See www.rediscov.com/sackner.htm for the index to a pioneer Sackner collection of concrete & visual poetry. Captured in the remote stillness of Pyeongchang's 700 Village, so named in preparation for the global gaze of the Winter Olympics, this self-portrait reflects a deeper truth: how names, like identities, are sometimes reshaped to meet the expectations of a world that's watching.
Just as the village rebranded itself for the spotlight, I too have carried different names, faces, and versions of self to fit the moment, the place, the audience. Growing up in America, I often felt the pull to adapt, masking my roots in favor of readability. But here, invited back to the land of my ancestors for the 40-day international artist residency Deep in the Mountains, I stood unmasked. Still. Listening.
This portrait holds that quiet return, where the land spoke not to who I had to become, but to who I've always been. It's a moment suspended between performance and presence, a visual meditation on how we rename ourselves to survive, and how we un-name to come home.
I am lucky enough to live just down the road from a Clydesdale farm. I applied a 7 pixel gaussian blur from the fence up and was amazed at the difference the slight blur made. BTW, Flash, the colt is only about 7 months old. Pablo is his companion animal....

I stared into that silvered glass and saw a stranger’s carcass, a hollowed-out vessel where the fires of my own history have frozen into a numb, antiseptic indifference.
I am not looking for a particular type of justice....i am looking into how the justice will be defined globally...i am not into the Socrates-Plato, not in John Stuart Mill's liberalism and utilitarianism, but as an evolving conduct.

The poem has one central theme: the Holocaust trains during WWII, in contrast to the current human migrations in Europe.
This poem is based on 'Different Trains', a three-movement piece for string quartet and tape written by Steve Reich in 1988.
