in the quiet margin of a highway, a pair of pink shoes rests against the weight of a wide sky. there is no movement, no footsteps, no sound — only the memory of presence and the strange stillness that remains. an image that asks more than it answers.

the shoes were set into the existing photo with photoshop and adobe firefly 3.

I often see a title before I frame a picture. I saw this guy walking along the beach and immediately sung the Chris de Burgh song in my head, then took the frame ;-)))

I used to walk along this coastal path throughout lockdown and I always took photos of the lovely chalk messages like 'Thank you NHS' 'Thank you delivery drivers' 'Stay Safe' and so many more. Since coming out of lockdown the messages are rarely positive and often abusive. But this morning the messages were lovely once again and there was a pretty backdrop to make them stand out.

amidst the towering structures of the oculus in new york city, a lone figure stands under an umbrella, seeking refuge from the rain. the bold, diagonal lines of the architecture contrast sharply with the delicate silhouette, creating a visual dialogue between human vulnerability and the strength of steel and concrete. the wet surfaces glisten, reflecting the city's constant motion, while the dark shadows evoke a sense of mystery and solitude. it is a moment caught in the balance between exposure and shelter, a fleeting pause in the rush of urban life.

captured just outside the pull and bear shop near the mercat d’olivar in palma de mallorca, this photograph frames a serene moment of a young woman absorbed in her phone. the play of light and shadow accentuates her calm demeanor, creating a striking contrast that highlights both her elegance and the urban environment. the monochrome palette adds a timeless quality to the image, emphasizing the quiet introspection amidst the hustle and bustle of the city. this candid shot encapsulates a fleeting moment of stillness, beautifully juxtaposed against the backdrop of everyday life.

Today I went to the Hockney Experience at Lightroom, 8 minutes walk from Kings Cross/St Pancras in London. The photos I’ve taken include the audience lying and sitting around absorbed in the experience. It was spectacular.

I can only describe it using the websites words:

Holoport, the audio company, radically transforms how audiences engage with sound.

Disguise is a platform which enables audiences to experience spectacular visual experiences.

After my window/ sleet photo (1) and before my sunset photo (3) a battle took place between the black clouds, the white clouds and an orange sunset. The sunset won.

.......... We'll all be back together soon.

Brighton Palace Pier closed to the public on 22nd March 2020 for only the second time in 120 years. The last time was for WW11. The closure was in advance of the Prime Minister historic announcement that the country was in a state of emergency and was to go into lockdown from midnight on the 23rd.

Practicing panorama’s on my iPhone was quite challenging given I was on top of a windy cliff top. But I liked the resulting wavy image.

My one-a-day exercise is usually walking the flat undercliff path from Brighton Marina to Rottingdean and back, about 4 miles. Today I diverted off the undercliff cliff path at Rottingdean to walk back along the top of the cliffs. I seem to be going up and down slopes all the way but it was very beautiful.

captured in the quiet coastal district of portixol, this striking portrait draws you into an intimate moment of contemplation. the close-up of the man’s face, with his intense gaze and subtle expression, reveals a moment of deep reflection as he takes a break from his meal. the natural light falling on his skin accentuates the texture and detail, adding depth to his quiet demeanor. set against the blurred backdrop of portixol’s calm atmosphere, this image portrays both the beauty of solitude and the power of stillness in an otherwise bustling world.

Photographed in 1999 inside a psychiatric hospital in Prague 🏥,

this black-and-white image ⚫⚪ captures the silent geometry of an empty corridor 🚪.

Taken with a Semflex 6x6 📷 on Ilford FP4 (120 film) and developed in Ilford ID-11 (1+1), the photograph reveals a space of both order and disquiet.

The open gate 🔓 suggests passage and confinement at once, while the tiled glass wall becomes a vanishing point for memory.

A combination of being in Tier 4 and torrential rain meant I was virtually the only mad fool enjoying walking on the beach in the rain. Then I came to the beach huts and this happy foursome enjoying the space and happy to have their photo taken.

every morning, the heavy doors creak open, and the lonja awakens. the first step, the first touch of sunlight, the unnoticed ritual of transition. before visitors arrive, before history repeats itself, a quiet moment between night and day.

Troubled times in our world so I wish my Flickr friends the best Christmas break they can have within their own personal circumstances.

