This wall growing plant is verbena and it grows across one wall on Kemp Town enclosures. The yellow flower is a dandelion {weed) but it holds its own in the pretty department across the gardens.

No worries - they’ll chuck their rubbish out the window soon and we can grab that.

We had planned a lovely birthday lunch in a pub/restaurant on Epsom Downs. Originally with the family then, in line with COVID restrictions, reduced to mum, me and our support bubble.

Then, earlier in the week, Surrey went to Tier 3 and the restaurant had to close. Not a problem as the family could come to Brighton and go for a walk on the promenade.

Then last night Surrey went into Tier 4 whilst Brighton remains in Tier 2 so nobody in Tier 4 should drive into Sussex.

I gave up on birthday planning after that......... mum had her hair done and its just the 2 of us enjoying egg and chips<;-{{{

Bill was just offloading the days large catch of whelks. He'd already taken some bags up to the van. I'm always surprised to see how neatly bagged they come off the boat.

I'm very much a colour photographer but I do like this photo in B&W. Maybe it's the subject matter.

You may go out for exercise with one other person

The shops in Chelsea and Belgravia are all dressed up in huge flower displays for the same week as the Chelsea flower show. A number of them have chairs or benches within the displays and they encourage passers by to sit a while and take photos.

I took advantage of these three ladies, looking like naughty girls as they ate their cream cakes, and happy for me to take their photo.

Dark, gnarled branches stretch toward the sky, framing a lone moon in the night. A surreal dance between nature and emptiness—both haunting and poetic in its silent presence.

More money making beach fillers for the summer holidays. Please excuse my cynicism but I find the latest additions to our beaches overwhelming.......... what ever happened to family footy, leapfrog or rounder's on the beach. Slightly surprised at the large ‘Dog Friendly’ flag to the right of the picture.

I was walking into the marina this morning when I saw Little Miss Sunshine coming towards me. I was on a narrow footpath with a garage to my right and a busy roundabout to my left. No time to think about composition, framing or backgrounds!

I smiled and introduced myself by simply saying “I’m Chris - can I take you photo? You will certainly brighten up the day for passers by”. He told me his name was Alex and I asked where he was off to dressed as Little Miss Sunshine. He told me he was going to the gym and thought he’d bring a little positivity into everyone’s day. We can all do with a bit of positivity.

London Architecture series

Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner but I loved it when I saw Tower Bridge open........ twice.

I was walking up a Brighton street to get a photo of a large graffiti mural I'd seen on a wall at the top. Lucky I did as I met Amy - Parking Enforcement Officer as her jacket read. I saw her beautiful blue hair before I saw her and it was only when I started to talk with her that I realised her eyes were the same brilliant blue.

I was originally told I would have the quick 30 minute covid test and if the results were negative I could visit without PPE. Like the promised vaccines, the tests haven’t arrived. So I donned full PPE, had my temperature taken and filled in the required form to see John for 45 minutes. During that time I was going to Face Time our son and grandchildren as I’m the only one allowed to visit. After all that John slept soundly throughout my visit.

I tend to use my photostream as a kind of photo diary but leave most photos like this as private. Then I aim to document what is going on in my world and the wider world where possible. This photo is so relevant to what’s going on in my life and across the world that I decided to make it public.

I usually post images of the abandoned and derelict areas around Black Rock but there are some pretty garden areas and walks. So today I’m posting nature on Black Rock.

A perfect day for the event which clearly boosted the crowds. As a ticketed event I was surprised to see Madeira Drive full to capacity and minis queuing along the coast road.

Built in the 1800's this Temple has been derelict as long a Black Rock has. I've never been able to find out what it was actually built for but as long as I've walked passed its been used by rough sleepers and graffiti artist. When the Rejuvenation Plans were announced 2 years ago it was boarded up for 'future development'. Meantime it makes a nice clean space for murals.

Brighton and Hove seafront has looked like (and smelt like ) a rubbish tip for the last few weeks as our bin men have been on strike. This pile of rubbish is quite ‘small’ compared to the rest of the city but it was the only one I could get to the right angle to take the photo.

This little chap was the only thing on the new boardwalk with me as I walked this morning. I picked him up and moved him to the shrubbery before he got trodden on. He took his little shell life in his hands crossing the boardwalk.

This was the theme of a Bench Wrap Design Competition held in the Marina during April. The design will remain in situ on 26 benches across the marina until the start of next years competition. The competition was won by Abby French a Third Year Illustration student at Brighton University, School of Art and Media.

The beer bottle and spray can chess pieces have turned into a work of art by London Artist Zeus, real name Dean Zeus Coleman. The website says "his latest works represent an innovative fusion of graffiti techniques and typography, fine art and sculpture and reflect both his background on the streets and his formal training at Chelsea College of Art".

Joe Public was a lot more relaxed about exercising then they are in our latest lockdown.

