to 1797, the town became part of the Republic of Venice and then was annexed to the Austrian Empire. In 1954 The town was annexed to Yugoslavia.
City walls - former defensive fortifications erected around the city. The first fortifications were built in the 7th century. Today you can see fortifications from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries. Only the 200-meter-long walls with seven gates have survived. The walls are of uneven height because they were built in different periods - this shows how the architecture of defense has changed. This is one of the best viewpoints on the Old Town and the sea.

Mury miejskie - dawne fortyfikacje obronne wzniesione wokół miasta.

We went to a garden center for Hostas today and were delighted at the number of Monarchs visiting the flowers. We've only seen one or two in our own garden so this was a welcome surprise. Perhaps they are travelers on their way south for the coming winter.
Most of them were pretty skittish and would take flight if you moved anywhere nearby but this one sat still long enough that I was able to capture a handheld image sharp enough to see that long curled proboscis.
The water levels are receding and the first White-headed Stilt has made its return to the wetlands.

Change is not something that we should fear. Rather, it is something that we should welcome. For without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they're meant to be.

In August we left for a few days in the Karkonosze mountains. Here you can see tve view from our hotel room in Karpacz. The mountain at left (behind the tree) it's Śnieżka - the highest peak in Karkonosze :)
Karkonosze or Giant Mountains are a mountain range located in the north of the Czech Republic and the south-west of Poland, part of the Sudetes mountain system. The Czech-Polish border, which divides the historic regions of Bohemia and Silesia, runs along the main ridge. The highest peak, Sněžka (Polish: Śnieżka), is the Czech Republic's highest point with an elevation of 1,603 metres. On both sides of the border, large areas of the mountains are designated national parks (the Krkonoše National Park in the Czech Republic and the Karkonosze National Park in Poland), and these together constitute a cross-border biosphere reserve under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme. In Karkonosze you can find many impressive rock formations. These weathered blocks of granite form high towers which often resemble humans or animals, and reach heights up to 30 metres. The range has a number of major ski resorts, and is a popular destination for tourists engaging in downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking, cycling and other activities.

Karkonosze zajmują powierzchnię ok. 650 km2, z czego do Polski należy 185 km2 czyli 28,46%. Głównym grzbietem oraz Grzbietem Lasockim przebiega granica polsko-czeska. Najwyższym szczytem jest Śnieżka (1603 m n.p.m.) – najwyższy szczyt Czech, Sudetów i Śląska.
The first day of Autumn (Fall) .
Temperatures aren't coming down here in California, but at least the days are getting shorter and the morning fog gives a brief respite from the heat.

My new second-hand Sony Alpha 7RIV with my 1970-1980 Canon FE vintage lens :) But I have to deny that the possibility to zoom in and out during MF shots is faster at 7RII - or I didn't find a better option yet :D - maybe, it was more intended to use MF with 7RII than with 7RIV. But it's one reason more to get my 7RII's sensor changed ;)

This sculpture welcomes visitors to the hamlet of Nipton, California. The town was purchased by a company that grows marijuana. The company plans to make Nipton into a marijuana users resort.
I planted these four daffodil sisters this past autumn and today they were all blooming! Here's what's so neat! As you drive into the yard, they stand as a welcoming committee on the left side of the driveway.
This isn't that great but it's the first time in about 2 months that i've had the inspiration to go outside and a take conceptual image so i'm kinda out of practice ;) Also i stuck with more natural colors as a pose to the usual vintage yellow/blue tones i use more often, so i'm kinda proud of that :)
See the before & after on my Facebook
I shall hold your hand and walk for a long long year to make it meaningful for both you and me....welcome 2025 !!
