Live concert of an Indian rock band at BOBMC Rider Mania 2019 near Udaipur, Rajasthan.

BOBMC RM this year was as good as any before, if not better. This congregation of mostly unpretentious, affable and passionate motorcycling enthusiasts always radiates positive energy. Every little endeavour that brings positive balance to the universe, I believe, should be celebrated.

Slender-billed Vulture flying over Corbett National Park.

Earlier considered part of the Indian Vulture species, this vulture is found mostly along the foothills of the Himalayas. Like most other vulture species in India, this is also critically endangered as its population continues to collapse. This is largely attributed to indiscriminate use of diclofenac in livestock.

Immature black-headed gull in the lake at Harike Wildlife Sanctuary, Punjab. A number of Common Coots can be seen swimming around the gull.

As with most birds from the white-headed gull family, this was again a difficult identification. The young black-headed gull is very similar to a wintering adult. The likely identification - with the help of other birding enthusiasts - of it being an immature juvenile was based on the lack of shaded patches around the head, and the presence of shaded streaks on the wings.

A pair of Himalayan Bulbul birds near The Mirage - Andretta in Himachal.

These birds were clicked in the forest that touches the backwall of The Mirage.

Brown-headed Gull in non-breeding plumage feeding in the lake at Harike Wildlife Sanctuary, Punjab.

Brown-headed gulls are rarer than the similar black-headed gulls, especially in this region, as they are strongly migratory. They breed in high altitude around central Asia and Tibet, and migrate to the Indian-Subcontinent for wintering where they are mostly seen in coastal areas.

Flock of Tufted Ducks flying over the lake in Harike Wildlife Sanctuary, Punjab.

Eurasian Coots and other waterbirds can be seen in the lake below the flying ducks. Hyacinth and island with tall grass can be seen in the background. The wetland has a number of islands within the lake.

A Freshwater Crab, moments after fighting off an attack from a Black Kite bird in the almost dried up bed of Sirhind Canal near Ludhiana, Punjab.

This shot is in continuation of the previous image, part of the same burst. As the crab lay exposed after surviving the swoop, it would likely only be a matter of time before it got picked by one of the numerous raptors hovering overhead.

Till I had a good look at this capture, I wasn't even aware that crabs thrive in our canal systems. Most freshwater crab species are actually threatened as they have developed in isolated water systems, which inherently limits their propagation.

Common Green Magpie bird near Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand.

With its vibrant neon colours, this is a spectacular bird to spot in the dense green jungles of lower eastern Himalayas where it likes to dwell.
