Conference titled “The Cuban Visual Imagination in Exile” by Ricardo Pau-Llosa
Ricardo Pau-Llosa was born in Havana and has lived in the U.S. since 1960. A widely published poet, he is also an internationally recognized art critic, curator and lecturer specializing in Modernist and contemporary Latin American art. He has published major essays on Cuban art in exile, and in 2010 the Snite Museum of Art at the University of Notre Dame exhibited Parallel Currents: Highlights of the Ricardo Pau-Llosa Collection of Latin American Art and published a major book-length catalog to accompany it, focusing in Pau-Llosa’s personal and intellectual fusion of poetry, art, and philosophy in his work and at home.
During this conference, Pau-Llosa explored how Cuban artists in exile since 1959 have continued to develop the fundamental ideas which set Cuban Modernism apart from its inception in the mid-1920's.
