I felt for this youngster who got stuck on the zip wire. I needn’t have worried as one of the zip guys was there in an instant and calmly rescued her.

The police directed the March away from the main traffic and down a side street towards the Peace Memorial at Hove. People watched from their windows and recorded the action.

“If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have 4 years left to live".

🐝🐝I first read the quote on a visit to the Chelsea Flower Show many moons ago and I always thought it true. The quote is attributed to Albert Einstein but Michael Pocock, an ecologist with the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology says "there's absolutly no evidence that Einsteen ever said that although it does sound like the sort of thing he might have said". Believe what we will 🐝🐝

a fleeting moment through the window. shadows of the present pass by, blurred and faceless, while the statue stands still, timeless and unmoved. a silent witness to all who come and go. between stone and shadow, past and present merge. a quiet reflection on memory and time.

I couldn't get any closer to this seagull and if I did try it would have flown away. But it had to be recorded! A seagull eating a fish!

A Grey-Bearded Gentleman and a Dapper Boy on Coronation Weekend

Perfect weather - sunny and bright with a cool breeze.

The guy who lives in this tent has been occupying the very corner of the beach for most of the summer. If I walk that way first thing he is often swimming quite far out at sea or he’s just exercising. Quite a lonely lifestyle

Shot this at a zoo back in the day on Kodachrome Slide film - I had to shot it quickly because they are skidish - Florida birds make me feel at home

It's sad to watch the Black Rock site deteriorating to the point that the hoardings, which used to surround the whole site, are being allowed to fall down all around the perimeter. I know that developments and investments are afoot but in the meantime it’s been allowed to deteriorate into an unkempt, rubbish strewn site for various encampments.

I wanted to capture the gaps in the hoardings and the graffiti but while I was taking it one of the travellers came out of a van and politely ask me to give some consideration to their privacy.........

During starlings season photographers line the pier and the beach. My intention was to capture the photographers lined up on the pier with the murmuration in the frame. That was dependent on the starlings flying nearer the beach or taking a wide angle lens. Luckily I managed to capture a few shots.

It wasn't until I looked at this shot that I realised I'd also captured a photographer in the water. That's the black dot just below the photographers,

Brighton and Hove council announced earlier in the football season that whenever the Seagulls were playing in the UEFA league and at the Amex stadium, then all public places would be lit up in blue. They were playing in Rome last night but I managed to capture the pier neon lights in blue.

The Inside Out Project is a city-wide celebration of Londoners by artist JR. The promotion materials say ‘that the project is transforming the capital’s streets, squares and buildings with spectacular outdoor photographic displays. Capturing the stories of Londoners during the UEFA EURO 2020 the project is creating a series of activations in five locations across London, including Granary Square’.

The Inside Out Project King’s Cross is an exhibition focussed on local people who are active in grassroots sport and use physical activity to improve their wellbeing.

On a trip to Kings Cross, London I took a series of images using parts of the Project as a backdrop. Granary Square has a huge exhibition of the portraits which lead the public through the area. Locals and visitors were sitting chatting on the benches and I took the opportunity to capture my own portraits which contrasted or complimented the actual art works. This is Bekka and Rachel.

A visit to the British Wildlife Centre today. My intention was to capture pics of the red squirrels but they never appeared so I made do with a cute little harvest mouse and the nesting herons.

While walking through downtown Brussels, I spotted this quiet moment in the window of a tourist shop. At first, it appeared to be just a mix of knitted souvenirs and fake flowers. But as I shifted position, reflections from the street blended with the shop's interior.

A couple walked by, hand in hand, lit perfectly by the afternoon sun. I took the shot without thinking. What emerged was more than a street photo—it was a blend of reflection and reality.

The window acted like a filter, combining yarn, flowers, cobblestones, and people in one frame. The light gently pulled the eye to the couple, who felt like part of the display.

It's a simple, layered image. For a second, the couple became part of the scene, just passing through, but caught in the right moment.

In their dance, discover the rhythm of life.

A sad story - I've watched these resident marina swans nest and lay eggs for the last few years but the eggs never hatch. I'm on a Flickr group called 'Swans' and they have commented on past posts to say they could be elderly swans and the eggs are not fertile. Sadly the swans sit on the eggs for months and months till someone from the marina comes along, when the swans aren’t watching, and clears the nest away.

I love it when the Brighton Marathon or half marathon happens on a day with perfect weather like today. I take my Canon R and my iPhone, sit on the grass verge and swap between them depending what I'm shooting. The best shots with the Canon are the triple exposures. The iPhone is best for individual runners and small groups, panoramas, videos and cinematic. They're not to everybody's taste but I feel they capture the heart of the marathon.

I was on the bus into town when I first saw Stacey. I couldn’t really miss her as she stood out amidst the blacks and greys in the street. I thought how lovely it would be to photograph her but decided against getting off the bus. Then when I was walking home through Kemp Town there she was sitting on a bench outside the church. I went over to talk with her and found her personality as vibrant as her style.

When I first walked past these gardeners they had already filled a bag with leaves, branches and weeds and were debating how to deal with the rest. When I walked back it was completely cleared. They did a good job.

What looks to be a half moon has been going in out of the clouds all evening. I looked up the moons eight phases and it didn’t have a half moon. Anyway it was difficult to capture a decent shot even with my Canon and a 600 lens. So I decided on a shot on my iPhone of the marina with the sun lighting the clouds on the horizon.

While shepherds washed their socks by night 🎶

in the hush between light and shadow, a photographer lifts her camera — not in reflex, but in reckoning. her gaze arcs toward the viewfinder, already composing something just beyond the frame. caught mid-thought, mid-breath, she is both subject and seer. this image holds stillness like a held breath.

above the vast expanse of the mountains, an umbrella perches like a guardian on the edge, sheltering nothing but space and light. the weathered wooden fence stretches across the frame, guiding the eye toward the distant peaks, whispering of boundaries against an endless sky. the starkness of black and white enhances every shadow, every line, and every contrast between human design and the untamed natural world. this image, captured in a remote mountain setting, is a quiet meditation on solitude, balance, and the delicate intersection of man-made and natural beauty.

I don't think it will be very long before this view with the graffiti backdrop is gone forever. I'm told the new sea wall still has gaps as there's a huge amount of cabling and piping to be rerouted to allow the site to be prepared for development. So the wall will be left unfinished while a link road is put in with utilities to the marina. Then when that work is finished the old connections will be removed and the sea wall will be finished.

The most common type of mold found on strawberries is caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea. This fungus infects the strawberry, causing it to develop grey and fluffy mold on the surface. Yuk! In this punnet on just the one strawberry.

More fairytales from the lowcountry. My friend, Greg, graciously posed for me here.

I did have to check that it was actually a car run as there were quite a few penny farthing bicycles coming through the finishing line. I checked and the title is correct. I checked the front of the bikes and they did all have entry numbers. Amazing to think they'd travelled 60 miles plus from London's Hyde Park to Brighton's Madeira Drive.

I've loved kingfishers since I was in my primary school but never ever managed to see one sitting still long enough so I could photograph it. Until today when I was happily taking a shot of one sitting on a fence and his friend came and joined him.

I googled how to tell the difference between a male and female kingfisher and it is by the beak colour which can be clearly seen in the photo. The males beak is all black, the female has a pinky orange tinge to the lower part of the beak. It said you can remember it by thinking that the lady wears lipstick!

I actually took my Canon camera with me and my 100-600 lens but the picture is still a bit soft but it is two kingfishers ;-))

The city's always more than one story at once.