And a happy, healthy and financially stable 2023.

I took mum to visit one of our relatives today. He didn't look too pleased to see us but I think we might have interrupted his lunch.

I was out looking at and taking photos of the road changes in Madeira Drive and thought the Yellow Wave Beach looked a lot more attractive.

NB: New green cycle lane with red crossing. Now closed due to wet weather.

they looked at each other like they'd done this a thousand times. there was no need for words, or commands, or reasons. in málaga, under the crumble of time, two creatures leaned into each other's silence.

More trouble at the birds Peace Memorial Pizza Party.

I was just walking past the Peace Memorial when a guy came along and threw a few large pizza bases onto the ground. It was every seagull, pigeon and starling for themselves.

I’m not usually a fan of this type of candid photo but these two girls were a shot waiting to be taken and were aware I was taking it. They were spray tanning on the main public road/exit as I came out of Brighton station.

Brighton beach with a backdrop of the iconic West Pier and a photographic exhibition from Brighton camera club.

I was talking to Alice, one of the contractors working on Black Rock beach, about the end of the new sea defence wall. The wall ends as seen in the photo but there is big gap between the new wall and the original harbour wall. Alice explained that there is a Southern Water down pipe coming out of the harbour wall so they are having to build a different type of wall to accommodate it. This explained why there have been so many diggers working at that end the last week.

A record shot - The marina Asda petrol station had the usual fuel delivery first thing this morning. Within an hour the marina was gridlocked. The marina security guards together with staff from the petrol station and the Asda store were doing a sterling job managing the situation. By lunch time, despite still having plenty of petrol it had shut for the day. A Facebook message said:

"Would like to advise everyone that ASDA BRIGHTON MARINA is now closed until all this nonsense is over and done with. We staff have suffered abuse and tantrums when all we have tried to do is serve you".

Another post said police had closed the garage because the area was gridlocked. This is getting beyond ridiculous ;-((

the road is closed. fresh asphalt, the scent of bitumen in the air. a yellow band stretches across the scene like a crime scene, but there’s no crime. just the slow rhythm of city maintenance. a man walks along the barrier, his shadow merging with the lines of the street. he doesn't stop. neither does life.

The signs on the entry to the beach read:

There is no lifeguard service today.

Wind and tidal currents create hazardous sea conditions and powerful waves.

And hundreds of braved the waves.

the cyclist breaks free from gravity for a heartbeat, casting a shadow that seems more grounded than he is. between concrete arcs and vertical rhythm, there's a flash of levity â motion etched into light, surrounded by stillness that never blinks.

Black Rock beach was full of these communities this morning. Wonderful to see as many as 30 together in one clump. I'd like to know why they all come together like this.

Phase-Eight was one of my favourite shops in East Street, Brighton. A few months ago I posted a photo of the shops in East Street that had closed down as a result of the pandemic and were to let. It's good for the economy to see the shops being let again but I'm disappointed to see the types of businesses that are replacing them. Sadly a sign of the times.

..... Heigh Ho! says Rowley.

Whether his mother would let him, or no.

With a rowley, powley, gammon and spinach.

Heigh Ho! says Anthony Rowley.

I thought of this poem as I watched all the frogs in the pond. It must go back many, many years but has never made sense.

Built in the 1840’s, Kemp Street 2021 is an attractive row of small brightly coloured terraced houses, some currently selling for £500k plus. But walking down the street its industrial past can be seen.

Number 34 has an original sign still visible, which reveals that in a former life it was used as a warehouse or butchers for Argentinean frozen meat. 100 years ago it was the Camden Arms.

Next door at number 35 a sign for the Evening News is clearly visible. In 1869 it was in use as a corn and coal merchant.

Number 29, on the opposite side was another pub, the Blue Anchor.

in the heart of santa catalina, a pedestrian sign lies abandoned against a weathered wall. the stark black and white of the image amplifies the sign's loneliness, hinting at the countless stories that pass by unnoticed in this vibrant district. the tilted sign, meant to guide and protect, now rests in disarray, reflecting the fragility of order in urban life. this scene, captured in a moment of quiet neglect, speaks volumes about the unnoticed and overlooked elements that still play a role in the rhythm of the city.