The Inside Out Project is a city-wide celebration of Londoners by artist JR. The promotion materials say ‘the project is transforming the capital’s streets, squares and buildings with spectacular outdoor photographic displays. Capturing the stories of Londoners during the UEFA EURO 2020 the project is creating a series of activations in five locations across London, including Granary Square’.

The Inside Out Project King’s Cross is an exhibition focussed on local people who are active in grassroots sport and use physical activity to improve their wellbeing.

On a trip to Kings Cross, London I took a series of images using parts of the Project as a backdrop. This van/photo booth was set up in Granary Square, Kings Cross. Passers by were invited to go into the ‘studio’ to have their photo taken as part of the project. The subjects then went round to the camera front side of the van where the printed photos came out. Amazing work and what looked to be a superb experience.

As anybody who knows my photography will know I've been photographing the abandoned, derelict Black Rock site for quite a few years and it became my main genre during lockdown.

We were told work was due to begin on 9th January on an access road going across the area so I thought I'd get some time this weekend to capture anything I've missed. Instead the work has begun, the rubbish cleared and the land levelled, ready for work to begin on Monday.

On our recent trip to Kings Cross Yvonne and I asked a passer by to take a photo of us for a change. The colours do make for a great backdrop.

... will serve to begin a new journey when it rises again next morning...

My German friends Erdal and Christian have spent almost a month in NYC, and now they start round two on their sabbatical year for a tour around the world.

As I took my shot (photo ;-) I asked his friend for his name and he said Ethan but he wants to be Tiger Woods. I think after today he'll want to be Rory Mcilroy.

❤️ Biscuits Loves You

i Love you more than biscuits❤️

Lovely igloos on the beach front ready for dining out with a sea and pier view. They'll be pretty when they're decorated for Christmas.

The Brighton Festival launched in May with the Children's Parade, after a two-year break because of covid restrictions. The truly appropriate theme was rebuilding and hope, broken down into three subjects areas, rebuilding nature, homes and communities. The schools and children were invited to create large scale artworks and costumes, that explored ideas for children to learn together through making. They certainly did not disappoint.

When the sensitive Man with heart and soul dared to enter the labyrinth, a fire erupted in the belly of the Minotaur... a rage, the wish to extinguish that which wasn’t the wild masculine nature he had only ever met. Feelings were too dangerous a seed to plant in the heart of men, too risky to be around and let them grow. So the Minotaur turned corners and ran through the maize, sniffing his prey. And when he saw the Man trapped in a dead end, he refused to let him speak. He struck him with the fury of all evils. And then...

... only then, as he held the Man in his arms, and had his kindness snuffed, the Minotaur felt... for the very first time... something in the middle left of his chest. Was it pain? Regret? Was it a dream of lost love? As the lifeless Man laid on his lap, the Minotaur wept. And those silent virgin tears sprouted the first leaves of what may be a soul...

Layers upon layers of life on Madeira Drive.

Check out the guy in the middle of the road with a camera on a long pole. That’s dedication!

In past years the marathon route has started at Madeira Drive but this year it started at Preston Park and St James Road, Kemp Town became part of the route. It's quite a busy shopping area with lots of murals on the shop walls.

I always admire this guy running in a heavy rhinos outfit and raising money for 'Save the Rhino'. I think I manage to take a picture of him every time I go to the marathon.

The Windrush 75 Concert took place last night at the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington. A brilliant event to celebrate the impact of Caribbean life on the British culture. Hosted by Trevor Nelson it featured a multi-generational line up of British talent with Caribbean Heritage. It was quite a night 🎉

Meet Digby, Jade and Paris (at about 7am ;-))

When I walked back towards the marina this morning these youths were sitting, legs dangling, on the waterside of the harbour wall. My iPhone isn’t good at distance but as I watched they got up and walked back onto dry land and I got some closer pics. I waved at them and all three naturally smiled for me to take their photo and I learnt their names.

Available for weddings, birthdays, and bar mitzvahs.

The Isabella Plantation, Richmond Park - Mum loves to feed the ducks. This goose greedily took the bread out of her hand and she turned to see if I saw it. I clicked at the right moment.

(The Snail and the Ugly Pottery)

I've been clearing boxes from my mums garage and in one box I found this peace of what's called 'Ugly Pottery' with, what looked to be, a dead snail. I left it on the side and when I went back the next day the pretty striped snail was sitting on his head.

A trip to Leonardslee Gardens and Lakes today where I actually got quite a few shots of the resident wallabies. These were first introduced by naturalist Sir Edmund Loder in 1889. They are believed to be Bennett's Wallabies from Tasmania, Australia.

Cineworld in Brighton Marina showed its final films last night before closing down for the ‘foreseeable’ future. If only a crystal ball could show us what is ‘foreseeable’. Sadly over half the restaurants in the marina did not reopen after lockdown. Those that have reopened will struggle without the footfall from Cineworld.

We've already had the British Heart Foundation London to Brighton Run ending in Madeira Drive this year. So I was surprised to see there was another one this Sunday. This one was raising money for any charity of the cyclists choice. Another blue skies day for the event.
