These are the ones! 6200 photo submissions to the OC Visual Arts Competition. I entered only a few this year because I traveled less due to moving, and some personal fitness goals. Feeling so privileged that these three made the cut . Can't wait to complete my 2016 photography / travel goals 😃

Esta obra digital de Mário Silva, intitulada "Dia Mundial da Dança", é uma ode visual ao movimento, à energia e à liberdade de expressão.
Através de uma técnica de impasto digital vibrante, o artista consegue a proeza de tornar o ritmo audÃvel através das cores e das texturas.
A pintura explode numa sinfonia de cores e formas que captam a essência da dança contemporânea e urbana.
A Figura Central: No coração da composição, uma jovem bailarina com cabelos castanhos ao vento assume uma pose dinâmica e poderosa.
Trajada com um top branco e calças de ganga azuis, a sua postura exprime entrega total e vitalidade.
O Grupo de Dança: À sua volta, outros bailarinos e bailarinas acompanham o movimento, cada um numa pose única que sugere uma coreografia em grupo, mas mantendo a individualidade.
As suas vestes em tons de laranja, amarelo, rosa e vermelho criam um arco-Ãris de movimento humano.
Técnica e Atmosfera: O uso de pinceladas grossas e ricas (impasto) cria uma sensação de relevo e urgência.
O fundo não é estático; é um turbilhão de luz branca e tons pastéis que parecem emanar dos próprios bailarinos, como se a alegria da dança estivesse a colorir o mundo à sua volta.
Simbolismo: A obra não retrata apenas um estilo de dança, mas a "alma" da dança — a celebração do corpo como instrumento de arte e comunicação.

O Ritmo da Vida e a Poesia do Movimento
O tÃtulo da pintura, "Dia Mundial da Dança", celebra uma linguagem que não conhece fronteiras nem precisa de dicionários.

A Origem de um Dia Universal
InstituÃdo em 1982 pelo Comité Internacional da Dança da UNESCO, o dia 29 de abril foi escolhido para celebrar o nascimento de Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), o grande mestre e criador do ballet moderno.
No entanto, como Mário Silva ilustra na sua tela, a celebração de hoje transcende o ballet clássico para abraçar todas as formas de expressão corporal.
É um dia para recordar que a dança é a arte primordial, aquela que começa no bater do coração e se estende até às pontas dos dedos.

O Significado e a Importância
Dançar é um ato de liberdade.
No mundo frenético em que vivemos, o Dia Mundial da Dança surge como um lembrete da importância de ouvir o nosso próprio ritmo.
A importância deste dia reside na sua capacidade de unir povos e culturas através de um diálogo silencioso, mas profundamente eloquente.
Na obra de Mário Silva, vemos essa união: figuras diversas que, embora em poses diferentes, partilham o mesmo espaço vibrante, a mesma luz e a mesma paixão.
A dança promove a saúde, a saúde mental e, acima de tudo, a comunhão humana.

A Pintura como Coreografia Silenciosa
Mário Silva utiliza o impasto digital como se estivesse a coreografar com o pincel.
Cada marca de cor é um passo, cada textura é um salto.
Ao olharmos para a figura central em calças de ganga e top branco, percebemos que a dança não é algo reservado para palcos distantes; ela acontece na rua, na vida quotidiana, em qualquer lugar onde o espÃrito se sinta livre para se mover.
A frase implÃcita na tela é a de que todos podemos ser bailarinos da nossa própria existência.

Conclusão
Em "Dia Mundial da Dança", Mário Silva oferece-nos mais do que uma imagem; oferece-nos um impulso.
É um convite para que o observador sinta a vibração das cores e se deixe contagiar pela alegria desenfreada do grupo.
Este dia, e esta obra, lembram-nos de que, enquanto houver música e enquanto houver corpo, haverá esperança.

Here's my digital visual, coloured in photoshop from a sketch in my sketch book, formed the basis of my Samurai graff piece, prefer this sketch, but i am NEVER HAPPY!!!!! :)
My first piece of Visual Art - from Grindelwald in Switzerland. The scenery there was just amazing while I had to wait for my train to Interlaken. I had 15minutes to wait so it was clear to take some long exposure shots!

A series of assemblages and mixed media paintings by Chiew Sien Kuan (Singapore) displayed along the Esplanade Tunnel during A Little Love Story in Singapore.
With the weather turned grey and the spring flowers just starting to poke through, it is nice to view again some fall blooming flowers from a lovely front porch garden in Neskowin, Oregon.
Communicating through images today is fast & easy — with your smart phone you can tell the world where you are, what you’re doing & what you’re eating with just a few button presses. But has that cost us something?
Does the sheer amount of mundane images we see make good photos matter less?

I had been 'playing' with this concept for a while in my head. I called it (instead of the Silence of the Lambs) the Silence of the Bird. When I had the final result, it came to me immediately: VISUAL SILENCE.
I don't often 'dive' into the digital 'magical' darkroom that photoshop can be, but for certain projects it is a great creative tool!
Here, in the case of visual silence, what is being absorbed is not sound but gaze.
If silence is the absence of noise, then this visual silence is defined as the gradual absence, the vanishing, of what surrounds it, where we burrow from the visible surface to the invisible core.
Our focus on the image involves a diminution of the optic field:
in this sense, visual silence is like a poem, its power arising from its sheer vulnerability.
The image cannot be penetrated even by the most powerful of gazes because it is already open, in full view... and yet the transparency of the image, one that does not attempt to hide anything, is still capable of mystery.
Visual silence arrests us because it is the interface between two realms of partial knowledge: between he who does not know he is being watched and those who do not know what they are watching.
Some images leave us speechless, we watch them in silent awe.
Ultimately the camera is merely an extension of the human eye, it only sees and cannot wholly know what it is seeing.
Each time I think... that's it, there's only so much you can do with flowers... and yet again and again, I'll see something new.
Being creative is not a choice... it is an urge in me.
